I wish my reflexes hadn't dulled so much with getting older. I played a ton of Quake, Unreal and CS in the very early 2000's, after that I got interested in other games... And these days, every time I go back to a "real" FPS, it's like a whale trying to swim on land. My instincts are there - I do the flick shots, I do the jumps and the bounces and picking up items on the fly while shooting, and I do it without thinking, it's engraved into my mind..... EXCEPT, I'm always just a little too slow, or just a little off-aim. Just a little! The instincts are there, the actual precision to do anything with them are not x) As an older player (emphasis on *player*, not "pro" or hardcore fan), Quake Champs feels really fun, especially if they incorporate some of the common feedback. I hope it succeeds and sticks around. Who would have thunk it? A real Quake game. Literally, actually, a good Quake, in 2017. If you had told me this a few months ago I would have laughed in your face and said that's a great joke. Joke's on me.

I use 3 footswitches. One for +back, one for crouch, and one to cycle through a series of chat messages. "Missed me", "Missed me again", "Do you need me to stand still" etc. The +back switch was for counterstrike and it means I can instantly cancel forward motion, cus if you just coast to a halt, you won't be accurate until you fully stop. But I guess it would work in Quake. I don't think i ever used +back in Quake anyways. :) Having crouch on a footswitchalso gives more options to select weapons and nades with your pinky, so your main movement keys always have a finger on them. The cycling chat binds...well that's just fun :D It tilts people pretty hard if you mock them as they are trying to kill you. Especially if you turn your back on them. It's not disrespectful; it's getting in their head and creating an opening you can use to unravel their fragile little minds. If I end up trying QC, I'll prolly need to find a use for that middle pedal

Hello! Thanks for the vid. Not sure if someone has told you this already, but qc shows you your horizontal fov on a 16:9 screen, while quake live shows you it on a 4:3 screen. So with that, if you want the equivalent setting of 110 in qc, you should use 126 in game. Hope this helps!

Finally got invited into the game last night and had a blast, and your videos were really helpful to get me started!

Been playing Quake since 2004/5 (aged 5-6), really nice to see that Quake is still alive and kicking. Got my beta code yesterday and I'm hooked! Very refreshing after Quake Live lost it's touch (at least in my opinnion). I remember watching some of your videos way back when Quake Live first came out, but never got around to subscribing to you. I've since fixed that. ;) Hope to see more great content from you buddy.

Enhance pointer precision in Windows mouse settings should also be disabled, as well as any acceleration in game. Accel can be bad for consistency with aiming, though some prefer it

The FOVs in this game, at least for me, are 16:9 ratio horizontal FOVs. What we're used to is 4:3 ratio horizontal FOVs. So FOV 90 in QuakeLive or most other games = FOV 106 in Quake Champions. I play at 95 in QL so that's 112 in QC. Find a 4:3 to 16:9 conversion tool and you'll get your FOV equivalents. When it comes to sensitivity, divide your QL sens by 5 and you'll get the approximate equivalent, though better still, measure your 360 and adjust from there. The game needs a lot more customization options than it has. The lack of a proper graphics menu, real mouse configuration options, or a command console in a Quake game is inexcusable, but hopefully they'll add it at some point. I'm enjoying the game, but the lack of customization options and the speed caps on characters piss me off. Let me use the skills I have instead of restricting them. Hopefully they implement a classic mode where there are no speed caps or characters.

Just got my Beta key yesterday and doing pretty well with roughly the same sensitivity settings I use for CSGO, maybe adding a little. Main things are you need to be able to re-adjust fast with your flicks and track easily with wrist movement.

I still use right mouse button to go forward too. I like how pressing the button keeps the mouse balanced and controlled

I noticed you play Overwatch on some of your mouse reviews and was wondering what your controls are in that game? Are they just default OW controls or do you change it around to make it similar to your Quake controls?

FINALLY someone else who uses RMB +Forward. And who else than a fellow Quake player. My clanmates have all been giving me shit for a long time over the RMB movement bind i use. :)

I had 1st razer boomslang ,it got to old I think 1999 now I got razer naga 2012 I still use arrow keys lol and going on 50yrs old and Carpenter I got my fingers cut off that why I use the 12 buttons on the mouse button's love your videos information and I'm old school q2 days .lots of respect man.

I agree on the fov. I have it set at 115- might go to 120 in the future. No more than that, though.

Quake Live uses a 4:3 aspect ratio as a base to set your FOV. So if you were to play with that aspect ratio, the number you set in the options menu would translate to the exact degrees in your FOV. Playing on 16:9 however will "add more degrees" to the sides of your screen to fill in the space (where you'd have black bars when using 4:3). This results in an actual FOV of about 125 degrees. But Quake Champions uses a 16:9 aspect ratio as a base for your FOV, so using 125 as your FOV there will give you the same amount of degrees as 110 in Quake Live. Hi RJN. Would you consider reviewing a Fnatic Boost mousepad? I find that there aren't very many hard pads on the market, especially around 40 cm size, and Fnatic ones are also cheaper compared to other hard pads that I've seen.

Hey Ninja. Have you tried the hyperx pulsefire FPS mouse. Heard it should be good.

I've never played quake before and the easiest binds for me is using the standard W,A,S,D and the nearest buttons for switching weapons. like Q,E,R for Rocket, lightning, shotgung (In this order) and rail (for "finishing" a kill) on my "nearest" mouse button (mouse4 bind on a random key like C) and G for gauntlet and V for machinegun (which I mostly never switch to). I see no need to change my W,A,S,D standard setting which is in every game nowadays.. I only do need Q,E,R and mouse4 for rail gun the rest is situation-"limited"

+1 to RMB for +forward! :) I had it like that for the last 20 years or so in all FPS.

Do you still at 1600 dpi like in QL? (the 2016 video about mouse sens). Also did you change something, since we have more option in QC now with mouse.

How much FPS do you get with this setup and settings in QC? Say on open areas like Quad at Burial chamber with 8 people in?

I just switched from my deathadder to my naga to see if the number pad would help with switching weapons. I figured a big MMO mouse with a laser sensor would hurt my K/D, but since the switch Ive been in the top 3 in most of my matches.

Would you consider doing some coaching style videos? The type where you watch someones gameplay and go over what things they could be doing better.

So i notice my wireless mouse, has a lazer pointer that unlike other mouses i have had. It's on the far left not the middle. I've been wondering if this is the reason i cant flick 180 like you can.

Hey i'm playin Ql for 2 years now (and i'm still bad haha ) and i've tried out QC. Problem is , i can't really play it cause my pc isn't optimized for video games , do you have any tips to increase my fps rate ? I need the graphics quality to be lower than what you can get in the menus.

I just started playing this game yesterday (played some Q3 on LAN parties back in the day), and seem to mostly win or get top 3 in team DM, but the Duel mode is really hard. Seems like all the Quake veterans gather there, it's like a whole other league. Can you make a video on how to play Duel mode like the veterans? :)

Question.. The 28cm 360 degrees on the moïse you have, on which dpi setting was that? What is your screen resolution? Mine takes 5 cm for 1600 dpi... Also, on the paid version of quake there are many more mouse options, can you please do an updates video with those? Mouse sensitivity is set to 5 by default.. On your video it was 0.18.

Whats the disadvantage of using higher fov? I almost always crank fov to max. I dont even notice visual distortion but does it affect aiming in anyway?

wow right mouse button for move forward. that's how i setup quake 1 & 2. wasn't till i played q3a at lan parties that they talked me into traditional wasd cool to see an old school player

So I got into the beta got the game downloaded, but my graphics card is not the best it is decent I think its a radeon hd7600m not 100% sure not at home to check at the moment and I have a quad core i7. When I hit start game it begins running a black screen pops up then disapears quickly. After a couple tries it says it was not able to finish the initial setup, but ive reinstalled it several times and was careful to make sure everything is installed correctly. So I am not sure if it is just I need better hardware or an error with the game or launcher.

There are more mouse settings now like acceleration, yaw, and filtering. An update explaining those would be helpful.For the life of me I cannot find a setting that lets me aim precisely without it being too slow while being fast enough for movement without overshooting constantly.

Hi, I'd like to ask for help. I can not get over 100FPS because my CPU is stuck at 95% all the time (i5 6500) while the graphics card(gtx 1060 5gb) is just at 30%, lowest settings except resolution (scaling). I tried everything I found online, but nothing was able to remove the bottleneck. Do you know about anything I might try? I actually wanted to get a 144Hz monitor for this game but since I discovered that I can't even get that many frames I don't even need to bother.

hey zy. i download the game and when i start to installation, microsoft visual cc began to install and then microsoft installer got stuck at the end and i canceled it. now i cant get into game. when i press play it says checking running and open a new black screen then black screen closing immediately. any idea?

Hey Zy, sorry for the OT, just a question: Can a Rival 100 track well on this? www.trust.com/it/product/20819-gxt-209-xxxl-mouse-pad bought this in december, and didn't want to change it so early, because it's nice and veery big. Although, i've only used it on a cheapo gxt 152 mouse, that stops tracking when you do fast flicks, for that reason I wanna change it for a Rival 100. Cheers!

Hey i just wanted to say love your Videos and tutorials too. I played Q3 Arena a lot in my early Gaming Years but left it on side for a long long Counter Strike time. Now im coming back and im fucking confused its so hard for be getting back to the good movement cause Characters are different in Quake Champions so would love to see a good Quake Champions movement Tutorial from u.
