Brings back memories when I used to work in a car dealership when r134a came out. At the time it was similarily outrageous in price -- around $1000 a keg. Of course, customers were outraged at the price to service then their outdated r12 systems. Now, when Joe Average can do a simple 134a recharge with a can costing a couple of bucks its gotta go.... And, wait a few years too when they amazingly "discover" 1234yf is also "bad" for the environment.

@samg5543 2 года назад
It's suspicious that a leak check is now required if it's supposedly so safe for the enviroment. I am assuming they don't want flammable vapor in the cabin, but it seems there may be more to it than that...

Here's a question- In the first video, you said that this refrigerant contributes less to global warming per pound than CO2. If this crap is actually so safe for the environment, why does it need to be recovered instead of being allowed to be vented into the atmosphere like hydrocarbon refrigerants?
@Fringeless
@Fringeless 5 лет назад
Dust off contains 134a or 152b, it is allowed to be vented all over my computer. What's the deal with that? There is so much green corruption going on in government right now.
@averyalexander2303
@averyalexander2303 5 лет назад
@@Fringeless You are right. R152A has a much lower global warming potential than R134A, but I have seen canned air that uses R134A. A lot of aerosol products actually use R134A as a propellant, even some inhalers.
@stevemetcalf6044

Avery Alexander, yours is the best question I have seen on here, Everything I have read says 1234 is almost harmless to the environment. I am positive my Robinair 134 machine can be reprogrammed and retrofitted to perform the 1234 duties at a minimum cost, I also know that will not happen because the manufactures have us by the balls because of these new federal laws, and did you notice the threat of federal prosecution for tampering with emissions equipment if using 134 in a 1234 system.
@averyalexander2303
@averyalexander2303 5 лет назад
@@hydraulics Nope. That isn't why it is legally required to be recovered.
@averyalexander2303
@averyalexander2303 5 лет назад
@@stevemetcalf6044 Yup. Apparently 1234YF is less harmful to the environment than C02 and we aren't required to recover our breath. It is also supposedly less harmful than R290 (propane) and R600 (butane), and neither of those need to be recovered.

really? I don't trust no one anymore too much bs. EPA for starters they offer nothing, kick backs have to be their main source of income from manufactures who for profit create all of this bs. You don't need a $12000 machine to do this process. You can literally go to harbor freight and get all the tools you need to recharge your car for under $300. The only thing that will be harder to locate is a recovery tank to store the old gas in, but you can just do like everyone else in the world and accidentally remove the valve core and vent the refrigerant to the atmosphere. All of these rules are a joke, and all of them are designed to get you to spend more money. HVAC is not complicated, they just do there best to make it seem like you need a professional to do it but the professionals are not even professionals they are just button pushers who have a $12000 machine that tells them where to hook the hoses. Vacum pump, cheap hvac gauges, and a set of yf1234 to r134a type adapters is all you need. You can get everything but the adapters at Harbor freight. Pull a vacum on the car for 30 minutes, hook up your refrigerant, bleed the air from the lines until gas starts coming out, then crack the valve and let the gas into the car. You don't need a certification, or license, or a machine

It still amazes me that shops purchase these stupid ass recovery machines and that auto techs apparently can't use normal hvac tools to charge up a simple AC system in a car. There is no freakin way I am buying a $12000 machine to replace a $200 vacum pump, a $100 set of gauges and if you want to get really fancy another $400 for a recovery machine that you really don't even need for such a small system. You get a recovery tank, pull a vacum on it, open the valve and suck the gas out of the car boom done with $300 worth of tools. You get a digital kitchen scale and place your tank of refrigerant on it, do the maths and figure out how much refrigerant you need and pull a vacum on the car, bleed the air out of your hoses and open the valve and suck your one pound of gas back into the car. IDK if any of you have ever met your average HVAC tech, but they ain't brain surgeons and they do this process every day without a friggin $12000 machine to walk them through it....

This is hot garbage. I'll not be buying any cars with this system and I'll make sure to inform the owners of the vehicle I work on that they got duped by the fed.... garbage. How you going to make a change and charge 10 to 30 times more for a mandated product?! It's 50 bucks for an 8oz can! IF you can even get it! Friend of mine had an AC charge and fill with NO DIAG and it was over 600 AFTER he already paid for the repairs on his hard lines!
