I made this quick and easy mortising/domino jig out of scrap laying around my shop. I find it an easy alternative before investing in a Festool domino, one day I'll own one! One thing I would change is the size of hole for the bit so you're able to see your marks easier!
Thanks for watching!

UPDATES ON THE JIG: After using it for a while I ended up notching out roughly a 1"section on the jig that lays on the work piece so It's easier to see your lines that you drew on the work piece. This is was quick and easy adjustment that has helped me a bunch and I found it sped up my workflow a lot, Hope this helps! Cheers

I just finished building the handrail on my deck ru-vid.comUgkxfQ5_mgwq6PcudJvAH25t-I4D-3cTPz4z and used this great little router to clean up the top rail before the final sanding and stain. It was light weight but packed lots of power. Either size battery didn't seem to make it top heavy and I'm a 64 yr old women so I really appreciated how easy it was to use...................... CORDLESS only way to go !!

Really great idea man. Might have to make this jig as well. Been wanting a domino for a while, but something like this might hold me over until then. How deep were you able to plunge with your router? Thanks again.

Yeah same a domino would be a great addition but is quite costly. I’ll eventually get one haha with this bit I can go roughly 3/4” give or take and I used the 6mm x 40mm festool tenons! Hope this helps. Cheers!

Very good idea. Thanks a million for your video. The real one is costly. I’ve there must be a way then I found your video. I will be making one. But I will have to buy plunge base for my Dewalt compact router. Please post just a quick video of you updated domino jig. Thanks again.

This looks very interesting to me! Thank you for your hard work in getting the video, etc. put together! I don't see what that oblong opening in base for the bit does... except to help move out the cut chips.... (??) I also don't see how you can see where you are cutting... the lines drawn are being covered by wood... Are you just cutting by the seat of your pants hoping you get it wide enough? I was thinking of using plexiglass, lexan, etc. for the Base and the Fence having a Center Line and Left & Right lines where you can see exactly where you are cutting... Does that sound feasible/workable to you? Also, this is good for cutting around the edges of the workpiece... How would you cut them in the flat side of the workpiece for Shelves, etc.? I was thinking of a having the Base extended, with guide lines etched in the plexiglass, Horiz. and Vertically to be able zero-in on the desired mortice. How does that sound to you? Any hicups present? Thank you again... Good work... A nice application of the KISS principle... NOT getting over complicated with all the other stuff! Great thinking!

Good thinking! I was gonna suggest a viewing notch but based on your pinned comment it looks like you've already got that covered.

Sorry, but I’m not understanding how you get the router to line up with the lines you drew on the work piece. Seems like the fence is in the way. What am I missing? Thanks!

I actually made an update on this jig! After using it for a while I found this way worked but I ended up notching out a 1" section of the jig that lays on the work piece so I could see my marks. That helped tons for me! Hope this helps for you, as it did for me. I thought I pinned a comment but I guess I didn't. I'll add that on here. Thanks!

Надо что б фрезер перемещался на заданную ширину, а упор был неподвижен. Это существенно повысит скорость и точность соединения

Nice idea! I've been looking for videos on how to do this and yours is different than the woodshiperer version and as you mentioned, the only thing different i'd make would be seeing if you've gone too far from your mortise line mark.

Thanks! Yeah it’s worked well so far, I did make a change on mine and ended up make a notch so I can see my marks easier as well! Definitely a good cost effective alternative to buying a domino! Cheers

@@AceWoodCo Haha. Does Festool have a patent on the domino or something? Why doesn't anyone make an affordable one yet?

@@HowIDoThingsDIY I think so, but not 100% sure. The other brands would be silly to not do something like the domino if there wasn’t a patent 😂
