You know I've sacrificed *cough*blundered*cough* my queen in the early game and got 3 pieces for it...but I can't hold it. Not having a queen feels like you're constantly getting bullied and they just hunt down your pieces one by one. Magnus made it look easy but dear god is that not...at least at my level...

Yeah, I feel like at the low levels a queen is worth more than three pieces (and even a rook is worth more than two, most of the time). We suck at coordination, that's why. Maybe Levy could cover some tips for that, would be cool.

I sacked my queen for a rook and knight in the game I played just before watching this, after my opponent had tried to do the greek gift. Evidently in my situation it was the best move and advantage for my opponent was +2,3 at this moment (tbf it was one of just two legal moves and the other move would hang M2). Was a stressful game that I won in the end. I can totally see your point, not having a queen makes you constant on the alert for checks where one of your pieces are forked so you need to have the other pieces protecting each other.

If you really want to learn the Dutch by a master go look at Ginger GM, Simon Williams. And if you want in depth Dutch theory without paying, look at Hanging Pawns RU-vid channel. But Levy is right the Dutch is a horrible opening with many light square concessions and you’re always smacked even if you think you’re borderline winning. I feel absolutely tired after playing the Dutch and I’m 2000 elo. If you want a “good” aggressive opening against D4 use the king’s Indian. The Dutch isn’t worth the hours. Plus Stockfish thinks it’s an inaccuracy, ON MOVE 1. Think about it.

I learned Dutch from levy's opening series (and I usually play it against everything except e4) and I can confirm him that the collapse is almost unavoidable if your opponent knows what they are doing but at the same time, it's very rare opening and an unknown repertoire to low rated player (i'm 1700 lichess and I rarely see someone that could use the advantage to reach to a winning position against dutch. Like 20% of the time) so it's not that bad if you are not playing at master level. But yeah there are better openings to learn when you cannot manage the pressure. Funny thing is, sometimes your opponent overstimate their chances and sack one of their piece to break through but finally lose the game, it barely happenes generally in any position/opening but it's very often in dutch from my experience.
