I haven't followed your videos for years because I agree with every take you have on a story.. I followed you for all these years because you're a wonderful narrator and you usually are right. Even when you are wrong, you still have a point and just get a little too passionate, or maybe get influenced by other stories you read that day. Yes we need some wholesome Reddit posts too. I think (not sure) he covered some before but maybe they didn't take off as much so those subreddits didn't become consistent, but it's always nice to take a break from all this negativity.

You used to mix in fun topics like Nice Guys vs nice Girls, Tales From Tech Support, and Tales from the Front Desk. Lately, it's been a cycle of 3-4 of the heaviest topic reddit threads (Entitled Parents, AITA, Pro Revenge). I suggest mixing the fun ones with the heavy ones. Then you won't get bogged down and cynical. That's why for every Karen video I watch, I balance it out with 2-4 funny kitten videos. Just a thought!
Problem is mostly that he takes those Subreddits because they're the one that get the most clicks (look up his stats), and are the ones who gets the new materials the most. You could argue that ChoosingBeggar and NiceGuys/NiceGirls do to, but they're not that good with his channel being a "story reader" one.
I think OP should have talked to her youngest daughter and adam about it, they might have considered it and been more open to it instead of going behind their backs

Agreed. Personally I would say 6 months is too long since if Steve is actively looking for a job and works full-time. Between the two of them they might be able to move into a smaller apartment in like 3 months. Would money be tight for awhile? Yeah, but plenty of people are in the same situation and make it work.
For real. It's OPs house. He's choosing to help take care of his elderly mother. She has a good situation. Lay the law down hard and straight. The son's gf is a guest and will be treated like one. Mom has a problem with it, she can go to the old folks home, see if they tolerate her nonsense. Of course, OP was raised by this narcissist, so he probably never learned to stand up to her, but like, she's a frail old woman in recovery from medical care. What's she gonna do at this point? Hit him with her cane? Run him over with her wheelchair? There's so many better ways OP could've handled this.
I see it a little differently perhaps that maybe OP is trying to shield the girlfriend from his mothers inevitable reaction. How will the GF feel if the mother loudly proclaims she doesnt want some _______ around her? The question is, who is OP protecting, the mother or the GF? I agree with locking the old woman in the room though but I disagree with automatically labeling OP a racist. He may be handling the situation wrong but for an acceptable reason. Going out to dinner without the mother seems a valid alternative as well.
Update on story 2: The stepmom and Stepdaughter talked over zoom and worked out their issues. The Stepdaughter hadn't been talking with the Stepmom for the past 4 years because she didn't want a "fake" or replacement for her bio mom. She regrets it and wanted to start a friendship with her and now the Stepdaughter is planning on visiting her Stepmom down the road.
Yeah that's on her. Also did the stepmom set her straight about the bird? Cause an extremely intelligent animal having self harm problems isn't exactly a bad reason to not go out

@@metademetra Right. It's not "just a bird" - Macaws are pretty intelligent and bond deeply with their owner. Some can be left with other people for a while, but others can't and may lash out. And you don't want to be on the receiving end of their beaks if they want to do more to you than a gentle nibble.
I've disagreed with you on a few things lately, but that doesn't make your videos any less enjoyable. You're doing the best you can considering how many stories you've read over the years, it's bound to make you a bit cynical and harsh, especially with how awful some people are. The first story actually has an update which makes it a bit worse. The younger daughter found out due to her being the one paying the utilities for the house and noticed an increase. But after mother and younger daughter talked it out more the younger daughter agrees to keep it a secret from her husband but makes them agree to a shorter time that her eldest and other sil can stay there
The younger sister is also paying for the increase out-of-pocket to help keep it a secret. Her youngest daughter is liable to lose his trust and the relationship over this.
I think it's fair, and good on the younger daughter. This whole setup that Adam came up with is pretty manipulative. He sets his mom up with a house so that she will sell her old house or move out of her old apartment (whichever) and then doesn't actually give her the house but sets it up so that he can prevent her from helping her other kid while paying the utilities so that they can keep an eye on her. It's kinda sus, tbqh. If I was going to give someone a house, I'd just give them the house. (And I'm in a position where I may be able to do this in the next 15 years, even though I don't make 20% of what Adam probably makes, so not just talking just to talk.)

The person Adam trusts most is lying to help his BIL avoid the consequences of his own decisions. Although, the mother put the younger daughter in the tough position of choosing between her husband and the rest of the family. Doubt Adam maliciously bought property for his MIL, customized it to her liking, and charged her one dollar a month just to spite his BIL. And if he did that would just be showing off. Sounds like Adam wanted to do something really nice specifically for his MIL instead of buying something for the whole family.

I love that Rslash opens by talking about how burned out he is from dark stuff and we end on a story about human trafficking as proof of point. Rslash, now is the time to explore positive and fuzzy subreddits maybe once or twice a week :) compassion fatigue is something that can happen to mental health professionals and we're taught about how to watch out so it doesn't affect our work. I feel you may be experiencing something akin to that, so self care and breaks from negative threads would be my hope for you :)
I paused after the very first story to comment because of how gratuitously wrong he got his first take right off the bat. It could be ignorance, as most folks in the US are brainwashed into believing some really dumb economic falsehoods, but to to apologize for fucking it up and then immediately come out like Thor, swinging his mighty hammer down so he can hit the nail on the pointy end... It needs comment.
@Bear Naff No, I side with Dabney on this one. I have watched my own mother bend over backwards and pour from an empty cup again and again for my older siblings. Giving them money, letting them move back home, not charging them rent, and taking out of both her and my dad's retirement money to stay afloat, and not a penny has been paid back. Two siblings have had to move back home at different times, one of them has moved back THREE TIMES, and is currently still living with mom and dad. And at no point did any of them pay rent, help clean the house, or even cook an occasional meal. Nothing. So I totally get why OP's daughter is upset. It's not fair to the son-in-law, because he put money into getting OP that house, and charges an insanely low rent, and the only condition he had was that she wouldn't have anyone else live there. And then she goes and does the exact opposite of that? Breaks that contract without a second thought? I'd be pissed, too!!

With the racist mom story, I feel like OP wants to protect her sons gf from the racism of the grandmother, but honestly should let the gf and her son protect themselves. Grandma can be disturbed all she wants, it’s 2023 she had time to get over racism, and the fact she can’t is ridiculous.
thing with the parrot story is it's not just a regular pet. It's mentality is essentially that of an abused toddler with trust issues for people they don't know, and would likely be incredibly clingy to the only person that takes care of them. It'd be very near impossible to do much of anything outside of the bird and judging by how she explains it, this was a known factor since the step-daughter and husband had met her.
if the step-daughter and OP wants to cooperate,why not have OP take care of the step-daughter's child at her home for some days instead?this would be win-win for everyone...

@@teslagod7221 Abused animals, as a rule of thumb, can be quite volatile. Children are generally not gentle with animals and have to be taught to be. Starting with an abused one is just not a good idea. I think rSlash is right here. Nobody is entirely in the wrong here. It’s understandable that OP’s stepdaughter would feel hurt since we’re talking about her WEDDING, but we’re also talking about an abused animal who won’t react well to OP being away or moving it. I think the closest middle grown can only be gained by trying to explain to the daughter civilly.

I agree my favorite gal Charlotte did every other day posting just as a small break. Did we miss her-sure did, does she deserve a break? Sure does and so do you Dabney. Also covering a few feel good story's never hurts either. I suck at names but a different reddit reader adds a mood lifter at the end of most of his stories. Take a week off. Play with your daughter and pupper and of course your SO.

The 3rd story is easy to solve: nursing homes exist to care for people who need help post op. My grandmother has gone into one for multiple surgeries. She hated it there & I have a feeling OPs mother will too, for different/additional reasons. A lot of nursing home attendants are POC & immigrants. Make sure she has plenty of diapers so that she doesn't cause assistants more work when they ignore her requests to get help to the bathroom out of spite. She'll learn to appreciate POCs real quick when she needs them for her basic needs.

My grandparents are all immigrants and they took better care of my great grandparents than anyone else could’ve, one was acc happier when she had to stay in our home country cause she couldn’t travel back due to health reasons and now she could actually enjoy more in the home than she could here in Canada. So wth do u mean immigrants, cause yk how many of us spend our lives taking care of elderly and having us live w them. Ik several immigrant families that do it and hint, my own comes from Portugal, I’d argue we spend more time taking care of elderly cause half our family gets crammed in one house to save money, that’s how my dad grew up.
Most likely the Racist didn't save for retirement or didn't survived at a job long enough with diversity standards to qualify for a retirement plan. In the US the average monthly payment for a nursing home is like $4k+. I like the spirit of what you said, but she's clearly planning on dying mad in her bed with her only faithful son for company. I hope OP gets retirement, but their kids aren't going to be there for him.

There was an update to the 3rd story. The dad did admit he was in the wrong. IIRC he did apologize to his son and his girlfriend and told the mom she had no say how could come over. I could be wrong on some of the details(I read the story weeks ago) but it did have a positive outcome.
I never ever comment on these videos, but I’ve been watching these videos every day since 8th grade. Im currently in my second semester of university. These videos are part of my daily routine. Me too, except i wasnt in school when i started listening. Ive been listening to Dabney for 4 years and its part of my morning routine. I live in Australia. The sound quality has been way better as time has gone on. I completely agree about the time away with him family. He needs it.
Unpopular opinion but I don’t think rslash has to apologize. He cannot have an opinion that makes everyone happy all the time. People think differently. He made no mistakes, because he’s giving an opinion. If you don’t like the opinion, discuss it in the comments. Rather he discusses in the form of RU-vid videos. But having thousands of people attack him every other video is just not constructive at all. Making his job harder isn’t cool. Just be grateful you’re consuming FREE content.

Saying that you shouldn’t have to apologise for having an opinion is fair, but what isn’t fair is saying that you can’t make a mistake because it’s just an opinion. For example, if I said ‘I don’t like black people, that’s just my opinion tho’ then I’d be wrong because even though that’s a hypothetical opinion - it’s still a really bad one that targets black people. The best course of action is to apologise when you make a mistake.

Story 1: hang on there is an update, OP finds out that the reason her daughter figured out they were living there was because of the increase in utility bills something mom didn't think about, and after a lot of guilt tripping OP convinces her daughter to keep it secret and to pay the extra costs so SIL doesn't find out (OP can't afford to pay the extra amount). Daughter also gives them a lot less time I think about four months instead of 6 again out of her house. So on top of sneaking in two more people, OP is now having her daughter lie to her husband so they don't all get kicked out, and because OP actually can't afford to have two more people in there the daughter is also paying for it. But my biggest problem with this whole thing is OP never asked SIL, would he say no to the guy that's all to all that crap about him being a corporate shell, probably. But at least OP would have shown that she respects SIL and their agreement by asking and explaining the situation. Now if he finds out he'll know that not only did she go against the agreement but his wife was lying to him.
That was my exact thought- call them up, explain the situation and vask permission. If Adam says no, then you acquiesce, if he says yes then no sitcom-style comedy of errors.

The beginning of human trafficking story reminded me of a funny story from when I quit going to church. At the time, I had a 1-yr-old son who spent the worship time in the church nursery. One sonday the service was interrupted to sent all the mother's to the nursery because the children were too upset for the caregivers to manage. I found out that one of the elders had taken away a toy musical instrument the children had been playing with. So I took my son and went home. A few weeks later, some elders came to ask why I had stopped going to church. I asked why they took away the toy musical instrument from the nursery and was told they don't believe in using instrumental music to worship God. I counters that King David worshipped with tambre (small drum) and lyre (small string instrument). They replied that was in the old testament, and they only accept what Jesus said. "So, if Jesus didn't specifically permit something, it can't be used as part of worship, right?" I asked. They answered, "Exactly! So, when can we expect you back?" I pretended to ponder for a moment, then replied, "I'll be back when you dig pit toilets, shut off the electricity, and attend church in your bathrobes, because in all the times I've read through the Bible, I've never seen anywhere that Jesus mentioned indoor plumbing, air conditioning, or 3-piece polyester suits."
I remember reading the parrot story with my friend and we both agreed that this was a “nobody sucks“ situation. I can understand where OP is coming from, but I can also understand the step-daughter.
Yah but you also gotta think birds are sentient (especially macaws) they have essentially the brain function of a 5 year old. I wouldn't leave a 5 yr old alone at all let alone for a few days. They would feel hurt and scared. If I couldn't bring the bird I wouldn't go anywhere. People don't realize once you have pets it isn't easy to just leave town. I have to set up schedules for each of my pets so who ever is watching them can properly care for them. I have 1 large tank with tetras, 1 large tank with an oscar (large fish), 1 small tank with guppies, 1 large tank with large painted turtle, 1 small tank with a small map turtle,1 bird, 4 cats, and 1 dog. Our dog can typically go with us to most places but everyone else cannot. Especially when we visit family out of state. 🙃 so most the time we don't bother leaving unless it's for the holidays or 1 overnight visit in the summer to hubby's brothers.
@@jenniferann7212 yes, but it also depends. Macaw sleeper cages are HUGE which isn't the best for travel. If you stay at a hotel it isn't ideal either because if it's free flying there will be lots of poo clean up and some people don't like birds in their home let alone large ones. And she said the bird is very anxious which can lead to stress to leave locations and can even lead to early death. As a child the stress of moving caused my elderly parakeet passed away due to

You deserve a break, I cannot imagine having to going through the same negative stuff every day for years and not need to step away. You always communicate with us so well and I think most of us were more worried than anything the last little while.
Story 2: I can see how both sides are reasonable. The parrot can only trust and be taken care of by OP, but not going to the event because of said parrot will hurt the stepdaughter. Either way, someone's going to be hurt
True but one is an easily traumatised (to the point they rip themselves apart and sit in that suffering for decades) dependent animal with nobody else and the daughter is an independent human being with a larger support system. OP could spend a year or two trying to get the parrot to accept another person but it seems unattainable for this event
@@Brynwyn123 op has to get the parrot acclimatized to at least another person who doesn't live with her, and would be willing to take care of her parrot. If op suddenly dies, the parrot isn't going to have anyone, and parrots can live for a long time.

I've always thought that putting out a new video every single day is admirable but it sounds so unsustainable. If you ever need to take a break, we aren't going to all die from having to wait a few weeks or months for a new video. Also there are some very lighthearted and positive subreddits out there. If you found one that you enjoyed then I know at least some of us would enjoy listening to you read from them!

I read the story about the racist Grandma before you covered it, I think you needed to read the comments and OP's replies before making your verdict. It was the BF trying to push his gf to come over, trying to force the interaction. There are a TON of comments about it that I think have a better viewpoint on it.
Yeah, that's one thing I was thinking. Okay, you know your grandma's racist, then why do you want your gf around her? I'd keep my SO away from any racist relatives, even if they lived in my house somehow (thankfully, I have my own one-bedroom apartment, so that should never happen) and even if I'd have to constantly go out to be with my GF.

1st story: I don't think the mother deserved such a harsh score. Her daughter, who presumably has a good relationship with, is down on hard times, wants to help her. She is wrong for doing it behind everyone's back, sure, but she did put rules and hard limits. She should have called, but she could have also been afraid of being declined. No real bad guys in that story tbh. Side note: take a break dude. It's fine. You don't even need to stock pile some videos. Just say hey, mini vacay, see you guys in two weeks. And GO.

Calling him a creator is a bit disingenuous. He doesn't write these stories. It would be.more accurate to call him a narrator. That is NOT a slight to Dabney, in any way. Morgan Freeman is well known for his narrations of documentaries and audio books. It takes a certain level of oratory skill and talent to be a successful narrator. Now, that said, the YT algorithm isn't exactly friendly to those who do take breaks. Doing so would likely cause a great deal of harm to rSlash's channel.

It is a well-known fact that the YT algorithm will deprioritize channels that don't post regularly and will remove subscribers from inactive channels. I didn't insult you or even tell you that you were wrong. All I did was point out the difference between a narrator and a creator, as well as explain why taking a break from posting would possibly be a bad idea. Your snarky, juvenile response tells me that you have other issues beyond facts.
Story 3, op wasnt being racist, he was trying to protect the gf from his racist mother. He's not even trying to have his mother's back just doesn't want the gf to be around her. Op sounds more like he's developed learned helplessness which is common in children of abusive parents. So instead of actively trying to find ways to leave gma at home and go out together (which would earn him guilt tripping and drama) he feels like there's nothing he can do.
I'm also very confused as to why op's son doesn't just go to his girlfriend's house. If he wants to see her and spend time with her that much why doesn't he just go hang out with her family.
I entirely agree with this point. It sounds like the op is *genuinely* asking for help, not sympathy. It's incredibly hard to separate cold hard facts of "this persons a racist and I don't want to be around them" from "This is my mother. I lover her but I hate the shit she says, I wish she'd stop but I don't know how to make her. I feel embarrassed of the idea she'd say something terrible to someone I care about. It's better they aren't around to hear her." That's how the entire situation feels to me.
Yeah, he’s most likely trying to prevent his son’s gf from being exposed to a raging racist. What does the son think will happen if he does have dinner at OP’s place, that the mom will be well behaved and not say a single thing about the gf’s race? No, it will be awful and the gf will be put into a very uncomfortable position. He's still enabling a narcissist though. Trying to keep the peace at all costs even at his son's expense and thus inadvertedly doing her bidding. From the way the first story read, I thought it was only a couple of weeks or so to find other living arrangements, at which point I'd be arguing on OP's behalf that she was only doing something as a temporary necessity with a strict limit on it. But 6 months? Oh hell no.
Younger daughter is also the AH. I heard an update where she found out because the utilities were suddenly higher than before, and she put 2 and 2 together. I have a rescue African grey. They really are like having toddlers. They’re intelligent and emotional and can regress into bad behaviors and even physiological issues if they are neglected. They need daily and almost constant attention. I get what the step mom is feeling. It’s a huge responsibility to take on the care of a bird. I also feel for the step daughter. It would be hurtful to not have their whole family there.
First Story, YTA: OP and Adam made the agreement that no one lives in the house. I get OP wants to be their for her other daughter but Adam made his condition clear and OP went against it. Adam can and probably will go back on HIS part of the agreement for this Second Story, NAH: Its OP's choice to prioritize a bird over a wedding. However, it is understandable for the step-daughter to be upset amd feel like that Third Story, YTA: Nursing homes do exist. OP's son is right, he IS being a complacent racist. He refuses to allow his son's girlfriend to come over to accomodate his racist mother? For me Op in first story is not a ashhole. Fuck Steve in this, but her daughter would be homeless. She would be risking being beaten, raped or killed while being homeles, there were few stories on rslash where people were attacked while not having a home and OP did what every good mother would do, she took her daughter to have a safe place to stay until she finds some place to rent and better job.

With a third story, I disagree slightly. I don’t think he’s a jerk, partially, because we don’t know the full story. For one we don’t know if they can afford a nursing home and it seems to be only temporary until the mother recovers from the surgery. He’s also not excluding the girlfriend from anything else other than family dinners. It’s a hard one for me, but I lean with NTA. He seems more stuck between a rock and a hard Place on that one.
Hey Rslash - I've been mostly a lurker on your channel for a couple of years. I don't always agree with your takes, especially when they're due to missed updates and extra info, but that's perfectly fine! You're allowed to be human. I watch your videos regularly because you're consistent, you're real, and I love the occasional stories from your personal life with your wife, daughter, and Yugo. People are just super quick to get outraged if they hear something they don't agree with and go right into the comments to complain, which isn't right (yeah, I'm guilty of doing this too sometimes..). You keep doing you, you're doing great - and remember to take a break now and then too!
This is my favorite Reddit narration channel. Period. It has become more enjoyable since rslash has become a family man. Righteous indignation is nat a bad thing! That said, Malicious Compliance, the various Revenges, Entitled idiots, all the Karen stories (there are only two channels who have good Karen voice, and you're one of them) and, especially, TREE LAW, are a nice diversion from time to time. Story 3: I have no say on racism since I am as white as anyone can be. But as someone who experienced prejudice in the past, I saw it more as keeping the girlfriend from experiencing any unnecessary exposure to said harmful views. It's also why I don't particularly like having my racist family members knowing about my none white gf, sometimes keeping them away from that stuff is best. Just my pov in avoiding bringing out the prejudice in my family so I don't get burned for nothing.
I think this may have been part of it...the OP trying to prevent a scene. But eventually he needs to grow a spine and tell her mother that while he can't control what she thinks, she needs to either play nice or go to a care home. MLK once said, "Our generation will have to repent not only for the acts and words of the children of darkness but also for the fears and apathy of the children of light." Fear and apathy may not be the same as active racism, but it does just as much damage.

I think sometimes people forget that legaly and morally are two separate things. Like in the first story the parent was legaly in the wrong. However they are morally in the clear by a huge amount. Guy lost his job, the family waited as long as possible to even ask for help. Then at their lowest point the daughter calls the mom and asks for help, and she helped the only way she could. Even at the risk of losing her cushy position of a free home. Op did nothing wrong in my opinion, helping people at rock bottom at risk of themselves. Litterally being selfless.
I couldn't agree more. I'm tons of people along with myself have heard the horror stories of what it's like to be homeless, like how hard it is to get back up from that point or even just how dangerous it is. OP was trying to be a good parent in this situation by trying to help her daughter from experiencing that even at her own expense. Plus, like you said, they didn't just immediately ask for help at the beginning but asked when they had no other corners to turn to. I understand that both of the daughters' husbands don't see eye to eye, but is that really an excuse to tear the relationship between two sisters and leave one homeless just because you don't like her husband? Personally, I think that's a bit too far, but I also agree that maybe OP should have asked her son in law and her other daughter first.
Yea if that guy can afford a dozen or so property's AND can just give op a house he can and should allow the sister and husband a place to stay temporarily

If you need to take a break from the channel because some of the stories you read are starting to get to you, then do so. We will still be here when you're back, and you need to prioritize your mental health. I've been following your channel for two years now, and every day, when I see that you posted a new video, it makes me so happy, but I wouldn't want you to be miserable. You need to still find joy and meaning in your work, so don't worry about us and take all the time you need to recover, even if that means posting less videos.

We will all still be here, and it's okay to have differing opinions on stories, but if you want to continue uploading, it may be good for your own mental health to read more lighthearted subs that are more just goofy. We all really enjoy AITA stories, but it's 1000% okay to read other stuff and come back to it when you are ready.
OMG, there is more to the parrot one. OP clarified in the comments: #1 - she and stepdaughter were never close, and the stepdaughter actively tried to avoid spending time with her. #2 - The stepdaughter is expecting OP to come for a week to babysit her fiance's daughter.
As someone who worked multiple warehouses, I understand Rslash, the job (even if it's one an individual would certainly enjoy) could sometimes gets us a little less of ourselves from time to time when we think so much about it. It could get sometimes us thinking that way during personal life. Keep doing what you do best and have some well deserved rest, you don't need to apologize for anything. You're always doing your best, even when you have some bad takes. Even with those takes, there could be some truths behind it when you really think about it. That's what I noticed about your "bad" takes over the time of watching your content. Keep up the amazing job, Dabney!

I mean regardless of positive or negative comments i know full-well he puts a lot of time into predicting public opinion and i bet he has a handle on the various kinds of viewers in the audience on a gut level. I dont think he was at all surprised to make the comment. Hes been voicing this more and more recently directly over the last year, but it was kind of noticable from the get, hes not just a good orator, but also one hell of an observer. Anyway, all that to say, i think he knows how this all works as the professional and is fine, he knows he can put out something like that and reason with at least the dominant majority of his audience. He knows the community and him can just move forward easily. At the end, the point of a comment section is to leave comments. What you said goes both ways fully.
RSlash having the viewpoints he does on certain stories is what makes his stories unique and interesting to watch. Getting to read the comments and comparing the good, the bad and the interesting between storyteller and listener. Now if he starts having a standpoint that’s completely outlandish that’s when I’ll personally stop watching, but until then, one or two stories having slight differences in opinion is why I love this channel.
Nah, he started this bad trend a while ago. Blowing up at people for no reason, siding with jerks, once even called a mentally exhausted guy a wimp for not wanting to be in someone else's argument. Once, he even scolded a guy for telling his wife the truth after she asked him for his honest opinion. He even said in the story before that one that you should always be honest with your feelings. RSlash went off the deep end long ago.

Everyone has different opinions and perspectives on things. But he’s still sensible enough to not side with the human trafficking uncle or the woman who wanted to abandon her daughter to watch her severely disabled children while she went on a cruise.

Even when you're giving a bad take, at least usually the reasoning behind it makes sense, and as you've said: everyone who uploads anywhere near as much as you do is bound to have a few that don't quite pass the smell test to a lot of other people. I'd be the first to admit a lot of times from the text of the same posts on the internet, it's easy to reach completely different conclusions. I can't imagine the level of workload you give yourself, man. EDIT for grammatical error.
I just want to say as the owner of a disabled goffin's cockatoo, you can't leave these birds alone. They are very much toddlers and they need their routines and their person, the only person they trust. A lot of people can't understand how emotional these birds get but let me tell you that they get extremely emotional and extremely damaged if treated badly and it takes years and years to get them to back to being birds again. Mine was locked in a laundry room for 5 years. We've had her for a little over two years and the only person that she trust is me. I think the devotion to op's bird is loving and wonderful and the bird doesn't understand weddings. I think you're doing the right thing by putting the bird above everyone else.
The first story is pretty complicated. My initial reaction was that the couple that had the more money was being a butthole for not letting their sibling live in the house if their sibling needed to but then I remembered that some stories are written more favorably so maybe the couple that likes to blow their money is actually blowing too much money and not being more cautious with it. I do believe there's a way to blow your money without it being bad. The parent should have said something to the "corporate shill" so she is not innocent butt she did try to do a good deed.
Story one: The very final part you mention was my only hungup on it. It is 100% understandable that you want to be there for your family and help them out through a bad time. But that doesn't mean that the mother won't face consequences for this if the other SIL finds out, especially considering the update people are mentioning that his wife now also hiding this. The best course of action would have been asking the Adam if it was possible if it was under a very specific time-frame instead of trying to go behind his back. Honestly the person that annoys me the most is Steve Like he's a massive ass, even beyond living in his house. Yeah the housing market sucks, but Adam from the ability to support his MIL like this seems like a pretty cool guy, meanwhile, I do think Adam is right that Steve *does* expect handouts. Yeah "Corporate America" sucks, but he's in this situation because he refuses to work with it and are now relying on Adam to stay afloat. He has an idealistic mentality of "Use your money while you're young" without actually having any sense of plan if something goes wrong... like now.

I'm not sure why you think Steve expects handouts. If anyone, it sounds like his wife did, but also, I think it's reasonable to expect your parents to help you when you hit hard times (just as it's reasonable for a parent to expect her from their child if the parent loses a job). Also, Steve had a job that he lost. I'm not sure how that's refusing to work with it.

I’m assuming that holding onto the passport is standard practice in what they’re doing. Where I imagine things have gone wrong there was KEEPING said passport and refusing to return it.
I heard - hearsay - it is common practice for Jehovas witnesses to hold on to the passport of the people doing their "social andmissionary duty in a foreign country", not sure though.... It could just be the "community" not owning up to it and throwing the uncle under the bus... If so, OP should be ready for a lot of bs thrown his way....
Sounds like missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They always hold on to your passport for security reasons (not to control you, but to protect your passport). If that's the case, the issue here is most likely that the missionary didn't want to just admit that they wanted to quit. They are allowed to do that.
Don’t worry Rslash, we do get it. Everyone has bad days. Reading sad and negative stories so often can really start to impact your mental health and make people feel more cynical. Plus we’re all humans, it’d be really boring if everyone and everything thought the same and had the same feelings. Maybe you could end each video with a short, more uplifting, wholesome story? Or maybe one day out of the week, you go and find happy, wholesome, funny stories and read those out so it can break you out of the rut of reading so many negative stories and make you feel a bit better? Just a suggestion of course. It’s your channel, and we all enjoy listening to you read the stories.

My grandma was the same way. She was a very racist person. I was dating a black girl. We always go to her house for Thanksgiving and I told my girlfriend that I was not sure what my grandma would do if she came. I told her I'd love her to come but gave her the option to not go, to go, and we both not go and we could go out to eat together. She chose to go. I could tell my grandmother was uncomfortable in the beginning. But my girlfriend started a conversation with her. Once my grandma got to actually know her she loved NY girlfriend.

Dude, you're genuinely doing wonderfully, especially considering the content you've had to consume for almost a half decade. I might disagree with you on some things, and other times you bring up points I hadn't considered and give me something new to ponder. You have managed to create a channel that provides a chance for discourse on human behavior, which I think is pretty cool. I think that the echo chamber of AITA, Entitled People, even Malicious Compliance does genuinely affect one's worldview, and I can only imagine how much content you have to sift through to choose the stories you bring us. Maybe you could go back and revisit sillier subreddits like TIFU, TalesFrom, etc? Give a little mood boost and enjoy the silly side of humanity instead of the constant slop?

Rescue bird over step daughter wedding prep & babysitting - 1. Parrots are sensitive to stress, her leaving for even a day could stress out the bird enuf to make it sick or even die 2. Well the mom ended up calling the daughter and begging her to lie to her husband. And finally her daughter agreed. So the mom is literally risking her daughters relationship and her own housing just to enable her daughters husband that doesn't want to work. It's kinda obvious to me that Adam knows Steve and that he doesn't work. It was conveniently left out why, Steve lost his job. But my guess is that Adam knew this would happen. That the Steve would loose his job and try to move in to the house . And the mom lied to Adam and convinced her daughter to lie to him! He literally asked that people have understanding because with all the stories he does , people aren't always going to agree. And the first thing you do is hear something you don't agree with and attack him in the comments. Grossly exaggerating what he said. Jesus if you don't agree just state your opinion. I really appreciate the video opening because I feel like it's good to be reminded that this is your job and these stories can affect you! hell, they affect me as a listener/reader/viewer, but I have the luxury of taking a break from the content when I see myself get really negative and lose patience with it. I think sometimes it's easy to say I know everyone on Reddit is an individual (I really often read comments and am like "Reddit is not a monolith!!") but in my head sometimes they all start to blend together and it's sorta like. "do we really have to go over this AGAIN?" like lol these are entirely different people and I should have a little bit of calm down time. for what it's worth, even though there have been takes I've disagreed with, those are never the ones I end up taking away from the videos. I actually sometimes text my best friend quotes from some of the videos like, "ayy, love the way this guy says words."
