Maybe we can limit closed adoptions, but this scenario will always be a risk (in the US and some other countries) due to Safe Haven laws. And we can't get rid of Safe Haven because genetic info is not worth giving up our final defense against newborns being abandoned in garbage bags.

It's the now EX wanted to have all the money and be the "Rich Husband" to flaunt around especially to brag about in the Podcast (which is sexist and very misogynistic from what I've heard). And literally, be the one at the "Head Table" while doing absolutely nothing. The Wife brings home the money, cooks/cleanings, raise the kids, does everything for the kids to make sure they're well taken care of, and pays all the bills. While the EX controls everything that goes on, including what the Wife spends the money on, even though he spends it on anything that he wants. It is SO stupid! He panicked b/c he knew he wouldn't be getting anything if they broke up BEFORE the Marriage and that OP showed that she is not weak and has no problem in standing her ground.

I have to respectfully disagree. Nobody’s keeping any secrets from their partners, they both love each other deeply, and everyone is happy and healthy. Statistically speaking, the chances of bad genetics popping up in the first generation from half siblings is pretty low. Truly, what’s to be sad about? Unless OP and his wife put their own kids up for adoption, I seriously doubt that their own kids will ever get involved in a similar situation. Heck, intra-familial relationships is a very popular subject for adult material on the internet. There’s a fair chance at least one of them finds the situation arousing. Just saying.

I genuinely have no idea what I'd do in this case. Inbreeding as a taboo idea is relatively new in many parts of the world. Since the whole inbreeding thing is about who you're raised with and worries of genetic issues, I guess certain exceptions where they didn't know until it was too late kinda makes sense. When I told him I didn't think we were a good match he said "See you're trying to control the situation." lol I told him I don't need his permission to not talk to him. Fun facts relating to the first story from a biogeek: There's something called the Westermarck effect. It's basically a natural instinct to not be sexually attracted to anyone you're around a lot during the time that you're a child, especially a young child. This is why people are generally not sexually attracted to their siblings and parents, which obviously helps reduce incest between people who have never learned why that's bad. But the other factor is that in spite of the Westermarck effect, there's some evidence that people are more likely to be attracted to people who are similar to themselves - which may be a factor in, for example, why the rate of inter-racial marriage is still so low even though the stigma around that is fading out. That's more difficult to define though, and obviously there are people who are the complete opposite and are instead attracted to basically the most exotic person they can find. Still, the evidence suggests that you're most attracted to someone who is like you, but not someone who was around during your childhood. Which means that if someone is adopted from birth and unknowingly meets their birth family they may actually be more likely to be attracted to them than they would any other random stranger. In fact, this is far from the first instance of this I've heard of someone adopted finding out they married a relative. And I've also heard of people who knowingly met their birth family and said that they found them attractive - though they obviously wouldn't act on that attraction in that case. What all this means is that if you - due to adoption or some other factor - do not know who your birth family is, then it might be a good idea to get a DNA test before you decide to have kids with someone. Because that's cheap and easy these days, and you never know, and falling for someone is one thing, but making kids who might have genetic problems is another.

I am also the result of a closed adoption, and this story is a perfect example of why closed adoptions are a barbaric practice that need to end. Granted, the odds of half-siblings meeting and forming a relationship are extremely low, but at the same time, when it happens, it makes beaucoup trouble for all involved. Because I've never been able to find out anything, despite my best efforts (unsealing my records would take money I don't have), I've never felt the same as others around me. I was the only adopted kid in my classes all through elementary school (kids called me out because I looked nothing like my mom, but I didn't believe them. Then I overheard my maternal grandmother telling a friend, and my reality came crashing down around me), or in my church. Even my adoptive cousins started leaving me out at Christmas. So yeah, I've always been an outsider, unable to learn my true origins, and I've developed a passionate hatred for closed adoptions. When my late wife and I were planning to adopt, we agreed we would be open and honest with the child about it, in an age-appropriate manner, because she saw what the way I found out did to me. Instead, she passed before the adoption was completed, and the birth-mom reneged.

Hey Dabne, I just wanted to tell you that the "blood is thicker than water" is the bastardized version of the original, the original being "the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb", which basically means "those who you choose to be around mean more than those you were born to". In this context, the marriage to each other and the bond they share is more important than to who they were born from, which means the quote would still fit, just in a different meaning than you knew at the time.

It's the betas in the pack that are pushy, loud and aggressive. A true alpha keeps order through calm demeanor because the pack respects them. Just thought I would share that for all the Betas out there thinking their alphas. 😊😂😂😂

Story 1: good thing that they'll have their children genetically tested. There are some incest related diseases that you probably want to rule out. Since the parents are only half siblings, their DNA can at best be 0-50% related (and 0% for the sex chromosome, due to them being of the opposite sex and the mothers being different), but still it's the responsible thing to check this. I do think it's best if they don't have any more kids, unless adopted. From a social point of view, as long as they are okay with it themselves and no one tells anyone else in the family, there shouldn't be an issue there either, but obviously the kids will need to be told once they are older (for health reasons) and shit might hit the fan then.

This is like the second guy who was a great husband material, almost became a husband, then shot themselves in the foot.

@@lightning902 I'm happy Tate exists and the sheer amount of relationships that have been destroyed from men thinking it's a good idea to behave like that and you know why? If they're dumb enough to watch a few videos and change their entire relationship and demand "cuddling" imagine what will happen if people stayed with them longer after that change and how much more deeply rooted in their personality it will become when it's accepted, they need that reality check, maybe they'll be a better man on the other side after he rejects that nonsense from his life

I wonder if this story relates to the one from a few weeks ago where the girls family completely shut off the bf after she got pregnant and never told him

That first story… That is several pounds of Nope in a 1 pound bag. If I learned my SO was actually a long lost sibling or half sibling, that would be it. I would tell her about this of course, as I like to think there’s enough positive emotions to give her an explanation, but at that point, any and all romantic feelings would disappear and be replaced with disgust.

Here’s an uncomfortable fact. The reason you find your siblings unsexy, even if they’re supermodels, is the Westermarck effect. Anyone you’re raised with either in a sibling or parental capacity, you will find sexually uninteresting. It is a form of imprinting. The closer the relationship, the less sexy they are to you. That’s why cousin sex is gross but not as gross as sibling sex. And if you went to grade school with someone, you’re probably not into them either. What that means is there’s no automatic mechanism to find your siblings unsexy. The reason the Westermarck effect exists is disturbing: you are naturally MORE attracted to blood relatives. If you ever hear about these long lost siblings who meet fully aware of the relationship and end up having an affair, that’s why. Westermarck exists to prevent that, but it doesn’t work if you don’t meet them early in life. Think about that before you make a sperm donation.

Story 1 is why they used to have blood tests taken when you got your marriage license. My sister and her husband had to get one, because the county told then they look too much alike. My husband and I eloped, and we look a lot alike. The clerk asked us if we were SURE we wanted to go on without a blood test😅

That first story is a bit heartbreaking, but also pretty damn wholesome imo. I mean yeah incest isn't exactly ideal, but it's not the end of the world either. They already have kids together and they're taking the proper steps to make sure they grow up as happy and healthy as possible it sounds like. I wish them nothing but the best. ❤

For the first story, my guess is that the biomom's family were super religious and the moment she found out she was pregnant, the parents cut the biodad out of her life, possibly moved, and then forced her to give OP up for adoption. Meanwhile, the father, never knowing he had a son out there, met someone new and started his own family.
@thegrimharvest
@thegrimharvest 10 месяцев назад
Possible, but that also makes it even stranger than it already is. You'd think that a very strictly religious family, on discovery that their teenage daughter was pregnant, would be holding a shotgun wedding for her and the boyfriend. Not completely cutting her out of his life and moving her away completely. They must've really really disapproved of the boyfriend for one reason or another.
