Story 5 + 6: Tree Law is a serious b**ch. You mess with someone else's trees, especially rare and/or old trees, and you'll be kissing your finances goodbye once the owner finds out. I hope the fifth post's OP does succeed in the lawsuit because that tree needs justice

In many communities, trees that old are protected by law and you have to get a special permit to cut it down. Even then, permission is only if the tree is unhealthy and in imminent danger of falling down.

Story 3: Never leave children in cars in hot weather, not even for a few minutes or if the sun is covered. Vehicles are EASY ovens in hot weather, and it's pretty easy to get heat stroke. I had a Karen mom & she used to do this to my brother and I all the time bc she didnt want to have to deal with being a parent for the 5 minutes it would take to grab what she needed from inside. By the time she would come back, we would be suffering early signs of heat stroke. Almost fainted in the car seat quite a few times. It really takes almost no time at all to become a safety hazard.

A similar situation to the children in car story occurred near my local supermarket, when somebody left three large dogs in a car with the windows closed on the hottest day of the year. Announcements in the supermarket and the adjacent DIY store produced no results, and the police were called; rather than wait for them, the DIY staff brought suitable tools, the car windows were smashed, the extremely distressed dogs were removed and soaked with water to cool them. They were in poor shape, but luckily there was a vet surgery nearby, and their staff attended to the dogs (they all survived). The driver eventually came sauntering out of the supermarket with his shopping, and the manager grabbed him by the arm and dragged him to the police van that had just arrived. He is generally a nice fellow, but he was furious.

I'd argue in some ways, people are kinder now. When i was a kid in the early 2000s, people would see my brother & I in the back seats suffering from very obvious heat stroke & just keep walking. A lot of my older cousins said my aunts did the same thing to them in the 90s and 80s. Nowadays, people are more likely to intervene to save the child.

Chopping down a tree without permission, oh lordy that is going to be a hefty fine to pay, especially if the tree is considered a Heritage tree or an endangered tree. OP should sue both the Karen neighbor and the tree service as well. Because refusing to give OP the name of the company is another crime itself and possibly can be a case of fraud since they were not providing the information when requested. Plus that police officer needs to be fired for being just plain lazy or possibly bribed by Karen to look the other way.

I just want to be honest with the OP did on that first story is genius because like I always tell people of your dealing with a crazy person like a Karen and they've already called the cops on you you need to call the cops as well and give your side of the story that way the Karen just doesn't have the power to make the cops immediately pull guns on you or just push you into a car because the more you just stand there in that situation thinking the cops are going to be logical when they show up they're not going to they're going to make sure that they have every way to just get the situation out of the way because they just want to get the paperwork out of the way even if it means that they're prosecuting the wrong person and especially if you are dealing with somebody that's possibly stalking you you need to immediately call the cops either way because that person is more likely to take advantage of your vulnerability the very moment you're not on the phone with the police and I understand everybody reacts in that situation very differently but you have to fight that reaction to be scared to do something like calling the cops because that person is more likely to be frightened that you're on the phone with the police then they are going to do something and that way if you have to run your documenting where you're at and it makes it more believable to the police because sadly sometimes they don't want to believe people because of the fact that they're going to look at it like well why did you decide to do this last minute like getting us involved when you say you're in danger and I've seen this happen to so many friends and that's why you always tell them ahead of time try to have as much contact with the police as you can that way if you are in danger though believe you because you know who are they going to deny believability to that's literally huffing and puffing over the phone trying to tell them exactly what's going on maybe that's just me but that's what I always advice to people so good on the OP for doing that

I worked at Subway for about two months in college (yes, I lasted two months. Working for Subway was a terrible idea. But that’s a whole other bag of worms.) There has always been some kind of option for extra of double meat on subs. When I worked there, it nearly doubled the price of the sub to double the meat and cheese, because that’s where the money is. Well, this man looked right at the menu, saw the double meat option, I told him it would be an upcharge, and I made him a double meat sandwich. When we get to the register and I remove my gloves and ring it up, he starts trying to throw a fit about his sandwich costing more than the original. I explained again that yes, doubling the protein does cost extra. Right then my roommate and best friend, who also worked there, showed up for her shift. The time clock was on the register, so she came up behind me and said hello but stayed back a few steps to let me finish. He looked at her like she was poo on the bottom of his shoe and then made a shooing motion with his hand and literally said, “shoo shoo!” I said, “sir she’s waiting to clock in for her shift.” But then my friend took over and was bolder than I’d ever seen her before. “I’m waiting to clock in for my shift. Yes, double meat does cost more, as she said. If you don’t like that, we can make you another sandwich with the regular amount.” I think he may have thought she was a manager then because he shut up, paid, and left.

Instead of disciplining my brother, she would leave us both alone in a hot car to escape the responsibilities of parenting. It was never just 5 minutes. If we were lucky, it was 10 minimum. Even in New England, 10 minutes was often all it took for my brother and I to start developing signs of heat stroke. I'm legitimately shocked I never fainted in the back of a hot van, but I came extremely close many times. "I was only gone for 5 minutes" is never an excuse. 5 minutes is all it takes in that level of heat to jeapordize your child's safety.

Story 2: The same happened to me while I was working on a pc shop. A guy, who was an acquaintance of my boss showed up. He bought stuff around 383.4 euro (I do not remember the cost) amd he gave me 500 euro bill (it was around 10 years ago) When I gave him the change he noticed that they were 0.5 euro short. He started screaming that I am stealing his money, calling me names etc... My boss came and asked what is the matter and that jerk started all over. In the end my boss took a 2 euro coin from the register and told him to take his money and gtfo. He grabbed the coin and he left. He never came back...

@balanc-joy9187

A lot of Karen-types are too arrogant to think they could make that sort of mistake, so they must be right and everyone else is wrong. It reminds me of a couple of other stories. One was where a Karen went to a public heated pool, and it was _CLEARLY_ shown on signs _not_ to have very young children in the water, as the multitude of people makes it a breeding ground for bacteria and the heat can potentially hurt or even kill them, and this woman had her baby _under the water entirely_ to "warm her up" and when confronted by a staff member, she screeched that "IM THERE MOTHER, IF I SAY IT'S OKAY THEN IT'S OKAY!! I'M NOT GONNA BE TOLD WHAT TO DO BY SOME STUPID POOL RULE!" and the rule is actually enforced by the _State_ so the Karen was wrong about that too. The second story had a Mom take her kids out for ice cream, and the man working the register told the Mom to pick a different ice cream for her kid, since the one she picked had bubble-gum pieces in it which are a choking hazard. She spent a while arguing over the price while the kids enjoyed their ice cream, but when the ice cream guy saw the girl again, she was suffocating on the bubble-gum and was "as blue as her ice cream". Luckily, the girl was given CPR and the gum was dislodged, while the Karen-mom _tried to stop them from "assaulting" her baby girl_ and called the police on them. The police didn't believe the mother considering her daughter's condition, and the cameras clearly showed what really happened. The father, who had been waiting in the car, came rushing in during the commotion and when he was informed what had happened, he went OFF on the mother, rightly so. It sounded like the mother had had lesser incidents before with being uncaring towards the children. This also reminds me of a _third_ story where a woman goes into a chocolate shop with her son, and didn't believe the person at the counter that some of the chocolate had nuts in it, and basically swiped some to give her son, who _was allergic to nuts_ Thankfully, she had an Epi Pen and the paramedics arrived quickly. There was another story I almost remember, but I can't think of it off the top of my head. Suffice to say, this kind of thinking is common among Karens. They are too spoiled and selfish to understand that life is _dangerous_ and their children might die or get hurt because of their negligence. Their thoughts are mostly about their own convenience and routine, which is why being told what to do or disturbed in any makes them so angry.

The clincher on the last one was her admitting to deliberate action by sending the bill, firmly linking her to the tree cutting. That sealed her fate, and also the damages would include the cost of the lumber stolen as well, at whatever price they could find for that age redwood currently for sale, and the entire volume of the tree. That probably exceeded the value of the house alone, let alone any fines and tree replacement costs.

A lot of fast food places have a policy of not accepting large bills unless the total warrants it. I worked at Burger King for a few month quite a few years ago. They wouldn't take anything over a $20 bill unless the order was for more than $20. There are 2 reasons for this. First off, people using large bills on small orders is often just them making change for something else without bothering going to a bank like a sane person. This can leave the till short of smaller bills needed for other customers. The second, and most important, issue is that some of the people that did this were laundering counterfeits. They would try to use a fake $100 bill to pay for a $1 item and walk away with $99 in legitimate cash. Fast food workers aren't trained to spot counterfeits, so the whole thing is cut off at point-of-sale policy.

Story #5: I'm not sure what the laws in the UK say, but where I live, cutting down a tree that old is actually illegal (except in emergency cases). So, on top of paying for damages, the neighbors would also face a serious fine. And with proof of malicious intent they could even go to jail over this. Story #2: It doesn't directly relate, but this story reminded me of a case I witnessed that basically went the other way round: At my local supermarket, the lady in front of me at the checkout had her whole cart loaded full of groceries, which added up to a total of €98.60. She then produced a big pile of small bills from out of her purse, counted it once, counted it twice, then handed it over to the cashier. The cashier then counted the money again and came up with €95. When the cashier asked for the remaining money, the lady instead took the pile back and pulled out a €100 bill. Wouldn't it have been a lot easier to pay with the big bill in the first place?

I used to work at Kmart, and there was a crazy guy that we begged our manager and security to ban from the store. They refused. He would get into loud arguments with invisible people, had tried to pick physical fights with customers on many occasions and even followed them to their vehicles. He verbally assaulted workers and threatened us and everything. Management would NOT ban him. Finally, one day he brings up a box of brownies off of our $0.99 shelf. They rang up $1. Before I had a chance to override it or anything, he started freaking out on me. Like, threatening my physical safety and my life over that one penny. He had me backed up against the wall behind me, as I was on the register that had the locked case of cigarettes. I seriously thought he was going to hurt me. He finally let me override his brownies and left, but I would always try to hide and pretend I was busy whenever I saw him after that. A few weeks later he slapped another cashier friend of mine across the face. Nothing was done and he was STILL allowed in the store. I'm really glad Kmart went out of business, they deserved it for not giving a single sh*t about their employees.

Kids in car story: Unfortunately, it happens multiple times every year. Some "busy, know it all" parent leaves their kid(s) in a car in very high temperatures for "just a few" minutes. All too often it turns out bad for the kids. I suspect in this case the assault charges came from the video the cops watched. You and your friends did good OP. Dialysis story: And that is the other reason you don't go grabbing strangers. You don't know what kind of health they are in and what type of damage you may be doing to them.
