QUICK TIP: BAND ELONGATION
In this video I will show how to test slingshot band elongation. Explain why you need to test your elastic before you make bands. I will compare 2 different bands cut to identical length and size.

great info for mid shooters. the variance in elastic is wild. when you get good enough you start to expect results and when things go wrong it can throw you.

Ya I had so many questions about bands and so many people were telling me that they divide their draw length by a random number no matter what bands they tried. Then saying these bands were good and these bands were bad. Its a little boring vid but the information is important. I think it will help those who sit through the vid.

That's true.. Elongation factor generally used among slingshot shooters is around 5.5. But you need to know what is the true elongation factor that each type of rubber bands had.. There are bands that stop at 4 elongation factor and of course there are bands that stop stretching at 7 elongation factor. Once you knew this, then you need to consider your draw length.. It's good to see that you pointed that out..
@ATOMark

I get this question all the time. It is kinda hard to explain in text. But I think it is pretty clear when seen. I hope this will help some people.

Superb video, you have helped me a lot recently. I've been trying out different Chinese pre-cut bands (they are all I can get in the Philippines - but they are fine for the average shooter for decent speed and accuracy) to find one that works best for me. You've convinced me that rather than stick to a rigid formula you really need to do a stretch test. I did this on 0.7 and 1mm bands and although the band lengths were quite different I was getting consistent accuracy with both. I prefer lighter bands with 8mm BB so I'm going to order some 0.65 and will use the same method. Cheers. Liked and subbed.
@ATOMark
@ATOMark 2 года назад
Thanks my video could help. If you are shooting 8mm I would go with .5 bands. They are plenty fast. Gzk, snipersling, bsb will all get over 300fps
@tyrotrainer765
@tyrotrainer765 2 года назад
@@ATOMark Many thanks! I'll give them a try. Could you recommend a taper for 0.5mm that gives a good pull but also decent band life? Cheers

Great info for people out there. Now I can just send them to this video🤣🤣 that sounded kinda like I was being a jerk to people and I didn't mean it that way. I was meaning when they ask why they aren't getting what they expected from the bands, i can refer them here. Lol

My pleasure man. I have a roll of elastic from Amazon in .8 Dilwe brand. I will test them soon.
@garybeckner2991

Another way I have found to get more speed, is to make the fork end of your bands about a half inch wider than the attachment point of the forks. Then about 1.5 inches before the end of the bands cut a taper on the fork end so that the actual ends are the correct width. This gives a bit more power to your bands. So basically you have a band set that is tapered at both ends.
@ATOMark
@ATOMark 2 года назад
Interesting. I should see if I can figure out how to make some of those
@wojpyz

Really good video Mark👍🏻 Just quick question. I'm usually aiming long time (about 5-7sec) Will my long aiming change ammo speed also?
@ATOMark
@ATOMark 2 года назад
Yes a little. The longer you hold can slow them down a little. Usually if I cant get on target on target in 5 seconds I will abort the shot and re shoot.
@Qwerty-fh6ol
@Qwerty-fh6ol 2 года назад
If anyone scrolling through the comments shoots gzk green or gzk black cold wether bands I have some questions. What thickness is the best for 10 mm lead or 11 mm steel and what tapers have you found to be most effective ( speed wise ) when shooting. Thank you all have a good day.
@ViIsBi
@ViIsBi 2 года назад
What taper and band material would you recommend for shooting clays? I've just started shooting slingshots and I really want to make my own bands. I have the same draw length as you at around 30". I'm probably gonna get theraband because it's fairly in expensive but I'm not sure what resistance to get
@ATOMark
@ATOMark 2 года назад
.4 or .45 somewhere near 20-12. Would be fine.
@ATOMark
@ATOMark 2 года назад
Ya I don't have much experience with theraband but I here the blue is pretty light.
@ViIsBi
@ViIsBi 2 года назад
@@ATOMark I was thinking blue myself, i feel anything above would be too powerful and would cause the balls to explode in the pouch
@mrln247
@mrln247 2 года назад
Would you be up for chrono testing a band set from 400% to 600% just re-tie the same set shorter every 10shots. I have tested this recently when trying snipersling and found I got more speed at less than max, going from 6.5-1 picked up ~10fps going down to 5.5-1 was shooting butterfly 23-15 if that makes any difference. Might be short draw aggressive taper maximum works better?
@ATOMark
@ATOMark 2 года назад
The only problem with that is you aren't keeping the same taper. Each time you cut the bands at the pouch end the taper gets larger and smaller at the pouch end.
@mrln247
@mrln247 2 года назад
@@ATOMark I just re-attached at the frame end folding the flappy ends down so actually had slightly less latex? The "angle" of the taper is obviously much less on 23-15 when going over 11" rather than 6" which will make some difference, but pretty sure the speed change I saw was real and going to check some other bands.
@ATOMark
@ATOMark 2 года назад
@@mrln247 oh ya there could be a speed change it is something to try for sure. I think I would make 3 band sets with true tapers at 400, 500 and 600% and see what we get.
@ATOMark
@ATOMark 2 года назад
Oh ya thats true you shoot long draw. Ok that makes sense. For short draw cutting off a cm can add a mm to the pouch end. Very interesting idea you have.
@mrln247
@mrln247 2 года назад
@@ATOMark Worth a try currently my butter zone seems to be around 550% with what I'm using good speed less stiff to draw near the end too, you could try the 50% in between by cutting a little off the end of each would be close enough.
