r/Prorevenge In today's episode, OP is attending college during quarantine, so he has to log into campus computers remotely. However, someone keeps booting OP off of his remote access, causing him to lose hours of work. When OP decides to go to campus in-person, he discovers that two bullies are going through the computer lab to manually log people off of remote access. He quickly streams their activities to the entire campus, which results in the two bullies getting expelled and then deported!

What were those two trying to gain from kicking people off their devices? Did they just think it was fun? If they're students, wouldn't they have their own work to do? Yeah I’m sure they had security cameras in the computer lab, I would imagine that would be one of the most important places to put cameras with the thousands of dollars worth of PCs, so I don’t know why the school didn’t at least check the security cameras to see if someone was messing with the PCs.
@SolarMegaMan
@SolarMegaMan 2 года назад
Students messing with PCs isn't really the first thing that comes to mind when you hear that students are randomly getting logged off, really, usually you'll assume an error with the way it logs users in or something along those lines. That, and I imagine anyone that could actually check on the PCs proper would only show up after school hours, so they would have left by then. Everyone else was staying online because they either had PCs to work with or otherwise just decided to find alternatives, so they probably assumed that the odds of them getting caught were very low. As for them having their own work to do... Probably, but they can skip lectures and stuff or stay logged on to whatever stream is necessary via their phone to count for attendance.

Back in the early 2000's we had a postman, one out of 4 that delivered to our area in shifts and he was the laziest piece of work imaginable. He would only work one day in three, saving up the post and deliver it all over that one day so he did only one days work, but paid for three. Well I was waiting on letters for potential university interviews and didn't get one letter. This bummed me out, but I then got a phone call from one of the universities asking if they could change my interview time (which was scheduled for the following day) for earlier. Well I told them I had no idea I had an interview then, true and said I never got the letter. Well the university were cool and said they could change it to the day after the next day instead. My dad was able to ask for that time off and he drove me the couple of hundred miles to the interview (I got in). Then we told another of our postman about the issue with our post and he looked into it. Turns out the lazy A-hole started to throw away post bags and not even work the third day in his little scheme (he was followed) and as it was ROYAL MAIL (they weren't privatised then and they were working on behalf of the crown) he was fired for basically low level treason. He was barred from any job in any governmental capacity for life. They eventually found the post the a-hole dumped, months later, I had missed over a dozen university interviews and a lot of other undelivered post.

There was a Royal Mail scandal a few years back. A woman was working in her front garden and a post van pilled up. The man handed her a "Sorry we missed you" card which told her she had to go to her local sorting office to pick up a parcel. She pointed out that she was standing right in front of the postman, and requested her parcel. "Oh, we never put parcels in the van. Everyone just gets a notification card. Company policy." The woman, thinking it was a one-off, took out her frustrations by writing to a newspaper, which published her letter. twenty-four hours later *hundreds* of people reported a similar experience. It turns out it *was* company policy, designed to cut costs. Several senior RM executives got hauled over the coals. It still happens, of course, but not so regularly (or so blatantly) that it can be pinned on anyone.

A few none too bright students kept sliding their cards on the wrong computer each time they came in because the sliders would be all over the place as their was not a lot of space around the computer. More than once a remote access student was booted because a student could not bother to double check which computer the bar reader was attached to.

At its basest, my main theory is that they never realized that "actions have consequences" and that they'd be busted eventually, and that's assuming they thought it was "funny" until they were caught and given the riot act realizing how serious an offense it is. I would have assumed it was just immature stupidity, but their laughing while doing it and then trying to steal and destroy the evidence when they were exposed says otherwise. They were probably too dumb or blind (or just full of themselves) to consider something more constructive.

While this is a beautiful revenge story, I'd have to give huge marks against the campus IT staff. If they'd done their due diligence, they would have checked the systems in the lab and the live connections from the students, caughting these d-bags red-handed. Instead, they likely sat on the asses, remote logged into the systems and just assumed a different user was accessing each one. Some issues require _physical_ troubleshooting.

For the last story I'm not even sure how that would work in the long term for those students, firstly, if anyone decided to do what OP did and go in person then they'd be caught, or they'd be able to luck their way into seeming like they're not doing exactly what they're doing, but as long as the student is there then they cant go, which would potentially result in other students going "hey wait a minute, when there's someone in person the disconnection doesn't happen... weird?" but secondly, after finding out that they were caught was the plan to destroy the phone and laptop and then claim there wasn't any evidence? Like i'm pretty sure at least one person would have recognized them, in addition to being able to clearly see who destroyed the evidence, and this is without suggesting the idea that maybe someone saved the stream or took screenshots or something. And even if by some miracle someone didn't recognize them, and they destroyed the evidence, and they managed to get away before campus security and managed to avoid security cameras and got away with it then there's no game plan after that, because the next step would be the school taking steps to stop something like that from happening again, which means they'd probably just lock the room and say "sorry, but now the only way to access is via remote access because someone decided to ruin it for the rest of you"

Our mail carrier absolutely engaged in petty revenge when we complained about the constantly misdelivered mail (we would find stacks of letters with addresses not even similar to ours shoved in our box as if he just got tired of his route and dumped it here), refusal to pick up outgoing mail (he would just knock the flag down and shove our new mail in the box without bothering to pick up the outgoing items), constantly throwing our packages in the ditch or hiding them in places he knew we wouldn't look instead of just PUTTING THEM ON THE DAMN PORCH, refusing to deliver packages or mail when he didn't feel like getting out of his car (he would actually stop in the middle of the street and lay on the horn with his arm out the window and if you didn't come out right away, then he would football spike your packages and curse all the way to and from his car). Lots of stuff like that, and he did it to all of our neighbors too. So I called it in.. and the next time we had a big, heavy package, he shoved it against our front door that VERY clearly opens outward, effectively a.) trapping us in the house, and b.) illegally blocking a fire exit. Thankfully we had a back door, but with two people here with severely limited mobility, having to walk all the way around the property to the front just to get out was ridiculous. Nothing has been done about him to this day, and he still has the route. I've only ever seen worse behavior from FedEx, who destroys things, is rude, also refuses to get out of the truck if it's cold or wet and marks things undeliverable (watched dude on our security cam sitting out front and then the "failed delivery" email came in as he drove off without even getting out or trying to deliver our packages). He even refuses to deliver mail to one local lady's house because, as the ticket says, "the driveway is broken" (she lives down a gravel lane).

How can you ever not think that there’s a physical issue with the computers if they are being remotely logged into. They literally could’ve stopped this on the first day, oh we are getting emails that users are being kicked from their remote pcs, got to make sure all the programs work perfectly and not check the times when they were kicked out. Also I’m pretty sure IT have a log for errors with users.

I am surprised that IT did not think of someone kicking students off the vm to be surprised as that was the first thing I was thinking of before op found out. I am also thinking that is such a dumb design by the college. Remote access to a machine should be done by a server hidden away in an IT closet that no one can access except for IT. The computers that are open to student use like the ones in the video should not be remove access and only in person. IT should change that system up and not be so dumb to not have figured out that something was wrong at the physical site of systems logging off at different time intervals when they knew how the vm system is designed and what its flaws are. I only have one year of experience in IT and was able to figure this out right away. Geez, everyone is dumb in this story except for op and the cops.

This does explain why the school punished OP though. They realized that his viral live stream could potentially damage the school's reputation since the design flaws of their security would be plain to see.

That is part of what made that story seem fake to me. We are to believe that this was going on for months and was being done in front of cameras and that with all of that during that time nobody thought to be in the room to see what was going on with this being reported every single day for hours? Nobody thought to check the logs? Nobody though to check the cameras to see if something was going on in the rooms? Also these two guys were spending 12 hours a day for a month logging people out?

5:31 gotta jump in it’s not really about making us look bad, they will use the time of a temp/CCA to add on to routes or deny claims of over burdened routes. A lot of new comers and temps aren’t thinking of the long term effects routes can have on the body so they run through them making it looks as if the route is shorter. I’m the shop steward for my office and a carrier of 7 years. I’ve seen mental and physical break downs of carriers pushed pass their limits by management, my self included.

Yes. I am 55 and at 20, I could have knocked at least an hour off my time, without breaking into a sweat. However, I wouldn't have made it to 35, never mind 55, without back ache, shin splints, falls and a world of stored-up pain to follow. I am also 5ft 6 and my arms are not long enough to stretch over the fence and post mail through the next door of a terraced house (UK), so it is going to take me twice as long as a 6ft 5 person who doesn’t have to walk up and down every path, opening and shutting every gate. The Royal Mail knows this and assigns routes in accordance with age/time served and height... at least, they do in my depot, because it is run by people who ask the right questions, listen and learn from the people on the ground and actually believe in ’teamwork’ , as opposed to using it as a meaningless buzzword! It’s all rather refreshing! This lazy-arsed bloke would never have got away with that crap in our office - leaving all the heavy stuff for the bloke who covered on his day off. The management should have stopped this. They should also have investigated how this temp was doing the job so fast -not just taking his word for it - so, the management is also bad at their job. So, I have mixed feelings about this one.

Some people might be a bit sketchy about the first story and the work ethic of the people there. It's important to know that this is 100% correct. You shouldn't be "overachieving." You're not helping yourself and you're certainly not helping your workmates. The thing of it is that if you give an inch, your higher ups will take a mile. If they see they can take that mile from you, they will start trying to take it from everyone else as well. Work is already stressful. It's physically and mentally taxing. There's a reason we all look forward to weekends / days off so much. Creating an environment where demands placed on workers in your milieu are higher only leads to a compounding of that stress. Anyway, Dave was a bastard and got what he deserved.

The second one was sooooo sweet! 😂 My best bully story was that I was a skinny geek in HS, weighing in at 124# at 6’1” tall. There was a bully, a short but stout guy, who regularly walked by my desk every day in home room and punched me in the shoulder as hard as he could. The teacher would scold him, but never did anything about it. So I took revenge. I pushed 100 thumbtacks through a 2” wide strip of tape, and stuck it to my arm. I then wore a sweater to hide the booby trap. When he punched me, the entire school must have heard him scream! He was taken to the nurse, and then the hospital. I was given two weeks detention, which was really no big deal, and the detention teachers all went easy on me, letting me go early. They all knew this guy was a jerk. He was expelled for several days. His hand was bandaged for weeks. He never punched me again!

Most schools have this policy to punish both the one who should and the victim to try to get them to work things out. It's stupid they shouldn't punish someone who was ganged up on and still! Managed to kick there ass too the ground until security came. I have a story myself that kinda is the same. This kid was throwing empty pop cans at my head for awhile I tried ignoring it (I had bad anger issues at the time was learning self control). I finally had enough I turned to him and his friends and he tried to punch me. And I slammed him down. That's when his friends tried intervening by that point I was so mad I blacked out. Next thing I remember I was in the principles office with him and his friends. The principle looked at me and said why would you fight him he is captain of the wresting team you could have gotten hurt. Nothing happened to them while I had a stern lecture to not defend myself. (Never took that advice still will defend myself cause my well being is more important then there ego)

Funny, my class needed to use remote access to the schools terminals in my programmable controllers class, and this would happen quite often even during our class. For some reason, if someone logged on to the remote system that you were using, the person who was logging in had priority over the person already remotely working, so all the time while we were working on projects, we would randomly get booted off and lose hours of progress.
