I just saw this video as I recently purchased one of the Chinese made Android head units. I loved the information and presentation of this video. Although my unit is a different brand, the features and layout are virtually the same. You are absolutely correct in saying it is not for an audiophile. That said, if you have a factory installed amp unit (Bose or similar from factory) these units generally provide better audio quality than the stock head units as they just use the line level outputs rather than speaker level. I would 100% recommend using these units with an external amp and not rely on the cheap internal amplifier as the internal amp on the Chinese made units is a bit rubbish, even now in 2019. The functionality of the units, regardless of brand, seems very similar and they are very usable.

how did you pair the obd2 bluetooth module to the HU? the HU sees it but when i try to connect to it, it doesn't do anything. i'm assuming it's because a PIN isn't entered but it doesn't prompt and i obviously can't enter one from the obd2 module.

John question, I have my stock subaru brz touchscreen unit and i pretty sure you know its not the best out there, the gps looses connection most of the time. But is this model is better then the stock headunit? Like its fast and it doesn't stutter or the gps doesn't loose connection or bluetooth actually pairs or when you talk with the mic it sounds better. Radio is it better then the stock headunit? And finally can you run spotify and torque at the same time? The only way ill buy it is if its better then stock.

Ok 2 part question here. 1-does the screen dim when the headlights come on? (Its so annoying when you have to dim the screen yourself) AND 2-can the radio auto-adjust the volume of whatever you're playing according to the vehicle speed.(ie. If the car goes faster the volume gets a little louder)

I was having issues because i didnt sign into google first. i could not get it to login later so i factory reset unit. now navigation and tourqe apps are missing. i am also having problems with the sub output after going loud and wont come back down on sub woofer. I also went for the dvr option and I cant get it to auto record when put in drive.

Hey, so you mentioned that regular satellite radio does not work out of the box. Can you buy a sirius antenna or are you limited to just streaming using the sxm app? I absolutley hate my Kenwood DDX9703S and am considering one of these to replace it, but having sxm is a deal breaker for me. Thanks!

There is no such attachment at this time. You have to hotspot wifi to the android head unit then listen from there

Can you make a wiring video? I know you said multiple times the wiring isn't hard, but it would be really nice to see exactly where everything has to go, where wires need to be spliced, etc. I also have this unit, and I'm not seeing where some of the stuff needs to go. Or dm me with pictures

It varies depending on the unit. The one from seicane were literally like lego pieces to get the headunit turned on and having audio (with steering wheel controls).

John Nguyen Yeah, I can get it running, radio, gps, and speakers working. I need to grab a harness to keep my OEM USB. I'm mostly confused on how to wire up my backup camera, AUX, and CAN BUS. I have a '16 brz, and this exact HU.

Great reviews! I believe you mentioned that this worked with the factory amp, but could you confirm? If so, was it plug and play or did you need to repin a connector? I bought a Android HU years ago for my FRS and it never activated the onboard amp. Thanks!

i didn't have to repin anything it just worked. From my understanding if there was no sound then you had to turn on the remote turn on amp wire. which i didnt do. Therer was no weird static noises or anything

Hey John Nguyen, Is it a true octo core? MY phone uses a Media Tek octo core labeled very similar to yours and when you run an app like CPU-Z you see that only 4 cores run at one time. So it is actually 4 cores are the normal speed and 4 cores are the turbo speed. That may be why you don't see a night and day difference from the quad core units.

Can a android headend unit be connected to service like onstar and the items like door alarms that I read about when trying to compare against a Pioneer or Kenwood navigation unit. Thanks hope this makes sense what I'm asking to android looks way more exciting option.

Hi quick question. What if your car doesn’t have stock back up camera? Dose this unit come with a kit to be able to have a backup camera? Also the 2013 FRS comes with an AUX and USB will those till work or do they be come disable ?

you need to buy an additional cable for usb. its like 8 bucks on amazon. if your car doesn't have a reverse camera you can hook one up. if you don't its not going to do anything if you throw it into reverse

Has this unit been updated to a newer Android version? The 14' BRZ-Limited has the following stock - HD Radio, GPS, TPMS. With this unit I wouldn't need to buy any extra parts to get all those benefits right? Aren't TPMS supposed to be replaced and re-calibrated every time you get new tires?

Amp question, if input a front,rear and subwoofer to your amp.. does it disable the factory output (your factory speaker wires)? is there any setting for those outputs to increase and decrease vol.... does the subwoofer have a better Hz's EQ and such

honestly i don't know, there are output through rca and that's pretty much i can tell you :( settings wise yeah there are a bunch of vol increases and decreases through software. Hz EQ and thing it doesn't really have you most likely have to download viper4android

Hi John. How's the connection of the wifi? Does it connect quick and everytime? I just recently bought an Eonon Android unit for my bmw. Love it. But Hotspot connection is hit and miss. Their customer service is very helpful but now I need to send it back to get a replacement unit. Considering getting my money back if I can find a better android unit. Would you say there's any cons with this unit? Thanks.

I have no issues with my wifi. The only issue i get is sometimes my hotspot turns off because of my weak cellular

What's the most reliable chipset inside these headunits?I heard rk chips gave trouble in tvbox and tablets..not so much is heard in headunits though

rk3188 chips are good with the heatsink they put into these. They have been good from my experience. I would be careful with the dual core

John Nguyen I got my phone to connect to the ecu but the obd2 won't pair. In the torque app it doesn't even see the obd2 so yeah I dunno

i got the bluetooth obd2 from seicane too, so if you got that one it should work 100 percent. i think you need to press a button or something on the obd2. i totally forgot, its on my girls car so i cant really test it right now

Hi John, thanks for all the great info. I have one quick question. Will the head unit connect to the OBD Bluetooth adapter and my phone's Bluetooth at the same time? If not, I guess I could just download Torque on to my phone and then mirror the phone onto the head unit, but it would be nice if it could connect to both at the same time without having to disconnect one to connect the other. Again, really appreciate all this useful info!

Don't you have to know which wire it corresponds to the head unit? I looked at the forums for our car and it's pin 9 for the 10 pin harness. Which one do I tap to the head unit?

Fixed it. So I was right that you had to repin the 10 pin harness wire that Seicane gives you. As a fellow forum poster pointed out here: www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=124050 "The #8 pin in the 10 pin connector should be in the #9 pin connector position!"

Why would you use Igo instead of Google Maps???

igo uses the gps antenna and can be used offline. Google maps requires a cellular signal (or hotspot) to work properly. You could download offline google maps but it's a hassle and needs to be downloaded like every 2 months

Most will run Google Maps using downloaded map data and online if connected to a hotspot on your phone or dongle, traffic only when online.
