Part 2 of 2.With just one hour notice Kyle, Alyssa, and the dogs set out from North Carolina to Colorado. Efficiency and charging data included with every stop. Part 1 • Pt. 1/2 | Model 3 | Ma...
Glad your Chademo worked. When I bought one from my Tesla store in June 2019 for a 6,100 mile trip... they did not tell me it would not work until an upgrade was released a couple months later. Even told them I was taking a long trip. And yes.... I did get left high and dry because of it. But called around and an RV park let me charge (free!) so I could make it to the next supercharger.
Seems like a fair number of the times in these videos you'd actually save time by driving slower. You might shave a few minutes by going 10-20 over the limit, but lose all that time gained and then some by having to pull over and charge when you could have probably bypassed it. Obviously the further spaced apart stations where the difference would be 25% remaining for going speed limit vs 10% remaining by speeding doesn't matter, but it feels like the closer spaced ones where you stop at almost every one because you'll be 5% short if you skip a station seems like a waste of time. I know you do some of this for the video and to scope out stations, but still. Regardless, these videos are pretty interesting and I hope to be running electric after my truck lease is up next year.
If you’re ever traveling through Beckley, WV on the tollway during daylight hours, you should stop at Tamarack at exit 45. It’s a really well done exhibition center for West Virginia arts and crafts, including furniture, small musical instruments, and graphic art. There is also a small restaurant there (a little pricey, but worth the splurge). I recommend the chicken pot pie!
love your videos and i have loads of respect for your driving skills coming from a former autocrosser myself but at 42 sec your at 138 going into what looks like an off camber 45 degree right turn in less than 200 feet ahead...would like to see you recreate that at your track to see what its like inside your model 3.....good luck and be safe.
Probably should have done the Chester's Chicken they are at a lot of the travel centers. Usually much better than McDonald's. They're potato wedges are usually quite good if they're fresh. However if the chicken or potatoes are not fresh it's not that great. Some of the pilot truck stops have cinnabons inside where they make them fresh.
I was just at these superchargers a few weeks back, were from Iowa and took my S out to Salt Lake City for vacation. Traded in my S last week and now have a 3 with the same interior/exterior spec as yours now, mine is a LR awd though and not a performance. Grand Island was my least favorite stop from all of the charges.
17:26 I'm from KC, the Missouri River floods ALL the time. Businesses and planning departments plan and build for it. The morning after every major storm, certain highway ramps are blocked by police cars til the water recedes.
Ewsoccerball .Ewsoccerball Sorry to hear that. Thanks for the heads up. I hope Tesla makes the repairs quickly. Seems like a highly used charger where I-70 and I-75 cross
The frunk being open, i had that issue on my Model Y, when they serviced HVAC they punched the wires when re-assembling the car. Wires had to be replaced. Otherwise that would pop up a few times a day while driving. But looks like for you its just something pressing release button.
44:50 Hazard lights on below 40mph is a recognized safety signal (so that someone still driving 70mph+ can see you and avoid a crash - it's called "conspiquity")
@@OutofSpecMotoring You were going 35mph and caught up with them. The fact that the flashing lights caught your attention is the import part. You then had to determine what they were doing. Seeing them was the most important part. This is not opinion - this is the law. I understand your point, but your recommendation is literally illegal for the situation you showed. That said, I do really enjoy your videos🙂
Your comment about Indianapolis... Metro population is 2.4 million, and the 465 loop around the city is 53 miles. I believe It's the largest landlocked city in the United States.
AW, the pups are so cute at 4:02 snuggled up together. I didn't know the dual motor cars can heat up the battery faster 7:31 - that's great to know. I'm so happy I got a dual motor. I've never regretted that decision. Alyssa clicking the frunk button 18:25 had be dying laughing. Hey can you share how you find dog friendly hotels? Is there an app or do you just check with the hotels website or something? Love Alyssa's attitude - let's drive all night and get home at 4:30am - let's do it! haha.
Did you add any sound proofing to your car or doors? If not, other that road patch any noticeable wind noise/issues? Also are those the perf 20's or did you switch to the 19's? Any reason you didn't use more efficient wheels for the trip?
Having a copilot on trips is absolutely necessary to do all the hotel charging and other research needed. Hopefully FSD improves or the nav can include hotels
The video is entertaining, on my 1900 ft elevation gain, 60 mi one way commute, in my 2015 Nissan LEAF. First world problems, bro. I have to drive 15 miles per hour under the speed limit at 23° f just to make it there and once I get there there is no charging so I have to go off site and then walk back to work. On top of that, the three charging stations closest to my job that are the fastest level of charge my car will even accept, level two charging, are highly contested and listed on chargepoint as free to the public however the business owners think the opposite in reality so they block the charges in any and all ways they can. Every day is literally a fight to see if I can make it home. Enjoy your Tesla. P.S. It's still my favorite car I have ever owned and feels great not polluting for selfish reasons. I charge the car at home pretty much exclusively off of solar power so my emissions are pretty low. Ha, I don't think my car even goes 90 miles per hour. I think it's topped out at 85 or something like that.
A protective barrier to the front of the cabin would be good for save road trips with the dogs. Any solution available? Nice roadtrip and just subscribed 👍
I've driven the entire length of I-80 in both directions, Nebraska is by far the worst part, especially that time of year, it's nothing but dust and wind.
+Out of Spec Motoring Given your supercharging profile on this spur-of-the-moment road trip, I think you would have done perfectly well to have set your charge limit as low as 50% so that the car would have stopped charging right at that point that you wanted to stop before the charging speed starts to slow down as the battery fills up beyond 50%. However, I have to give you mad props for keeping your charge limit set to 100%. Also, at the 10:20 timestamp, I have to give you my kudos for charging up to 98%, which is even better than charging to 94%. However, I would not have even remotely considered stopping the charge until the battery reaches full power.
22:24 I imagine Telsa records session data and has an algorithm to spot errors and alert a tech team. You seem to hit up a lot of chargers and obviously understand them better than the average person. I wonder if they would consider taking feedback from you at a "level 2" category, where you let them know of issues and they sort of escalate a response. 24:40 I'd be tempted to nearly block them in if there wasn't a slot available. Leave enough room they can get out with effort, but close enough to show them they were rude -and disobeyed clear rules; The cord should be long enough, lol.
I went for the 11 Pro Max in Green... Seems to be pretty solid. Loving the updated camera, especially the wide angle. It will be nice where I won't have to carry around the big camera all the time, the iPhone is actually pretty amazing!
I wish that Tesla would give us the option of turning on a rear fog lamp, although I do see them used incorrectly in the USA in some of the cars that have them. I would love to have the amber rear turn signals, because they are so much more visible.
A few observations. Why don't ICE vehicles have "range anxiety?" Answer: Gas stations are everywhere! Why do EVs have "range anxiety?" Answer: Not enough chargers everywhere . . . . . Yet! This will change over time. You would get better range if you drive "slightly" above the speed limit instead of "well over" the speed limit but you already know that. EVs are the future.
I really feel like hotels are better suited for lvl 2 chargers. Plug in overnight and leave with the desired charge. No get up go plug the car in and then go shower and eat or no charging before bed. Not saying there should be no superchargers, but a more balanced mixed of DC and AC would be better for travelers. I would much prefer to plug in, go to bed, and wake up with a full battery versus leaving the car on the super charger overnight.
These companies know. It’s hard for them to find hosts for these chargers and hotels are usually a safe place in some rural areas. Most new installs aren’t at hotels anymore though
thing i didn't like is it's like taking away the fun from a road trip, so instead of it being about places, fun and memories, its all about the chargers and the planing ..
See I would have to disagree, stopping at superchargers kinda forces you to explore the area. Where as a gas station is conveniently right off the hwy, this allows you fill up and jump back on the hwy as quick as possible. Thus you don't get to see the potentially cool mom and pop shops
Instead of going thru Chillicothe you could have supercharged in Columbus at the grove city supercharger then took route 33 south to route 77 south plenty dc chargers and supercharger around Columbus Ohio southern oh not good yet
Out of Spec Motoring I don’t feel comfortable driving more than 75 in my leaf or Prius . Lots of people in ohio drive 80 to 90 on the interstate. Model 3 probably feels easier with auto pilot at 80. When I go 70 speed limit you feel like you are standing still because everyone passes me. I can’t afford 125 ticket and insurance going up 300 a half.
@@OutofSpecMotoring I mean they could have attached restaurants ... Or have a food court .. and if a stay was available there people could even take short naps and leave .. like the hourly pod hotels in Japan ..
