The audacity of Ella. She knew exactly what she did to that girl, and has the nerve of being sad that no one wants anything to do with her? Both Ella and OPs son are garbage people. I'd pick my daughter over a son that dates someone who bullied a girl to near suicide any day. "Hey mom I'm marrying my sisters abuser" would be our last conversation.
@beautifulmidnight
@beautifulmidnight Год назад
Exactly. I was in OP’s daughter’s situation. Twenty years later and I still struggle with body issues and residual eating disorder feelings. (I still have to fight the urge to starve myself as a punishment.) I love my brother more than almost anyone in the world, but if he came home and was like “Hey, I started dating Amanda, that girl you knew in junior high,” I’d give him a chance to come to his senses, and then that’s it. Goodbye. And I’d cut off anyone who picked her side.
@Tustin2121
@Tustin2121 Год назад
Imma play devil’s advocate here: Ella probably doesn’t know exactly what she did to the daughter. She was probably her bitchy self throughout high school and if she never saw first hand what her words and actions did, she never would have connected it to her own actions. It’s not like the daughter is gonna want to see Ella when the daughter is in the hospital at her lowest, so Ella likely never knew. It’s that old trope where, for the victim, it’s the worst days of their lives, but for the aggressor, it was Tuesday. Here’s hoping that the crying to sleep was her realizing what she did and not just “woe is me”, but I’m not holding my breath.
@chouhone

@@Tustin2121 but the story stated she got punished for it?? You'd think someone would realise after that, no? But I think the biggest wrong doer is the son for even letting the bully into OP and her daughter's lives
@Tustin2121
@Tustin2121 Год назад
@@chouhone - I mean, even if they did get punished, that was, what, a few days at most of suspension? Probably for what the girls thought were BS reasons at the time? Obviously didn’t sink in the full weight of what she did. And yes, the son is the biggest AH here for not even considering what this is doing to his own sister. Because he DEFINITELY has the context here.

I found the guy’s name, sent him a message on… MSN messenger or something just tearing a strip off him, told him if I found out he so much looked at my brother sideways, I’d have a go at the bastard before I called police. And the bullying stopped. A whiiile later (six months or more), he messaged me saying hi, and asked if I remembered him. I said no. His response “This is the guy who was going to beat up your brother.” “….the fuck do you want?” He fucking asked me out. The last story (From the 13:24 marker to the end of the video) has an update: OP broke up with her BF via text message, saying what he did really crossed a line with her and that she never wants to hear from him again. She blocked him from all her contacts and was thinking of even changing her number too. Her friend she was staying with helped retrieve most of her important stuff from the old place with her own boyfriend's help except for a TV and an XBox OP bought with her own money (she didn't feel like she had the energy to go through with getting those back, so she initially let it go). The Ex-BF's mom later contacted her to ask about what was going on, because Ex-BF called his mom telling her OP had a mental breakdown and ran away, and he was worried about her. OP told his mom what really happened, and the mom got PISSED! She apologized to OP immensely and said that that's not how she raised her son to be, and she even offered to help OP in any way that she could. After that, the mom then told Ex-BF's older sister about what happened, and even she became very pissed at her brother for what he did. The older sister also apologized for her brother's asshole behaviour, offering to help OP in any way that she could too, despite their not being entirely all that close. OP appreciated the gesture, but didn't want to trouble the sister all too much with the drama, but the sister insisted on helping because there was no way she was going to let her brother get away with what he did to OP. This whole ordeal left OP very drained and exhausted. She felt like she ignored all the red flags in that relationship because she was afraid of being alone. She's been trying not to completely blame herself for what happened, but also feels like this is what she gets for subjecting herself to this situation. She concludes the update hoping that nothing else from this drama ever comes up again, thanking her readers for their support and advice, promising to probably give another update once everything has all cooled down.

Agreed. Taking the cell phone or internet away may work, but that's only a bandaid short term solution. You're only showing the kid you don't want him on whatever he's into and getting these ideas from. Making them more appealing because you're forbidding them. You're only dealing with the surface and not addressing the real problem. Time gor malicious parental compliance. Make the kid "pay rent (obviously just put it in a savings account or something temporarily) and each month increase the amount, or increase the frequency of when it's due. When he complains, which he almost no doubt will inevitably do, that's when you remind him of his own absurd notions about the sanctity of landlords and how they apparently can do no wrong. Make sure to ask for your landlord tip, too. Demonstrate the reality of the ideals he's been soaking up. Act completely innocent about it. "bUt I'm A laNdlorD, It's mY rIghT tO acT thIs waY." If he can't pay, or refuses, then "I gUesS I'll JuSt hAvE tO fiLe yOuR eViCtiOn nOtiCe, tHen. GooD lUck fiNdinG a PlAce, hOpE yoU'vE gOt a PlAn." With a follow up reminder that as a landlord, you can do anything you want, and it's perfectly fine to do so. Be sure to thank him for teaching you and being so smart and helpful about all this. In all reality, he's probably just being a dumb edgy teenager who thinks he's the smartest person in the room now, because he's browsed some reddit forums or something, and that he knows more than his dumb "rentoid" father. A good dosage of his own ideology applied to him for a short while should help him understand the lesson you're trying to get through far better than just taking his phone/internet away.

There's no amount of apologizing you could do to make up for the fact that you believed psycho mom over your own wife. Honestly, I don't think she should forgive her daughter so easily either, she was 16 not 6 and was old enough to at least hear her own mother out. If the daughter is so mad that OP won't forgive them right away, then it sounds like both the ex and daughter are apologizing because they want to feel better about themselves and the horrible thing they did than to make OP feel better. Edit: I found the original Reddit thread and the daughter responded. She pretty much played the victim and took no responsibility for what she did. Pretty much said grandma love bombed me and bought me gift so I took her side over my mom's. And to make matters worse, it sounds like grandma paid a crackhead friend of the husband to lie about being in an affair with OP and everyone believed him. The fact that the ex didn't need anything more than the word of an addict just leaves me speechless. OP should move away and cut all her toxic ex family out of her life.

That's the mantra of people who have never experienced trauma in their lives and who lack understanding or empathy for others. I say lack of understanding because people with ASD have difficulty putting themselves in someone else's shoes, and I don't have a problem with people like that. They can't help it. I once dated someone that I now think is on the autistic spectrum, because, while he was pretty sweet for the most part, he really didn't seem to understand how it felt to have trauma. He had lived a pretty sheltered life, and also had no idea how dangerous the world can be. As such, he would constantly dismiss my concerns about my personal safety. But I digress. Anyway, it sounds like this idiot (OP's ex) is in the latter category: he lacks empathy. She does want to reconnect with her daughter but is talking about setting up a lot of boundaries and therapy together. All sides have cut out the demon MIL too. The big thing, however, is that the daughter was given a friend's account to post about it and is coming off *bad* . She's making herself out as a victim of abuse but a lot of people are getting on her ass that while manipulated, she didn't really bother to learn the facts and immediately jumped on to her father's side. She had all of four years to actually ask but never did anything and only found out about it through tiktok. @@Sanodi21 I haven't read the daughter's post, but tbf, most of the time when this happens in real life, people shut down a bit to block themselves off from the betrayal, and from her perspective it probably seemed like she was presented with strong evidence of her mother cheating on her dad, hurting him deeply. And getting those gifts from a seemingly warm and friendly grandma goes a long way to helping a kid with that emotional shutoff they're doing to protect themselves. From what I've seen in the comments here at least, she's honestly acting about the way I would expect someone that age TO act, given their circumstances. We can speak from on high and with hindsight all we want about how things should have gone and what a smart person would do, but from my experiences her reactions were pretty normal, over all. I feel sorry for the dad ONLY in as much as yeah, it hurts to think your partner cheated on you. I don't even blame him for the initial outburst. Its an emotional sledgehammer to be presented with even faked proof of infidelity. But as an adult who knew his mother better than his daughter did, HE at least should have worked harder to make sure he was being told the truth. Should have had the knowledge of her enough to consider the evidence he was given wasn't face value. He does NOT get to try and force any sort of relationship with his ex wife. He had a whole year in the divorce proceedings to hear and listen to her, and he chose not to. Read the daughter's post but not of the comments: I stand by what I said. Daughter's reaction is what I'd expect of someone that age in those circumstances. I honestly don't get all the hate. Sounds to me like people were just jumping on to her back because of pity for the OP and unfairly putting blame at the daughter's feet.

The story of OP's son planning to be a landlord, and putting down OP for being a renter. I was expecting that some part of the story, having the son asking OP for some money. Causing OP to have an evil smile, and say something like .... "Ohhhhh really you need money from me, a renter." Plus, I like what you suggested rslash, about charging the son.... some form of rent.

Nah she was being an idiot. If having Ella in the family was such a problem OP should’ve confronted both Ella and the son about it right away. She’s had what, a decade? She could’ve spared EVERYONE so much inconvenience.

Yeah a lot of people don't realize the time and money that goes into being a landlord, not to mention the legal issues. They think it's easy money. It is, if you're willing to risk a lawsuit from a knowledgeable tenant XD

4th Story, I support you leaving him, also take him for what he's worth. How dare he make you work your ass off so he can get his dream job and then turn around and ask you to give up your dream and renege on the deal. Ho can he expect you to do everything to support him and he waffled at the critical moment. At best he's a jackass who wants to change your mind. At worst, he used you.

I am a landlord . I rent my later grandmothers apartment and I honestly can’t imagine pulling dumb shit like this . Story 2 I heard this one as well. This is grounds for going no contact to me. He knows what she did to his sister.
@franciscojaviermendezrinco1902
Second story: She remembers it, she doesn't apologize, so she doesn't feel bad of almost killing her sister in law before the was her sister in law. She's really lucky OP has been keeping it civil and OP's son is lucky he wasn't disowned when he married that bully.
@PikachuLittle
@PikachuLittle Год назад
She barely remembers it and likely didn’t know about the hospitalization. To her it was petty highschool banter. Did OP ever directly confront her about the bullying before this point? Because if she didn’t then it’s very easy to see why Ella just plain doesn’t understand the impact of her actions. Or do you think she’s psychic?

For the third story, there's an easy way to solve the problem with the kid: show him house listings. Show him the house, then show him the price of said house, and them ask him how much money does he make a month. Then remind him that he'll be 18 and going to college in three years. That may be a good wake up call.

I've heard the first story multiple times and know about the couple updates with the daughter. I find it odd that nobody seems to mention how the daughter was practically RAISED by the manipulative narcissist grandmother and dumb momma's boy father, probably picking up some garbage traits from both. I am NOT surprised that after contacting her mother and trying to reconcile, she is still coming off as a jerk. She'll have to unlearn years of bias, selfishness, and ignorance if she wants to have a real relationship with her poor mother.

my husband and I prank each other but we keep it pretty mild. the worst my husband has done is replace the book I was reading (which I kept in my purse) with the 3rd book in the series (I was at the beginning of the second) resulting in me waiting for the bus for 20 minutes bored out of my mind (I don't have games on my phone). the worst I've done to him is a couple of minutes before he was supposed to wake up for work, I ran into the room and yelled that he was late for work. the extent the guy in the story went to is NOT pranks. pranks don't cause panic attacks, pranks don't hurt people. this guy needs psychological help, and so does everyone else that thinks this stuff is funny

I went through something vaguely similar to the last story semi-recently. The only differences were that 1. My boyfriend has actually attempted suicide before and 2. He didn’t do the whole bathtub thing. He just sent me the “I love you. I’m sorry.” message. And then didn’t answer his phone when I called. I was DRIVING at the time. I ended up having a panic attack in the Walmart parking lot (I had to pick up a prescription). He ended up sending me a bunch of texts about how he was so, so sorry and that he didn’t even think about that and he called me and profusely apologized. I did forgive him and we’re fine now. But he is NEVER living that down.

Story four: It sounds like he might of had this plan set up before hand. I think he wanted to make sure he made more than her and could control her. He most likely planned for him to go and finish school before her thinking she would think she would be in too deep to leave. That is so sad that he only thought of himself and what he wanted. She dodged a bullet. If she waited he most likely would never allow her to go finish school finding any reason he could to keep her out, "Oh you need to save money for their school".

"Confuse, don't abuse." A prank is hiding five hundred inch-long plastic frogs in weird places around your someone's home. A prank is changing all of someone's ringtones to ABBA's greatest hits. Buying only blue groceries one week. Turning all their clothes inside out then re-folding them and putting them away. A prank isn't taking advantage of someone's honest vulnerability to destroy their mental health for your own amusement. Eff that guy.

He crushed her and wants to shrug it off and act like nothing happened.

To me your husband isn't blameless in this, he threw this away so easily and he had a GF when his mom confessed that she lied. Your daughter may have been Young when all of this happened but she's an adult now anything she does at this point forward can no longer be blamed on her ignorance.

The prank story had an update. The ex told his mom that OP "had a mental break down and ran off so he got worried". The mom called OP and she told them what happend. Mom got super pissed and told ex's sister. Both mother and sister called OP and apoligized and told her that if she needed anything to call them. The sister even said she will tell everyone what he did (most likely to blacklist him).
