In today's quick tip, we're going to be installing the extended magazine release lever from Crossfire Shooting Products. This one is for the Ruger 10/22 or 10/22 copies like this BRN-22 here. It provides a larger paddle to make releasing that magazine nice and easy for faster magazine changes, especially useful in competitions or for general convenience.
First, we need to make sure our firearm is unloaded. Pull the charging handle back, observe the chamber, and ensure it is unloaded. Next, we need to remove the action from the stock. For this, we'll use a hex wrench to unscrew the action screw. Ensure the safety selector is in the middle position to avoid it hitting the stock during removal. Lift up on the barrel to remove the action from the stock.
You'll see two pins holding the trigger group in place. Push these pins out, and the trigger group will come right out. The old magazine release lever is held in by a pin, which you can push out with a punch. Remove the old lever and replace it with the new extended magazine release lever, ensuring the spring is properly positioned. Insert the new lever into the slot and align the holes to push the pin back in.
Reassemble the firearm by reversing the disassembly steps. Ensure the ejector is properly seated, and line up the receiver with the stock. Insert the pins back into place, and make sure the safety is in the middle position before tightening the action screw.
And that's it! You've successfully installed the extended magazine release lever.
