The Toyota Supra and Nissan Skyline are both legendary sports cars - but which one is for your taste? GTR R34 Owner: @japonic_official Supra Owner: @Suprasuki Also, follow us on: / jdmmastersofficial #R34 #Skyline #Supra
I find it interesting when someone knows a lot about one jdm manufacturer, but dang it’s like you’re a freaking jdm historian for all makes. Awesome video!
Unfortunately you can't choose between the GTR and Supra that's because they are both great cars to drive......and so that is why I have both car's...... Greetings from Sydney Australia while in the Covid 19 crisis.
Hi..@@angrycatyt8187 at the time when I purchased my GTR34 back in 2014 it cost me around $50,000AUD plus import and customs fees. The Supra I purchased in 2016 cost me $16,000AUD both cars have now doubled in price. In saying that I am in the process of repainting the GTR34 and waiting to get the motor rebuilt. Unfortunately Due to this corona virus which has globally affected the economy of every country not to mention all the deaths it has caused which is very very sad, it has put a hold on my project for at least a year. I'm hoping I still have the funds to continue my project since most of us have lost our jobs here in Sydney Australia.
Hi...@@angrycatyt8187 well its been a tough life working very hard for many many years to be able to afford to buy these car's. But now I have to see how I can continue through these crisis. But hopefully you can afford to buy it one day.
André Lima They hype of the Supra is how strong the engine components and block were made. In the other hand the GT-R was more advanced in technology ... All Wheel drive, Four wheel steering, screen display with engine data (Which for that time was a big step)
Shall I remind you that the Supra JZA80 was first introduced in 1993 vs the Skyline GTR R34 that was introduced in 1999? They should compare the Supra with the R32 instead because that was in the market in 1993. Also in which way the R34 is superior than the Supra? Looks? The R34 has it's roots from a sedan 4 door car vs a unique Sports GT chassis that the Supra has and more aerodynamic. Interior? Hands down the Supra beats everything out there. Equipment and amenities? Still the Supra , which offers more and a sports roof option! Performance ? From a dig and in a circuit race track the 4wd GTR , high speed performance a Supra, so they are kind of equal , or a slight edge for GTR. And last , tuning and power potential ? Of course the Supra!
@@jdmlegent Even So, the GTR R32 was still faster than the Supra. The supra stock ECU wasnt enough good to follow the old R32, Because this GTR started in 1989 and end 1994 one year after the introduction of the JZA80. So the R33 would be the GTR to compare to the Supra !
Everything he said is exactly why I sold my gtr. The Supra with short gear ratio I have makes up the response on a single turbo the engine is cheaper to make the same reliable horsepower, more reliable than the rb26, more torque for street daily usability, much better stability and stiffer chassis. The gtr and the rx7 ( sold gtr still own the rx7) are great focused weekend track or touge cars. The Supra and NSX are great reliable daily drivers that you can also use on the weekend affordably. I LOVE MY RX7 but it’s very sensitive and you must care for it the gtr also in many ways both fixed with lots of money. All that said I truly think for the average enthusiast in the real world the Supra and NSX provides the best experience per dollars spent with little to no down time and minimal maintenance.
depend.. you want 4wd with power or just rear wheel drift/ drag machine... one would cost more than the other... it is the end of that era.. since we now can do 300km without that much maintaince..
The GT-R has history, Grand Prix and circuit championships, it has amazing Predecessors and successors. The MK4 Supra was the only Supra that got big. So the GT-R is the one for me.
Yeah and the mk4 has some history with the whole street racing scene around the world for its tunability. But honestly I’d take the gtr. Or just any r34 in general.
I've been looking for this comparison for a very long time. You remind me why I fell in love with cars in the first place. Thank you for providing very knowledgeable content
You make really great videos. As someone who lives in the U.S., I grew up loving Supras in the mid 90's and it wasn't until Gran Turismo that I knew Skylines existed. This was a great educational video for me.
Really good points on what makes them different. I've told people for a long time that they aren't really direct competitors. The GTR is an AWD, more expansive, homologation car based on a regular sedan. The Supra is a RWD, GT sports car. I actually think the 300XZ is more comparable to the MKIV Supra. Certainly looking at the R35 and A90 the difference is even more pronounced. Anyway, really interesting video, and I learned a lot of cool little details!
You guys really have one of the best if not the best car channel on yt. Your videos are actually about the cars and stuff you show and not just standing next to a car try to look cool while talking about yourself like most of the other "car" youtubers do.
Very good point about the fr setup vs awd setup for the mid speed/technical circuits. In Hakone i drove a gc8 and a fairlady z through the mountain roads and the way the awd system can give access and confidence to different lines through the Apex vs the rwd coast-aim-accelerate approach was apparent to me then. I appreciate the knowledge about the vehicles immensely but what i love about this channel is the racing experience and understanding they bring. Arigatou gozaimashita! Cheers from Canada!
I love both cars but the R34 GT-R is more of my taste. I grew up watching Initial D and later Wangan Midnight, played video games that have the Nissan Skyline GT-R so yeah the R34 GT-R is like my go-to car choice. Both cars are definitely every JDM fans' dream cars to own, as for the GT-R I wish Nissan could reproduce small quantities of Skyline GT-R as complete car with original specs or a modern retrofit with new upgrades as prices of R32, R33 and R34 GT-R makes it harder to obtain unless you have deep pockets. If I were to go back in time and order a Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R from a dealership, definitely a R34 GT-R V-Spec 2 with either TV2 Bayside Blue or custom order with EV1 Yellow paint (EV1 Yellow only available on GT-R base model series 1 and V-Spec 1).
Even if you went back in time, you must realize that a brand new R34 GTR BASE model from the factory was still a $70,000 dollar car brand new in today's money. You want a V-spec 2? almost $85,000. The cheapest one would have been the R32 GTR - which a base model in 1990 would have still been $45,000 car. The well-off were always the ones who purchased these cars. And they are also the only ones who can afford to keep them on the road. The kids in Japan who bought the very used $15,000 R32 GTRs back in the late 2000s fell into money traps and gave up when they admitted they were too expensive to do maintenance and repairs. let alone modify. This guy in the video isn't admitting it, but the Supra is also a premium to keep on the road, large brakes, one-off suspension components. and interior pieces like the dash is over $1000 by itself.
@@JDMMasters Yes please JDM MAESTRO From Puerto Rico I join the requests of those who have rotating power and a heart like a dorito to do a special Rx7 Power Mazda from the Caribbean in 5 seconds and easy.
you really have depth understanding of what youre talking, therefore i subscribe this channel. hope your channel get more viewer, good knowledge channel
I love my Supra because it’s a piece of Japanese history. Back when Japan was on top of the sports car market. It gets so much attention for a car under 100k. Plus it’s just beautiful
Love both cars, luckily, owned both cars. 😅 Love the rawness and brute straight line prowess of the supra. But at the end of the day, I would still choose the Gtr, nothing beats its blood line’s history, records in motorsports. Other sportscars, including the supra, can only dream about it. And I loooove the Rb26’s deep high revving note!! 😊 My favorite is the original Gojira though, the BNR32. Get these skyline Gtrs now guys while you can, their prices are getting crazier by the day. Collectors are now joining the struggle. Lol
I gotta ask notsonatural joe, as a natural joe how does one go about this not so natural thing? It clearly helped you get two of the most amazing cars and I can't get one yet I must be doing something wrong.
This video needed to happen. Lots of knowledge and understanding the difference of these two. Not just fanboys getting wet and not knowing shit. This guy knows his stuff I love it. It’s still #TeamNissan 😈
the whole time you were talking i couldnt get over the fact this cars are just in line with looks and all.. timeless designs for both cars .. and also you just sumed it up "I can't even buy one"even though we all want one
As beautiful as that supra is, idc about the "classic" look. That stock wing gotta go. The trd wing with the carbon blade just gives the mk4 such an aggressive yet complete look
a little misnomer. If you see a "carbon" blade on a "TRD" wing, it's fake. The real TRD wing were such a limited run, the authentic ones are impossible to find (think less than a hundred in existence). But there are thousands of replica TRD wing copies from china everywhere, with the carbon fiber inside.
What!? Really!? ye think the trd wing is better looking than stock? Stock spoiler is what completes the Supra. trd wing is just to make it look different for the sake of looking different. Unless the trd wing puts out downforce and ye need that downforce for racing then sure go ahead put it on, aesthetic wise no, just no.
For me supra. Just love the 2JZ BOV sound on the tuned ones and the single big turbo swap. In finland (funnily) i have saw some R32s but never the supra. Also i grew up with Toyota so this wasn´t a big decicion.
@@ACommenterOnRU-vid Yes but you clearly didnt read my comment. In the OP i didnt say that BOV is part of the engine? I said that i love the BOV sound of some supras
@@deeku3385 oh no i clearly understood. You wrote you love the 2JZ bov sound AS IF the bov sound from the 2JZ is unique and different from other engines. Which you are totally wrong and you assume all bov from a 2JZ will sound the same. The bov has NOTHING to do with the engine, the bov sound is unique to the bov ITSELF ... You can put 5 different bov's on the 2JZ and all 5 will sound different. At that point you will then say i love the "X" brand bov ... it sounds good.
Andrew Lopez They just made a new nsx. I'm looking at the back of a white one from my back porch. My neighbor bought one for his exotic car rental company. Apparently they drive very well.
this is a high quality review and comparison of this two legends i can listen to him talking about this cars till they find a treatment of the covid 19
