Yes it is true that Gaijin has stated they want to eventually remove the R2Y2s from the game however they have been saying this for years and only recently restated their stance on the subject. The problem is selecting a replacement is difficult as all suggestions for Japanese aircraft that could replace it would either be impractical as the planes suggested carried almost no ordinance or it would force Gaijin to add the plane and make up an armament which kind of defeats the purpose of their supposed support of realism. There are also other aircraft people recommend would have almost no place in the game as they are patrol aircraft such as the Kawasaki p1 and Lockheed Orion. The only possible option is the T4 but only the prototype was planned to be equipped with weapons but they couldn't make it work so they scrapped the guns and payload. They also scrapped the complex ballistics computer as the jet was not to be armed so the features were not necessary. According to the JSDF themselves they've never put ordinance on the plane as it's not meant to carry any. Even if they did somehow rig a bomb to the fuselage its doubtful it would be very effective. This is why it has taken so long and I don't see it changing soon.
