You probably won't ever see me VS a pro player, so this will have to do... for all the cool highlights I get, pros are on another level. So I'm glad so many people enjoy my gameplay and I appreciate the compliments, but I'm not pro level. ;)
Also this was my best game of the 3 we played... I came 3rd in the two others and died a lot. Was not having a good night.
"sweepthelegs" is former Australian Quake champ Python, who came 5th in the world in Quake 3 back when Fatal1ty was number one, and he did it 3 years in a row. He also competed recently and got Top 12 or so at QuakeCon 2016 in Quake Live. Doesn't play as seriously anymore, but still an amazing player. I may have some of my details wrong, it was a long time ago, so correct me if I messed up a placement.
For this beta, they were still testing servers and connections, so it was not easy to play, everyone was making mistakes and missing easy shots. I slowed down one where I was so sure my crosshair was beyond the column but the rocket still hit it somehow. It happens. Still fun.
Hoping they've finished all that and we can start getting some smooth games next time. BETA is still heaps of fun, so I'm not complaining too much, just slightly frustrated because I'm dying to play it seriously. Awesome game.

It's so funny to see how QC and UT are such polar opposites. QC has the gameplay design already well fleshed out but is full of bugs. In UT we don't even know what we're trying to develop, but it doesn't have bugs and netcode is pretty good.

Speaking of UT, the power cooldown pickups remind me of UT2k3 and UT2k4 adrenaline pickups. Then I remember people bickering about adrenaline abilities and how they don't want it in the new UT.

Alternatively, I miss the wall running and bouncing off the walls (Nyx can but it doesn't feel same) and flying off lifts to do unique moves. Rocket jumping and bunny hopping are fun too though.

UT movement is by design. Strafe jumping is an accident. ;) Personally, I hate movement in Quake in general, because you can't move on stairs and the floor feels like ice. With the wonky movement in UT you might not be able to fly through the map at mach 3, but it makes the fights faster paced instead, because of the high-accel movement. In Quake, once you get into a fight, you have to commit, because trying to escape gets you killed. btw. it's not really comparable with adrenaline, mostly because you needed to pick up waaaaay too much adrenaline in UT2k4. Or alternatively, you killed people to gain it, making it more like a killstreak reward.

apologiz tome Earlier versions. It wasn't always at Steam. Before, you could download it from original site. Then for a larger community, they moved it to Steam. And then they changed QuakeLive f2p to pay2play. For obvious reasons.

Rosâry It was free up until after the Bethesda buyout of id. Then they elected to make it cost at retail to funnel buyers towards Quake Champions.

The shotgun dose more damage than the rail (zoomed) Althou i see you point. I think the bad net code combined with high ping Screwed him over. Point is do not exlude it. It is one of the best guns in the game.

and having to be zoomed in while in close range just to get full damage, even though zooming in while in close range is just stupid but you still have to do it, totally makes sense, right? I'd expect such mechanic to be in something like CoD, not Quake. What's next, killstreak bonuses?

Did they slow down the rocket projectile's velocity with this recent patch? Also, are people able to purchase cosmetics etc. yet? I haven't been able to figure it out when I get on, it seems like it's not enabled yet and I see people with full-sets of gear already or "original weapon skins". Looking forward to the 9th, made me sad it was only up for a day this time, but I know it's for the better. Cheers

Just a quick question? What do you think about playerbase? I played QC in beta, before christmass I got my key from bethesda (like for thank you for playing in beta, now we need players so there is your game for free XD) I was looking at reddit and does this game really lack players? Im asking if I should stay with Quake Live and Doom or is it worth to move to QC?

I'll just throw this out there - Back when I used to play Quake 2 FFA, I remember leading the game mostly because of adapting to each situation. I never picked up Quad and barely had armour. I used to assess each situation, and interrupt players who are having a duel and pick on the one I feel is weaker. This helped me gain frags very quickly. It was never about taking on players 1v1 because doing so is like a street fight. You can never predict who's going to pounce on you from behind. So picking up Quad and beefing up your armour doesn't always work when you're racing for frags. Quad is a target magnet and having 2 or 3 ppl gang up on you will diminish your armour in seconds. It's smarter to use Quad as bait and target its spawn area from a distance and fish for frags. I've always felt FFA is all about playing really 'FAST' and moving in and out of situations, picking out opponents without engaging entirely. Let others do the work of depleting health and just be around to take the kill. Weapon switching is also KEY. I'm not that good at duel matches comparatively but always had an explosive frag rate in FFA matches. Crazy bit is my death count is among the highest but that doesn't matter as long as you can assess situations as second nature and bump up your frag count really really quickly. Just my two cents :)

I've been playing quake for 9 years, played the beta a month or so ago and couldn't get used to how rockets aren't instantaneous. It feels like you shoot but the rocket lingers, or doesn't shoot immediately. I'm so used to quake 3 and live that it honestly confused the hell out of me. Only weapon I had issues with, and it's by far the most rewarding.

how do you swap weapons so fast? i.e for railgun followup shots? my ping in beta has always been sub 50 but my weapon swaps are super slow, literally taking 1-2 seconds...

It's based on reload times... if you shoot, the weapon has to reload before you can switch. So generally you run around with a weapon that reloads quickly (machine gun, lightning gun and nailgun are the fastest, then rocket) shoot with them first, then switch. Shotgun and railgun are the slowest.

A couple of years ago I actually got to face fatal1ty while casually playing QL TDM. He was at full health/armor all the time and despite of everyone doing everything in their power to kill him he easily came out on top every single match. I did manage to kill him a couple of times though which was nice.

This is the nature of Australian Quake ever since 1999 or something... Pyth really has been dominant that long. I remember stories of people fearing the railgun on Quake 2 CTF 1 (map) because he was so next-level. So don't worry, pretty much all of us feel what you feel haha

Reydriel I don't believe so. I play with 800dpi 1.3 sens on csgo for an effective dpi of 1040. I play with a bit higher sens on quake because of the fast nature of the game. Playing too low sens requires way too much hand movement. I think I just try to look at too many angles at any given time trying to avoid getting caught off guard.

Many Quake players play with low sens. I don't know what yours translates to, but Zy moves the mouse about 30cm (1ft) to do a 360 turn. Some pros play with even lower sens.

In csgo, I use roughly 16in or 40cm per 360 turn. Can't test quake champions right now but I know I use a bit higher sens.

The beta isn't in a good state right now, they're maxing out the connection with debug info and stuff... have to wait for it to be smoother and less laggy. No one is playing at their proper level just yet. But it's fun and I'd rather play than not, so it's all good.

Rebind your weapon keys to be easier to reach. Seriously, it's pretty much mandatory in Quake. Bind them to keys close to your movements keys. (Like Q, E, R, F, C etc. if you're using WASD as movement keys) They aren't being used anyway so why not?

Just wondering, what do you think about the health difference for each character when it comes to playing a round of "free for all"? don't seem quite fair to me since so many just focus on killing the weak character first to get ahead. Would like to know your thoughts
