My eldest daughter, R, was born with a hole in her heart. She was a month premature, and very tiny, too. When she was about 2 months old, I finally was able to get her in to a great pediatric cardiologist we had been on a waiting list for. The intake nurse went over all of her history/symptoms with me, and I told her that R would sleep about 18-20 hours a day. I ALSO told her that I would wake her every 3 hours for a feeding, changed her diaper as soon as she was dirty, and bathed her every night. Finally, the Dr came in, checked her out, and said, other than her heart, she was very healthy. He explained that R sleeping so much was normal for what was going on with her because she was finishing developing internally, and not to worry about it. She would start being awake more and more over the following months. Two days later, I get a knock on the door while I'm feeding R, so I open it while still feeding her. It was CPS. The lady looked at me and said "well, I can see the charge of starvation isn't true." The intake nurse called CPS saying I was neglecting and starving my child!!! I called R's Dr immediately after, and he was so furious that he started yelling "Of all the stupid!.... If she was so worried, she should have just asked me! She's going to end up scaring people away from getting the help their kids need because they'll be afraid they'll be taken away!"...... That nurse was never there again at any of R's monthly visits, and the CPS case was closed.

That sounds like a HIPAA violation if the nurse was able to trace down your address and have CPS come to investigate, and given that they didn't even have the full knowledge about your daughter's condition nor informed the doctor about their concern they absolutely acted out of line in every possible sense. I hope the doctor held the nurse accountable in your stead and had their medical license revoked, because there's nothing more worrying than someone working in the medical field being willing to break apart families over mere assumptions.

Yeah, but OP can explain it to the little girl. It won't make it suck less, for sure, but I had a similar situation when I was little and that's how my dad handled it. I remember he was really on my level and told me that he knew I liked that friend BUT I needed to not play with her anymore because her parents were making up lies about me and my family to try to get me taken away. And I remember he pointed out that if she got her way, I'd never see him or my brother or my mom ever again and I'd have to live with strangers who probably wouldn't take care of me. So while it sucked, and I was sad, especially since I had next to ZERO friends, I wanted to stay with my loving family more than I wanted to be friends. The story about Karen calling CPS on OP really ticked me off! How does someone pretend to be your friend and then potentially wreck your life and in the process destroy the friendship built between her child and yours? I would follow the lawyer's advice and make excuses as to why my child can't go over to their house, but her child is welcome to come to our house to be showered with love, kindness, respect and taught empathy for others. And when both children are grown into adults and out of their respective houses but before grandkids enter the picture, I would let Karen and the whole neighborhood know as to why she is such a hateful b****that would take pleasure in seeing others suffer.

Do these Evangelicals also freak out about Christmas trees or Easter eggs? Or the fact that both holidays’ dates are based on the winter solstice and spring equinox? My guess is that she was used to being able to get drinks for her kid, and the laws around alcohol being more lax, and as such when she found the location to be so strict with the rules, she was caught off guard, since she’s so used to Wisconsin state laws.

I was thinking the same thing as a Texan. And to be fair, the bartender was kind of a bit harshly seemingly impolite about it by just snatching the drink out of the woman’s hands practically and not just saying something in a calm and more firm but professional tone like (and while slowly moving the drink away like a bartending drink-disappearing magician whilst they’re distracted by the talking……), “Ma’am, I would like to remind you that as per our liquor license and the laws of the state of California, it is illegal for your not-yet-over-21yr-old daughter to consume alcohol on this property. If you find this objectionable, you may speak to whomever you want to confirm what I’ve said to you and I would be more than happy to serve you ladies with two cocktails and a mocktail for your lovely daughter as well.” Or something like that…… obviously in my mind I was saying that last sentence in a politely smarmy smiling fuck you kind of way because that is the only level of “politeness” she is clearly entitled to based on her obvious adult tantrum behavior that I can only imagine was just getting warmed up…….. 😬😵‍💫🤢😈 I do not envy these people that have to deal with that kind of batshittiness on a daily basis and Lord help me because I would not have their saintly patience for a second!!!!!!!!!!!!! ps- I would also like to add that I am primarily encouraging that type of approach instead too only for the simple fact that it will both leave you absolutely immune to any slanderous crazy accusations by ole Kare-Kare but also simultaneously make her inwardly enraged that she knows she can’t actually justifiably accuse you (with a “legitimate” complaint or whatever) of ACTUALLY doing anything wrong or being “horribly rude” (or whatever she said) about it either and that just makes his job 60% easier and 100,000% more enjoyable lolololol 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣

HOLY SHIT I was literally gonna comment about how my parents insist that my name is Bethany and NOT Beth even though I've been called Beth for a long time 😂 Ironically, with the sequential story, being pagan and what a person calls me is a very accurate way to know what type of person someone is and how I should behave around them. Like, if someone calls me Bethany I know to act more "professional" and stick to more mundane topics. Or depending on how someone reacts to the paganism, I know whether or not they'll be a good friend and be willing to get to know my "true" self. I was raised in a conservative Christian middle/ upper class environment so as a neurodivergent bisexual pagan I learned very early on how to adjust my behaviour based on the situation partly for my own safety. I don't think you really need to "unlearn" this skill. It's still useful, even for a non-pagan cis person. For exemple, if you get a new job and everyone starts calling you "Bethany", that means they want a professionnal work environment ; if they call you "Beth" you can be more relaxed and outspoken. I'd say it's more dangerous in the adult world to not know how to read the room and start acting super informal in a formal setting than knowing when to act how. 2:41 Something that came to my attention recently... The Queen was technically the leader of the Church of England, using the line "Defender of the faith" as part of their oath. The Church of England is a Christian faith. The queen did support the idea of coexist to the point that she changed her oath to "Defender of the faith, all faith, and none.", not only accepting(As in, they can coexist) other religions, but also accepting Atheism. That basically means, that at the very least the English sect of Christianity, very much does support the message of that sticker.

“How would you respond to this?” I’d mind my own f**king business. Also that mother’s day karen reminds me. Once at work I was cleaning the bottle room so the room was shut down. This woman and her adult son walk up and ask if they could come in. I said “no we’re closed for another twenty minutes.” And she whines and goes “but it’s mother’s day!“ I looked her dead in the eye and said “and my mom’s in Vermont visiting my aunt.” (She was spending her first mother’s day after her husband had passed and my mom wanted to be up there for emotional support)

That CPS story had me shaking my head. I actively encourage my kids to get dirty when playing outside. We make puddles and mud for them to play in. They swim then immediately play in the dirt afterwards. They also drink from the hose, play on their scooters and run on the sidewalk with no shoes on, get scrapes, bumps and bruises... You know, things kids should be doing. We also live in a cluttered but clean house full of toys, books, Legos, dolls, art supplies, etc., they are fed meals and snacks, get showers/baths almost every night (or we just hose the mud off and call it good once in a while), and fight. THIS IS ALL NORMAL. The CPS caller is UNHINGED if she makes her kids live like they're part of a museum exhibit.

My dad’s name is Greg. His side of the family, which we try not to associate with, refuse to call him anything but “Gregory.” Since it’s his legal name it’s also how he signs any documents that require signatures. A couple of years ago he realized that anytime he signs his name he subconsciously separates “Greg” from “ory.”

My favourite firefighter stories are the ones where the fighters smash out the windows of cars blocking hydrants, and passing their hoses through the car. Next favourite is when a firetruck just pushes cars out of the firelanes to get access. The latter favourite is the fact that the car owners are billed for any damage to the firetruck.

The funny thing about that last story, is that this Karen does not realize that most atheists were once Christians but fell out of the faith after finding many, many, maaaany things wrong with the book (and religion) that they once based their lives on. Hell, there is one who does a live talk show out of Austin who wanted to become a priest, and the the priest that was gonna be responsible for testing him told him to "read the book, cover to cover". Of course, he did so. That got him to question many things (especially the discrepancies and contradictions), and that led him down a long road to where he is today.

I think the issue is that I think less christians would turn atheist if christians in this country and others werent conforming to their worst possible abusive sterotypes, and shunning people that, frankly, the bible doesnt even shun to begin with. Now, of course, some would still leave due to having doubts in the bible, but at least in those situations they'd leave on (hopefully) amicable terms, but I think many ex-christians leave from negative pressures and harsh means, and want to dissociate with a faith that, due to the abuse, they only feel MORE inclined to find a sham now.

CPS ( and our Canadian equiv) are a strange batch, mostly due to the "complaints." I remember one time when my son was younger, he was diagnosed with Autism and ADHD. We randomly got a visit from our CPS because a teacher called in a complaint. Apparently the issue was that he was "TOO well behaved" at school one day and they assumed we were over medicating him.

About the 5th story (EM + underage drinker) what's really interesting to me is that she mentions driving up to Eau Claire after flying in from LA. As a Wisconsinite, I'm pretty sure this is Wisconsin we're talking about, and that she likely drove up to Eau Claire from MKE (or a smaller airport that's closer). If this IS Wisconsin, some interesting context is that Wisconsin state law has a (kind of controversial) statute that allows parents to give alcohol to their underage children at their discretion (as long as they're present). When it comes to bars, it's the bartender's/business owner's discretion as to whether or not they'll serve underagers. Most bars don't want the liability and won't do it, so I'm not surprised that this particular bar has a policy against it. My parents always believed in being the ones to teach my sister and I how to drink responsibly, so I have a lot of experience with this since I'm still under 21. I understand why Karen thought she could buy her 20-year-old daughter a drink, but I really don't get why she was so shocked and upset when the answer was no. Like I said, more often then not (in my experience) that's the case, and trying to get around it sneakily is obviously grounds to get thrown out, as rules are rules. Anyway, just thought the context could be as interesting to other folks as it is to me. She's (possibly) not entirely a moron who think she's above the law, she's just a run-of-the-mill Karen who can't stand to hear the word "no" if I’m right.

8:13 I've said this in another video featuring this story, but simply having artwork of the Norse god Thor's hammer, Mjölnir, does NOT mean the person hates God. Nor does having it make the person Satanic. 12:29 + 14:27 I can definitely see how the Karen could be trigger-happy with the CPS because of the attention. Honestly, taking the "eternally busy" route is the smart idea. I hope that Karen gets her karma because OP is never letting that go

Right. And it's not one's beliefs that determine whether they're qualified to be in the medical field...rather the years and years of studying at the university... As for the CPS story, the only tough part for OP would be to tell her daughter to not hangout with the neighbour's daughter anymore and she's also no longer welcome at their house.

I actually have a similar story to the Andrew/Andy thing. In our family we have a horrible Aunt no one likes named Patricia and she has always gone by Pat. We also have a younger family member named Patrick that no one calls Pat specifically because Aunt Patricia has given such a bad association with that nickname. Key difference here being that Patrick doesn't like the name Pat either and always insists on his real name being used.

I can't even begin to describe how disappointing it is that people use their faith like a cudgel, a weapon to harm and desecrate rather than, oh I don't know, a comfort? A support? Idk, I never could understand how some theists think it's okay to persecute others.

"Big Mistake" NO, no it is not, you did NOTHING wrong, I'm tired of these OPs saying "big mistake, mistake number one, mistake number three" whenever they do the right thing. Who CARES if the other person is gonna react like a damn freak about it? You are NOT making a mistake, God, I know its not a big deal, but this is one of my nitpicks when reading these stories. The Slavery Thing: Oh my God, I'm TIRED of these conservatives whining about how we tell the cold hard truth of slavery in America. All we're doing is talking about history, HISTORY, and our ancestors have done some awful things. Just because we call out the evils of our ancestors doesnt mean we're shaming our entire bloodline, country, or race over it. Goodness gracious...
