Wow, this has been out here for over a year and I never knew. In answer to Mr. rSlash's question, no, I did not rub it in David Stress's face that I got him canned, for two reasons: 1) It would be unprofessional, and it's a small community in this particular specialty; you don't want to get a reputation for being a problem, and 2) I didn't actually set out to get him fired. I genuinely did not expect that outcome. When I went to the payroll manager, everything I said to her was entirely truthful: not asking you to do anything specific, just letting you know the situation. I expected to be cancelling my future plane tickets and hotel reservations that evening. So to say "I got you fired" would have expressed a prior intent that didn't really exist.

OP #3, the HOA one... I feel you on the "If they had just talked to me" thing. At one of my past jobs, I mentioned during my interview that I have emotional issues, and while they're mostly under control, am at slight risk of doing stupid things now and then, if I get too upset. One day, I got too upset, and accidentally broke the door without realizing. I got fired, but the owner, who had interviewed me, pressed charges. When I first got upset, I was told to clock out early, and wound up sending her a text giving my side of things. She asked me why I kicked the door, and I told her because I couldn't slam it due to hydraulics. She told me to turn in my uniform, which I was fine with. I understood that my episode wasn't really okay, and accepted my fate. A few days later, I got a letter informing me that she had pressed charges, and I saw the charges themselves, but wasn't entirely sure about one of them... damages to property. What did I damage? I didn't find out until I went into court. I apparently shattered the glass in the door. Had no idea. She didn't show up in court. If she had told me I'd broken the door, I would've said something like, "OMG! I'M SO SORRY!" And would've gladly paid for a new door. If she had shown up in court, I would've been peeved, but I'd have gotten over it. But the last words she said to me were telling me, over a text, to turn in my uniform. So, I now boycott the local subways, as she owns all 3. If she had just said something, or at least bothered to show up in court, she'd still have my business, and the business of my family and (most, if not all) my friends.

The HOA thing proves two truisms: first, never move to a place with an HOA. Second, if you are somehow forced to move to a place with an HOA, make sure you get all the dirt on the relevant members, so that if they start trying to dictate terms to you, the whole HOA's core membership will be shamed and removed. If you pay for property, it's yours. Not someone else's.

Living in a HOA honestly sounds like hell, imagine living in a place where happy children playing in their backyard is actually considered bad. How sad and bitter do you have to be to get upset over something joyful like that? And people actually pay a premium to live in those places.
