I am a cis woman but I work a very physical job and work out a lot on top of that, so I have broader than average shoulders for a woman of my size. By conservative/transphobe logic, I'm obviously a man! Finally, everyone will take me seriously and respect my bodily autonomy!!!

A friend of mine grew up in a very rural town on a family farm and helped out there from a very young age doing a lot of physical labor. She also has relatively broad shoulders, smaller boobs (because less body fat) and a very trained body. Instead of being proud of that she basically learned how to hide those features with proper clothing because it is not womanly. Ironically at home she also fought with not being taken seriously enough as a fellow worker because she was a girl. So basically she had to flip flop between appearing feminine at school, so that she is "attractive" and appearing masculine at home, so that she isnt being belittled. Back then I didnt even notice she did this because it was so natural for her. Gender roles and beauty standards are a b*tch.

I constantly got asked if eggs were dairy, and it always confused me why people would think that, so I started asking them. All of them have the same reasoning: In the food pyramids they were taught as children, eggs were always in the same dairy category as milk and cheese
@rrrrrfffff
@rrrrrfffff Год назад
Also located in the same section in most grocery stores
@Xizile93
@Xizile93 Год назад
Might also be an English problem. "Dairy" is just a word with no inherent meaning and most people have to learn it from context. In German, for example, the word for dairy is "Milchprodukte", literally "milk products", so it's very obvious for everyone what is meant by it.
@me-myself-i787
@me-myself-i787 Год назад
Some people do consider eggs to be dairy, because, like milk products, they came from an animal and the animal wasn't killed to produce them. Different people have different definitions for the same word.
@NiaJustNia
@NiaJustNia Год назад
@@me-myself-i787 So I looked it up as I know the term dairy (milk products) is because the place where mammal milk is processed is called a dairy, so dairy products is literally short for products from a dairy. Apparently on old food pyramids eggs were put between meat and dairy as they are a protein. Then shops would often sell eggs and milk next to each other for decades. Somehow this perpetuated people's confusion on whether eggs were dairy. Seemingly it's all down to a decades old misunderstanding from when food pyramids were first created in the 90s and supermarkets inadvertently perpetuating the misunderstanding. They just put eggs too close to milk in the original diagram, and then people interpreted it in the way you described; dairy must mean non-lethal animal by-product, then voilà the best part of 30 years of people going "Are eggs dairy???" 😂
@lucymillard1230
@lucymillard1230 Год назад
Yep dairy means dairy products which at least used to mean it comes from a farm. Same place might make butter and cheese as well. So they got grouped together. The food pyramid predates the '90s though. It started in the '70s, think it was in the US from the '90s.

The solar panel one is EXTREMELY FASCINATING to me. You can actually get SUNBURNT when out in the snow (mostly from the sun reflecting off the snow). Just as long as it's sunny and clear, you should be getting power from your solar panels. Also rain can actually be BENEFICIAL for your solar power yield in the long run, since it can keep your solar panels cleaner. But you should probably clean the solar panels anyway.

1:58 The map is quite misleading: It shows where homosexuality is 'not illegal by law' but countries like Russia, China and Turkey - which all have LGBTQ censorship laws which are used to discriminate homosexual people's life as an individual - shouldn't be on a 'legal' list like that. Chechnya in particular (a Russian republic) - where homosexuals have been executed by the state and where its president openly says "There are no gay people in Chechnya. And if there were, they should go to Canada." - is a good reminder that people should do their research before travelling to and thereby supporting a certain country. Just because there is no law which explicitly says that LGBTQ people will be imprisoned or executed, doesn't mean that the state or society won't try to find loopholes to silence or eradicate people.

25:26 Wolf reintroduction was extremely helpful to Yellowstone. There were way too many elk in the park, so much that many elk were dying of starvation and sickness because of the overgrazing and the overpopulation. If they hadn't reintroduced wolves, the ecosystem in Yellowstone would've completely collapsed. The wolves saved Yellowstone. Wolves are a keystone species. They're an extremely important factor in the ecosystem. Without them, many things would be thrown out of balance. A ecosystem needs an efficient apex predator to keep prey populations in check and keep biodiversity. Also, wolves aren't dangerous to humans. They are extremely skittish, and the only reason they would attack is if you got too close to their den, hurt one of their family members, or if they were sick and/or starving. In the last 100 years, there has never been a recorded human death by wolf. Injuries, yes, mainly because people are stupid, but no deaths. Since the Trump admin removed wolves from the ESA, they have been under the gun in the US. Some states protect them, others lead wolf hunts in the spring and winter, when pups are born (spring) and females are expecting (winter). So, wolf *pups* are being killed when they're barely able to walk and pregnant wolves are too. It's barbaric and completely wrong and not rooted in science at all. They need to be protected.

As an English Studies major, I looked into English language teaching one year and I can say that in Europe they generally teach British English, while in South/Central America it's US English. It has to do with proximity and who people are most likely to interact with (someone from Argentina is more likely to meet US citizens and the French are more likely to meet British people). There are exceptions, such as fancy private schools in South America that teach British English and teachers in Europe who teach more American (the number of these teachers is going up because of US media being so popular), but it is what's more common. @@omegadragons321 Snrk. No, but some older forms of morphological taxonomy define a mammal as "a hairy milk producer". Obviously that falls apart because dolphins and whales are mammals and they a) don't have hair and b) I don't THINK they produce milk. But since they're warm-blooded and breathe air (and give live birth), they're mammals. Or at least I think that's the classification that qualifies them as mammals. I admit I haven't looked into it all that deeply, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

The influencer who charges "a lot of money" for posts, expects other businesses to provide their services for free. I can't with these obnoxious, self-entitled, self-proclaimed influencers. They are raking in the bucks, but want businesses to lose money so that they can make their money. There is absolutely no guarantee that a mention of the company in a post will generate any extra business for that company. And I read an article in a local community magazine (Hamilton, Ontario) where many local business owners who had provided expensive goods and services to influencers said it made absolutely no difference to their business. It's been said many times before, but when will influencers realize that they're not entitled to anything for free and companies cannot pay their bills with exposure. And I've found, over the last few years, that the things that influencers are requesting for free are getting more and more expensive...vacations, flights, hotels, entire weddings. It's ridiculous. They also love to target small boutique businesses because their product/service is niche or unique...these businesses especially can't afford to provide hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of freebies in return for nothing. Sorry for the rant. I just despise the whole concept of "influencers".

Like, I really don't understand why they teach the Brazilian dialect of Portuguese but teach Castilian Spanish instead of the Mexican dialect. Like, make up your minds, educators, are you teaching the original dialects or the more locally useful ones? Though, the result either way is that they teach you to speak overly formally and a bit archaically in some cases, so you sound off to native speakers regardless of dialect...
