My grandmother is 86 and counting. She is a great example of how being old is not a fucking excuse. She was born during war time. Grow up during war time. Survived not one but two dictatorships in our country And I never saw her disrespecting a single soul in my entire life. Even the thing she does not understand or is absurdly new to her. My last living grandparent, my paternal grandma, died back in (I think) 2013 and the only issue I would've had with coming out to her if she were alive is the fact that she either needed stronger hearing aids, or they needed new batteries because damn, we had to damn near shout. The worst part is that it seems none of these Karens are aware that "essential" in "essential oils" refers to the scent, not to being essential for health. It means they may help or at least have a calming effect when you SMELL them, not even snorting, just smelling them. It's like aromatherapy, not like olive oil for eating or sunscreen for skin! (I think a lot of them even say on the papers that it's dangerous to do that)

I live in an unconventional family with a father stuck in a wheelchair because he has no nerves in his legs, a mother who has several medical conditions on top of getting surgery and me having autism and adhd, I understand a lot of what I have wrong and I try my best to improve my situation because even though it’s a mess it’s just a mess, and messes can be cleaned no matter how tough. The house is paid for despite one person going to work with all their issues and the other quitting because he has child safety concerns. I think this is a major sign of insecurity and possibly mental problems as your own blood should fear the idea of you "leaving this world". I would consider consulting someone that you trust and your mother respects, but won't tell on you to your mother, if you need to. Having someone you can talk to is a great stress reliever. A youth pastor(ess) is normally a good start as they can help or lead to someone more skilled and are cheaper than a therapist.

Update: I have moved out! And I'll work in a cafe in a week! My mom still sometimes calls me and with a very angry and resigned tone asks why I haven't called her even though I said many times that I would call her max. once a week or two. She tries to lecture me when I remind her about that but now I have the freedom to hang up without expecting a yelling. I feel anxious when I hear someone's keys or the doors closing/opening because my mind jumps straight to when I still lived with my mother but it's getting better. I'm finally living.

I ride horses, and we have a saying that should be applied to all creatures, including humans. If you teach with fear, there will always be something they fear more than you. If you teach with trust they will look to you when they are scared. It's not that hard people. And I don't let my animals run all over me either. If my 1400lb animal tried to bite me, you better believe he's going to get smacked. Once. No expression change from me. No lasting yelling. No after effects. I am very clear on what they can and can't do so there is no fear of me exploding for something they didn't know they did. And I don't smack other animals, I discipline in their language. Horses kick each other for corrections. Dogs growl and roll their disrespector. Cats hiss and sometimes bop the other cat. But you notice they don't prolong the punishment. Rewarding as soon as they try anything good, ignoring everything else, correcting when the behavior could be dangerous. It's not hard, it's not complicated, it is nature.

So it's good in the long term... Yay that makes me feel better (not really)

Don't forget the crippling fear of disappointment being ashamed for anything and everything you do. I'm especially ashamed for being so good at lying and making myself look much busier/better than I am. I know lying is wrong. I'm trying to be better. But it's so hard to not immediately, instinctively default to those sweet little "white lies" as soon as I'm in a situation where I believe someone could be disappointed in me. It doesn't even have to be something bad. And for the most part, my imagination is far worse than reality. I will lie about the smallest things, just because I don't like the way it actually is. It's so hard to be honest, including about my emotions, when all I've been taught growing up has been that honesty is a weakness, and weakness will get me punished.
