Story 6: A therapist telling people to remove themselves from existence? That's no good, she's supposed to say the exact opposite As for the whole ban system, holy hell that is terrible, like they're basically just giving bullies a slap on the wrist. Those bans are supposed to be permanent

Wouldn't be surprised if the therapist was depressed herself and that was how she was lashing out. Not the healthiest or most commendable thing to do, but it wouldn't be the first time someone's professional pride prevented them from getting help even when they know they need it. Mental health issues among healthcare workers is actually extremely common.

The Will post: I agree that the mother should have made a Will years ago however, many believe they don't need one because they don't "have anything to leave" and then put it off too long. This is not an excuse and she SHOULD have made a Will, of course, but there it is. To be fair, in the end, she might have been in a health situation where it would be illegal for her to sign any legal/financial document. My husband died with an Alzheimer's diagnosis, for example, so thankfully he made his Will long before his diagnosis. This can apply to physical constraints, as well: if the patient is on heavy doses of pain killers sometimes, for example. Anything that could impede the patient's clear thinking, or open them to be easily coerced makes their last minute Will open to debate, at the very least.

It also depends on what you want done. By default, when you die your money is distributed per stirpes - first to your spouse. If no spouse, to your children. If no children, then your parents. If no parents, then your siblings. If not sibling, your nieces/nephews. If no nieces/nephews, your grand parents. If no grandparents, your aunts/uncles. If no aunts/uncles, your cousins (this sort of ladder structure repeats until a willing heir is found, or if no heirs are found I think the government takes it? I’m not a lawyers so dont quote me on that bit. But basically, all is not lost if you don’t have a will and you trust your spouse/next heir. That’s enough for most people

Rslash - Making a will on your deathbed is not as easy as it seems, especially when greedy people are involved. Its all too common, and far too easy, to have people declared incompetent to make such decisions. My wife had to fight that legal battle when her dad died, and made a will during his last few weeks. It was a very long legal fight, and in the end, didn't amount to much use. By the time it was over, anything of sentimental significance to her and her siblings had "vanished", and the monetary remains that could be counted as solely his weren't worth much, especially after legal fees.

For those asking rSlash to take a break, do note that taking a break or vacation while still uploading daily still entails frontloading and recording multiple videos over a few days. This just redistributes the stress and I'd assume isn't as relieving. He also can't simply stop making videos, as the RU-vid algorithm essentially punishes creators that don't upload consistently. I'd assume this is devastating for a channel that's been relatively stagnant in terms of views and subscriber count for a while. It seems like it would be much more beneficial for him to stop uploading every day. It might provide diminishing returns at first, but I think it will be much better overtime. EDIT: Including more positive, supportive, comical, or fulfilling subreddits in the palate of uploads would probably decrease the seeming burden of the workload, although I'm not sure how the views would compare to r/AITA and r/Bestof videos, for example. I'd hope most of rSlash fans would at least understand though.

The truth is in many states a will doesn't need to be a big thing. In my state, it literally can just be written on a piece of paper and witnessed by 2 people. Grab 2 friends or nurses and, write out a simple will, can literally be a paragraph, and sign.

Wills can be written in chronic disease, near death circumstances but it looks suspicious. The government, life insurance companies will question the death, mental state, and motives. Depending on the assets they can be seized by the government too.

Are wills easy to set up? Sure. And just because there is a will doesn't mean that it won't be contested or you won't end up in a legal battle. My grandmother made multiple wills over the last 20 years. My uncle was named executor, which in the state they lived in carries certain fiduciary responsibilities by law. He has been refusing to respond to my mom, turned in older wills, despite being told where the most current will was. (My cousin later found it, right where my uncle was told it was, and gave it to the lawyer.) My mom is considering requesting an investigation of elder financial abuse. (There is evidence that he spent her money on things he shouldn't have.) There is an ongoing lawsuit against my uncle. Here is where it gets pertinent to the story: my grandma realized right at the end that her son had been taking advantage of her and at that point she was too ill to change the will, even if she wanted to. Even if you try to do everything right, sometimes it is just too late.

On Story 5/the will story: Rslash, that comment was really insensitive. My grandfather died this past September and while he did have a will, it hadn't been updated since my grandmother's passing about two years prior. Likely because handling her estate and his own grief was very harsh on him. But when it was clear to us he was dying, it was very difficult for us to have the doctor agree he was of sound mind and transfer authority to be his executor and power of attorney to my aunt [something he said he wanted prior to this anyway]- and that was just an edit to a very cut and dry estate. If she didn't have a will, the fact that she may not have been considered of sound mind before he death greatly impacts it. My grandfather was a smart man, even at the end of his life. He just made a mistake. At that point in her life, it isn't laziness or anything. She may literally have not had the time or the legal capability to get it done. That isn't considering what else in her life may have meant she didn't have a will [such as not being able to afford an attorney until it was too late]. And health can go sideways fast. My grandfather was seemingly in perfect health before he suddenly passed. It was less than a week of him going downhill just before he was about to come live with us. We don't know the full situation with OP's mom, and calling her lazy and stupid is deeply disrespectful. Not to mention the absolute legal nightmare that can ensue with trying to actually go through with the will once the time comes- again, my grandfather's estate was VERY simply, cut-and-dry, and it only just recently got resolved. And that was quick, it was expected to take a full year.

Even if people HAVE a will, it doesn't mean it's followed. My grandmother's will stated certain things were to go to my dad, and guess what? He died (with no will, because he was young with no known health complications) very suddenly, and the rest of his siblings took what was LEGALLY mine. My mom, who is an attorney, knew it wasn't worth the legal battle and asked for what she thought was necessary from my grandmother's house (i.e. plates for me to use when I moved out, or gifts we'd gotten her). Not everything is black and white, even when it comes to wills. And thanks for insulting anyone who died unexpectedly and didn't think they'd have to craft a will. And any potential attorney spouses who said they would help. Can't wait knowing THAT take'll get removed instead of an apology for being so callous.

If he just stops uploading, he will receive less engagements since the RU-vid algorithm desires creators who consistently upload If he stops uploading every day (the best solution, in my opinion), it will hurt his revenue. Though, I'd presume that uploading 5 or 6 days out of 7 is still a sustainable job. Uploading more positive, comical, or fulfilling content on some days might make the workload feel more burdensome, but I think more people are inclined to watch content like this because of its shock or drama value. About that will post, my mom and I were in a similar situation, she was deadly sick and had no will. My "luck" was that I'm the only person left that was there to inherit anything. Anyways, in the end she wasn't able to make a will because the last three weeks of her life were only tollerable because she got the maximum dosage of Fentanyl you can give an adult. To put it bluntly, she was lucid enough to lament the mistakes of her life, but in no position to sign any kind of legally binding document. This might have been the same with OPs mom in this story, so... No, she's not stupid for not getting a will done on the spot (which itself can be fought quite easily due to the fact she's about to die), she's at most shortsighted to not make a will when she had the opportunity to.

It does seem to attract some really vile individuals who themselves probably suffer from a personality disorder, such as sociopathy or malignant narcissism, who get a real kick out of manipulating and preying on a victim pool of vulnerable people seeking help. I’ve met perhaps five therapists over the years who certainly enjoyed playing with people’s lives (3 psychiatrists and 2 psychologists), plus a medical student looking to go into psychiatry who was a horrible bully in high school. I hate to think how much damage such people can do in that role, and how many patients they’ve talked into killing themselves. OP should have sent the recordings to the therapist’s governing body. Patients definitely need to be protected from her.

For the mom, setting up an appointment with a lawyer so you can give your daughter your money (especially if your own husband probably won't help with it, because he wants all of it) sounds utterly EXHAUSTING. I don't think doing all that sounds like a good use of what time she had left, especially if she just wants to spend it with her family. RSlash… Story 5 is not it. My grandmother is sadly dead now but her life was made HELL because of 3 degenerate children who are no longer in our lives/family. She had a will. She had POA with my father. She started to lose her memory/self as she aged and her terrible kids (excluding my father and aunt) called APS and stole all of my grandmothers money, had her rewrite her will and she wasn’t able to move anymore towards the end of her life. How you handled that story was crass and heartless. It’s easy to say make a will. My grandma did and then it was thrown out for her new version that she was manipulated into. That and never speak ill will of the dead.

Rslash is slowly becoming the type of content creator everyone hates. The lack of sympathy is baffling for the poor dying mom. Yes, a will is easy to make, but it takes MONTHS of work to go through and all the assets take time to calculate. She was likely too far onto her illness to handle those things. It seems like that week long vacation in the grand canions didn't do him any good.

OP in the last story should have told Kathy that she needs help because someone kept calling their job and telling her to hurt herself and it's really getting to her. Then before Kathy can respond say 'you know what, never mind, that person is right' then hang up leaving Kathy with the agonizing guilt that she was responsible for someone hurting themselves.

Story 5: Some illness can prevent you from making a will that will stand up in court, as they might not be considered legally competent to make such decisions due to degradation of mental capabilities. So yeah, the mom COULD have made a will, but it may have been extremely easy to overturn and she probably knew that.

Just FYI: having a Will is infinitely better than not having one but ideally you should be setting up a Trust. Most lawyers will try to get you to execute a will because not only do they get paid to write the will but they get paid again to probate the will once you pass. A trust will avoid probate.

My Masters degree advisors were very noted about the volume and quality of writings done with their names on it. You can bet that nothing got passed them. Everything was properly notated, etc. I even got cited in other journals afterwards by their efforts. This I found out at the 5 year anniversary of my undergraduate class graduation. A fellow alumnus congratulated me on the paper that I researched later. Thank you to my advisors.

In Oregon you have to have two non-related witnesses and a notary to make a will. Which means you have to find two friends who can take time off during the business day. It is a pain.
@sophie9419
@sophie9419 2 месяца назад
It's really not. You don't have to know the witnesses personally, as long as they're unrelated.

Story 5: Although, I agree the will should’ve been made long before her death, the way it was worded felt a bit harsh. Not to mention, OP said ‘mom’s husband’ not ‘dad’ implying this isn’t their dad, or something similar. Although I’m not certain, it could indicate why a will wasn’t made, as their mother’s life changed

Agreeing with everyone calling for a break here. How would you feel if your only remaining family member passed, leaving you feeling alone and isolated, just for someone to call them “dumb and stupid” because they didn’t act in the most “rational” way when they were seriously ill? This isn’t constructive reflection on a story, this is just unkind. Take some time away and come back refreshed, this isn’t want you want to be putting out into the world.

I think the last story with the call center was an actual strategy the therapist used to get more clients. Okay, so imagine this. You’re constantly tormented at your job, never having a break and even gaining low self esteem or mental health. So what d’ya do? You go to a therapist. The closest one? That therapist lady. It’s like some sorta step by step method to worsen people’s health to get more clientele. Kinda like a security company getting people to ‘break in’ to a house to make people believe they need the products they provide

"Lazy" story: 100% the husband was keeping his abusive narcissistic tendencies on the downlow until after the wedding. The mask was finally dropped only after they got hitched. Many abusers are like that. They are narcissistically charming and fool everyone so that when the abused tries to go for help, they are not believed. Dude's legit a monster.
