r/F-youkaren Do Karens hate everything? I mean, who hates T-Rexes? I thought it was a universal law that everybody had to love T-Rexes. They may be the coolest animal to have ever existed. Well, this Karen decides that a giant T-Rex statue in a McDonalds parking lot is an affront to her sensibilities and it must be removed at any cost. What do you think? Should the T-Rex stay up, or should we feed the Karen to the T-Rex is some sort of ritualistic sacrifice?

exactly, what if she had been unemployed for a while, or just starting out or hell, maybe she left her last job because they stopped paying properly. the way the Karen wrote it out, it sounded like the employee approached it was perfect and very respectfully (not that any respect was needed at that point) and you know they would be writing it to make it sound worse.

If that Tuscon lady thinks that a statue of a T-Rex is "blasphemous" then she'd really freak out with this story: sometime around 1970-ish, the American Museum of Natural History decided to remodel its cafeteria. The remodel included decorative windows. My father made stained glass windows for it, which featured somewhat stylized or abstract dinosaurs. I'm not sure of the details here, whether the museum actually commissioned him to make them, or he made them hoping they'd buy them or what the deal was supposed to be, but they did not use the windows he made. So now he was stuck with these stained glass windows (as best I can remember, I think there were about 4 of them, about 3' x 8', something like that). Anyway, a couple of years later the church he was a member of did a remodel, and since he had these stained glass windows available, he donated them and they were installed into the building. So ever since, there's this church with stained glass windows featuring dinosaurs!

My daughter had a teacher in 5th grade who had a sign reading, “Respect... you have to give it to get it.” Then she treated my undiagnosed ADHD 10-year-old like garbage, being sarcastic, giving her no help, taking her lack of focus personally and sneering at her in front of the class for it, acting like a saint around the adults. I told my kids after that, that there’s levels to respect. There’s a fundamental amount everyone gets as a human being, the respect you give because you want the same yourself. There’s respect for authority, which isn’t worship, but which you give largely in self-defense. And there’s the respect you can earn or lose, trust that can be destroyed and should be earned in order to be kept. The teacher abused her authority and lost her right to it... just like her sign said. She didn’t give it. So she deserved none in return outside of the basic respect due to all people. Even convicted murderers get that. Where does that place this teacher? Also... I mean, I’d find it annoying if an Amazon driver blasted music for five minutes outside my house, but the warpath response was overkill. And a pastel rainbow handmade gift for a baby? Sounds super cute and that mom doesn’t deserve it. It is absolutely possible to be a conservative Christian and still recognize that kids like rainbows. Gay people aren’t trying to steal all rainbows. Like you said, they have a very specific one. A pastel 3 or 4 color gradient isn’t it. And finally... when I hear “Waverly Hills” I think of the famous creepy abandoned sanitorium in Kentucky, and that Karen did nothing to change that mental image.

The first manager is real life Eric Cartman: "Respect my authoritaaah!" Also, the HR or payroll can't really do this, but they should "accidentally" not pay that manager for a couple of months and when he gets agitated, they should tell him it's not the company's problem that he hasn't handled his personal finances well. The problem is that he wouldn't see the connection or the irony in it.

I case your curious this was written in a dear Abby sort of forum for managers and workplaces. This was the response: I’m going to say this bluntly: you are very, very wrong about this situation, both as a manager and as a human Your company messed up, and their mistake impacted someone’s income. That’s a very big deal. The payroll department handled this exactly as they should: they apologized, cut her a check immediately, and helped repair the damage their mistake had caused. Jane shouldn’t have to suffer for their error, and their remedies were appropriate and warranted. Your objection to this because the company shouldn’t be responsible for Jane’s finances is nonsensical. Your company is responsible for paying the wages they’ve agreed to pay in the timeline they’ve agreed to pay them in. They didn’t meet that obligation, and so they fixed it. That’s not about them being responsible for Jane’s debts; it’s about them being responsible for adhering to a legal wage agreement and treating an employee well after failing at a basic responsibility and causing that person hardship. Suggesting that someone who needs the paycheck they earned to be delivered to them on time “didn’t prioritize her bills or save smartly” is wildly out of touch with the reality of many people’s finances in this country and how many people live paycheck to paycheck (particularly someone entry-level who just started a job two months ago and may have been unemployed before that). But frankly, even if Jane didn’t save smartly, it’s irrelevant; your company’s mistake is what caused the problem, and it’s what’s at issue here. Your speculation that Jane might be lying about her financial situation is bizarre and reflects poorly on you. It’s irrelevant and you don’t seem to have any reason for wondering that other than an apparent desire to cast Jane in a bad light. You’re absolutely right that there’s a respect gap in this situation - but it’s from you toward your employees, not from Jane toward her employer. There’s nothing disrespectful about Jane advocating for herself and explaining that she’d be unable to stay in the job if the payroll mistakes weren’t corrected. She gets to make that choice for herself, it’s not an unreasonable one, and it’s not disrespectful for her to spell it out. In fact, I’d argue it’s actively respectful since respect requires clear, polite, direct communication and she gave you that. When you say Jane doesn’t seem to understand she’s entry-level and not in charge … Jane is very much in charge of where she’s willing to work and what she will and won’t tolerate. Every employee is, regardless of how junior or senior they might be. Corporate power structures require deference in things like decision-making on a project, but not the sort of obeisance in all things that you seem to be looking for. Somewhere along the way, you picked up a very warped idea of what employees owe their employers, but you don’t seem to have thought much about what employers owe their employees. You urgently need to do some rethinking and recalibration if you’re going to continue managing people.

And they have failed at that, so it is their responsibility to make up for it in the way they did. Every time I read/hear a story about this I have to ask myself: are there really people who believe this is okay? And I don't mean moneybags the financial planner here. @@nerida3347 I can imagine some of the kids who have more religious parents even crying. Being told you have to be a good kid because Jesus died for you and then being told you aren't good enough because...you celebrate a holiday where the extent of the tradition is just, dress up as a princess/superhero/whatever and ask for some candy? Awful. It's not like most kids go around throwing a tantrum on people's doorsteps, and if they did, so what? They are a little child who hasn't learned full emotional control yet, the worst thing they could do to you is be a bit loud? This lady could've just kept her lights off and not answered the door, it's not exactly common for a kid/parent to keep knocking if no one answers. Most kids are thankful even if you're the tool that gives them a toothbrush or an apple. Yeah I'm sure the kid is gonna enjoy the apple that was jostled around in a bucket/bag and ends up badly bruised, and I'm sure they'll find it super useful to end the night with multiple brand new toothbrushes and they will definitely use all of them. Kids are often excited even for "old people candy" or knockoff brands, heck I've seen someone run out of candy and give a quarter, and the kid is stoked because that seems like a lot of money to them. Christians being upset about Halloween is just stupid, knowing they haven't looked into the pagan origins of Christmas. There is practically nothing "devilish" about modern Halloween other than some costumes being scary and some teens egging/tping people's house. Even horror movies aren't Halloween exclusive. If you're upset about a holiday that doesn't hurt anyone, just don't celebrate it. Don't make others, ESPECIALLY children, feel bad for doing something harmless.

Someone volunteering in a soup kitchen is just as valuable to society (in the economic sense, and in many people's opinion, in the moral sense) as someone who gets paid to make soup in a restaurant. People usually either say that towards jobs they personally think are not valuable (technology jobs were considered stupid by older people quite a lot, even in today's times) or that they think are risky. But they have to understand that while there may be risk in certain jobs, there's technically risk in any job. An injury might end an athletes career but your cushy finance job can disappear just as easily for any reason, even just your boss decides they don't like you. It's also often heard from people who are simply jealous, because they assume the other person's job is easy. I'm the team leader, and I went to my supervisor to advocate for an employee that works at a separate branch (they're in the process of moving to our branch). This employee hasn't been paid for two months. I kindly told my supervisor about it and said that the employee likes working at our company, but she's considering leaving if she continues to have financial issues. We need her, so her quitting would put us in a bind. The accountant has been dicking the employee around, so I'm completely on her side, and was asking that she should be paid immediately. It's a miracle she hasn't reported our company to the labor board. My supervisor was taken aback that the employee was upset about not getting paid. Like, she was really upset with the employee's "attitude". I just said, "Personally, I would have quit already, that employee is really patient." I work in Korea as a teacher and our ability to stay in the country is dependent on our employers, so when there are issues you have to approach them really delicately. I've been here for 5 years already and have little left to lose, so I've been raising hell, within reason.

Just because you worked in one store does not give you insight into other stores policies.

15:56 okay this pisses me off SO MUCH. I just (as in, two hours ago) completed my FIRST baby blanket in crochet. It's nowhere near as nice as this one. And I showed a picture of it to my friend who I made it for, and his reaction? He was SO EXCITED and gushing. It took me a week to make doing it for hours each day. I'm really proud of it considering the last time I completed anything other than a hat or scarf was well over five years ago. Frankly, I'm impressed with OP's work; OP could get a TON of money for that beautiful blanket. When I was six, my brothers' nanny made me a blanket out of crochet. I still have it two decades later, in my memory bin, and if I wasn't worried about my kitten chewing it I'd still use it daily.

@cory6266 2 года назад
The thing with that one is, a state issued ID does not belong to you, it belongs to _the state._ That's why it's legal for police to demand to see it, the 4th amendment does not apply.
@arnoldfossman1701
@arnoldfossman1701 2 года назад
@@cory6266 Actually none of the first 10 amendments apply to personnel in a private business they all have to do with what the government is allowed to do: You Tube doesn't have to allow us anything under the first. Churches and stores do not have to allow us attendance with our firearms under the second. Stores and other businesses have no solders and even if they did are not required to allow you any protections under the third. Businesses are not the government and are therefore not bound by the forth. I will also add that as far as I know the police have to have a reason (probable cause) to ask to see ID, see Florida law referred to below: [You are only expected to identify yourself to Florida law enforcement officers (police officers and Sheriff's deputies, not immigration or FBI agents) when you are stopped on suspicion of a crime or a traffic violation. If you don't have identification documents, you may choose to remain silent.] Notice the last part, I'm willing to guess that it's that way in most states. ACTUALLY the first 10 amendments to the Constitution Of The United States Of America while commonly referred to as "the bill of rights" actually talk about what the government has no right to do, and therefore should possibly be thought of as "the bill of no rights".

With the ID story, I was working in a liquor store for years, and then they put up a policy to check all IDs so we can put them in the computer. So... SO many people got so pissed off over showing it and said "we wont be coming back here." I was like "ok, go, there will be collage kids that will replace you and your funds in a heart beat." Its just a quick show, some numbers and then your off. the only one making a big deal of it was people that sit there and make it a problem. One customer sat there and made excuses for a while, holding up the line, then finally pulled it out and handed it to me, saying "Now that I waisted your time, don't waist mine by asking for this again." And here I was thinking "Dude, I get paid by the hour to do this. All you did was waist your time and the time of everyone behind you." But I guess he proved his point, as pointless as it was.

I think the rainbow blanket thing is because of this. "A rainbow baby is a name coined for a healthy baby born after losing a baby due to miscarriage, infant loss, stillbirth, or neonatal death. The name “rainbow baby” comes from the idea of a rainbow appearing in the sky after a storm, or after a dark and turbulent time." -google I have seen people using a rainbow blanket, baby hat, ect. to show their baby is a rainbow baby.

First story, if you can’t handle the fact that an employee has a problem being paid and is going through hoops to get it corrected and you’re complaining about it, maybe you should be replaced as a manager. And for the story regarding providing ID to purchase beer, it’s a very real possibility that the employee and company could end up in hot water if they allow someone to purchase beer/wine/liquor to someone under legal age. While I don’t know about other states, I am aware that NYS would randomly send people to check stores to see if they can buy alcohol with an underage ID. My company has a policy similar to the one in the story and while it does add minor time to checking out, it’s not worth having someone lose their job over
