Story 4: OP was willing to sacrifice some of their productivity so other employees could have a fair shot a bonus, and the new boss decided to shut that down. Sure, he was under pressure from his boss, but still. Good thing that OP showed how it would hurt the team

I'm always reminded of the movie big, with the scene about not making others look bad by getting too much done. It's kinda true in that if you go all out 100%, employers think that's your basic 50-60% effort.

Story 1: I hate it when some places have a spineless manager who doesn’t stick up for their staff (when they’re in the right) against rude customers. It’s why some people never learn to be polite to retail/hospitality staff. There’s always one place that will STILL give them a refund/make them new food/apologise/let them have their own way 🙄

And it's that one business that will set the standard for _all_ others with these stuck-up grunts who were never told no during their entire childhoods. It's become an epidemic across all work industries, not just for retail and restaurants but also even communal services like schools, hospitals and emergency response. The less these people get punished for their entitlement, the more they will continue doing what they do until they cross someone who's egotistic enough to respond to their behavior with violence. As modern civilizations, we've failed to enforce baseline parental disciplining required to be deemed progressive and empathic, and now we not only suffer the consequences through entitlement and illogical hypocrisy but also revert to extremist conservative values. It's so bad that people can't tell right from wrong anymore, lacks respect and rationality, and even casually brush off serious issues as hoaxes or jokes/pranks.

This has the same energy as the trashy women who says how they want something, gets upset about when their BF's buy it for them, then goes on social media to rant about it for all their friends to see. That's some despicably manipulative and gaslighting behavior. Such widespread and weaponized entitlement should be criminally punishable, and the way it isn't already says a lot about our governance. It's no wonder that racism, sexism and victim blaming is still such a common issue - we're basically regressing on a social level.

It's like that story I've heard of a cruise ship corporation that dumps all their garbage into the ocean, and the fines they get are actually cheaper than disposing of their garbage the legal way. All that's done is enabling their environmental pollution so they could make an even greater profit. Ideally they should be forced to pay the legal disposing cost _on top of_ the fine, so that way they have no choice but to do things the right way in order to stay afloat (pun intended).

Spineless employers will always exist as long as they're not pressured by unions and/or religiously operate by the outdated policy "the customer is always right". That's why big brands like Amazon and Starbucks should be boycotted on a definite scale due to their horrible working conditions and mistreatment of employees, coupled with how harshly they respond to any attempts at being unionized. If they don't value the people working for them, they don't deserve to be in business.

With the first story, if it was me as the customer, and my daughter (If I had one) ordered something like that, I'd be "oh, sorry, guess we should've been more specific" and re-ordered it or something and then move on. Employees comply with what is ordered, plain and simple, and it isn't like you can expect people to cater to your _intent_ like they can read your mind. Their job is not to pamper you, but to go with what everyone is ordering and keep up the pace. Also, there was _ANOTHER_ malicious compliance story, involving pizza as well, where a much more low-key place _tried to_ comply with the "spirit over the law" of what the customer was ordering, a well done pizza, but ignored his specification of "5 minutes over" because that would burn it, and when he arrived and picked up his good pizza, he got angry and _made_ them do it "the way that I ordered", even though that DID burn it. There's no winning with some people, so I go on the side of the employees in cases like this.

In the US, it depends on what you are trying to pay and where. Stores, gas stations and restaurants, for instance can refuse to accept certain size bills and coins and many do. If you are trying to pay a debt, loan and most bills that you owe on, they have to accept all legal tenders. The bank legally can't refuse to accept bills or coins from someone who is trying to pay on their loan, especially since the money came from another bank. You are right, it's the poor clerks and staff that have to suffer and count all of it and it doesn't effect upper management or the people who made such decisions. Those people don't care because it doesn't effect them directly.

Story 5: I don't know what it's like in America, but in Australia, companies are absolutely able to deny people paying in coins even though it's legal tender. A company has the right to set the rules with how it takes payment. Case and point - A lot of places stopped taking cash altogether when everything reopened after the pandemic, only allowing card transactions.

It's crazy that a bank would try to refuse to take legal tender that came from another bank.

Obviously, I wouldn't say that's OP's fault entirely, but I feel like the cookers should have taken the hint that they wanted the wing meat and not the actual bones inside. OP in the last story really missed an opportunity. In the US, any debt collector (anybody that you owe money to) legally has to accept any form of legal US tender as payment or else they forfeit the entire debt and you no longer owe a single penny. If OP had got that bank manager refusing the quarters on video, he could have legally got his entire debt wiped clean and there's absolutely nothing BoA could have done about it.

Tech support story: I had a similar situation with the opposite result. I was a sysadmin at a medium sized company with no path to advancement unless I wanted to relocate, which I didn't. I ended up taking a desktop support job which I was way overqualified for at a much larger company because there was more advancement opportunity, and they initially said they would prefer to hire me as desktop to see if I "know [my] stuff" and to "get [me] used to the environment" with the option to get promoted back to sysadmin later. Well, most desktop techs were doing 40-60 tickets/month. The GOOD ones were doing as much as 80. I was doing over 100/mo every month since I started. When it came time to promote me, I kept getting passed over. Why promote me when I'm basically doing the job of two people for the price of one? I did end up getting promoted, but I had to do it behind my manager's back because I knew there was no way they'd let me go to another team if they had a say.

He had been charged this fee every month for the over ten years he had been with the bank! I immediately had him call the bank and close his account. They said they’d waive the fee since his direct deposits qualified, which enraged me more because, if he qualified, why didn’t they just waive the fee automatically?! He had an old credit card with BoA we wanted to keep for his credit’s sake, but without the bank account, we couldn’t pay its monthly balance online anymore (it has good rewards). The website wouldn’t even give us the option to pay it online using an account from another bank, like every other bank does! And I know BoA can let you pay your credit cards online with another bank’s account because I have a BoA credit card and never had a bank account with them, and I can pay it online. To this day, we still have to call Bank of America in order to pay the monthly balance of my husband’s credit card.
