What an awesome video! Thank you so much for having me guys! I had such a good time and my board is absolutely awesome! It’s all midi programmed up now with 2 krakens. Sounds huge! Lots of love to you guys! Stay safe! ❤️❤️❤️
Rabea, I loved this. you are such an inspiring player. I've bought everything you have put out. I'd even pay to listen to you try a guitar out at my local music shop. Keep creating, we are all grateful.
Rabea Massaad great episode - awesome board and fantastic playing. You becoming one of those guys I can identify by listening to 30 sec of your playing. Carry on mate!
Dan is such a romantic. When Bea was doing the swells he just closed his eyes and sat in it like he'd never heard of That Pedal Show. I love the way he loves sound. It's such a pure thing. God love you Mr. Steinhardt. I very much appreciate your passion.
Steven Pippin that’s actually something I love about watching Rabea play too. You can always see while he’s playing that he’s not actually thinking SO much about where his fingers are and where he’s going next, you SEE him listening and trying to sound the best.
Steven Pippin I feel the same way, I do the same thing when I listen to Bea and I’m glad that I’m not the only one. He’s just so great with swells and pads and enormous soundscapes. I think Dans reaction to Beas tone truly shows just how amazing and well crafted it is.
Not an ounce of envy or resentment in our Dan - or Mick, for that matter. Just love for the music. Admirable. As the man said: "Without music, life would be a mistake!"
I like how Dan reacts to people like Rabea playing. He's like an old black woman at a southern Baptist Church. Eyes closed waiting to shout amen while the pastor gets excited.
Another over used statement is, ' On another level ' but with Rabea's previous history of hard graft and conscious effort to learn his craft the saying is on point with him! Simply just amazing to witness the brilliance of his sculpture with guitar sounds & dynamics! Props also go out to Dan & his ingenuity to design and build the core GigRig facility to enable this mastery! Much needed break from the madness of the world. Thanks to everyone for my warm smile whilst watching. Peace.
The ending riff of prayermonger gives chills every time I ear it, what an amazing song. Congrats Rabea, Ben and Dave. Great episode TPS, a breath of fresh air in this troubled times.
This is totally not the type of music I would listen to being an old classic rocker but I watched the whole of this episode. I was amazed at some of the sounds coming out of that rig. Bea is an epic player who' s passion clearly shows and I for one hope he has an equally epic future he should be right up there. Totally nice, friendly chap I appreciate his skill. Dan and Mick this is probably one of the best episodes if not the best you have done. I am dumbfounded thank you for this I don't think in all my years I have been so moved listening to something and opening my eyes to something new this coming from a player (30 watt amp Gibson Les Paul and overdrive). Epic. Cheers.
if you want stuff like this but maybe less metallic check out what's known as post-rock. Try bands like "godspeed you! black emperor" and they're 2001 album "lift your skinny fists like antennas to heaven" (long names haha). It's intensely emotional and moving music with ambient guitars and strings that build to colossal climaxes. also of course check out Rabea's band Toska
@@mrclarksix +1 Check out Karnivool... they're incredible. Although id say Asymetry is perhaps their harder of the albums to get into depending on what you're used to, I only mean in terms of being the most atmospheric and then working backwards in that sense if you get me. It is still a fantastic album by all accounts! And a fantastic bunch of guys too. Id actually say Themata is my favorite of theirs, if only because of the memories, an epic album!
This is one of the best episodes you guys have ever done. A masterclass in how to do high gain with an integrated amp/board setup, and some of the best sounds. If you haven't listened with headphones do it now! Serious props to Rabea for the ideas and the playing.
love rabea, and i love that i can hear his sound more raw through this video; when he first turned on the POG my eyes started watering a little. sounds so huge
I’ve found over the years that while shredding will get some compliments and it’s flashy, it won’t get the awestruck reactions that Rabea gets, because what’s he’s doing is on a whole other level and I’m with you. I strive to play like him as much as I can, shredding isn’t half as much fun
When I first stumbled across Rabea, I found that whilst I truly love heavy guitar tones and metal beastliness, I didn't really connect with him or his playing - what's really apparent from this video is that he has matured into an absolutely cracking player, and an all round genuine lovely human being. No ego, no pretence, just a genuine love and passion for his music. Consider me connected!
The way Dan sits and listens to Bea play is exactly how I listen to Bea play. He is one of my very favorite players ever. I love his style and his tones, and they've influenced me a lot, and I've only just heard of him in the last several years. But that feeling of just closing my eyes and being immersed in that blanket of sound never leaves me. I love this episode. Thank all 3 of you (and everyone else involved) for doing this. I love all of you.
Hiding the dB meter behind the 'Fro suggests you guys were kicking some noise. Rabea has some of the most amazing tones right now, such a diverse and gifted player and an absolute inspiration to listen to
@@fedup3449 Thanks for trying to spread cheer. I'm sorry you've lost your trust in the media, government, etc. but you are mistaken; there is no conspiracy this time.
It's the same height & depth of the smaller Strymons. Mine sits fairly seamlessly between a Deco & Blue Sky. It's just wider is all, due to the 3 footswitches.
I know that feel. Once I replaced all my pedals with Way Huge pedals and placed them side by side. It looked gorgeous. But I came back to different pedals because they look funnier lol
Hope you guys are all safe, and hopefully it won’t be too long until you’re back on the grind. This period has caused me to take apart my board and put it back together differently five times.
Rabea is one of my favorite dudes on the internet and this was such a cool episode to watch. As always, love you guys and thanks for the amazing content! :D So happy I found this channel.
Anybody else notice Mr. Massaad acting just like a kid in a candy store? Awesome stuff, seeing the child-like joy in the way you were all into this build is certainly a bright spot in these uncertain times, thanks for doing your small part in making people's day a little better!
I love how Rabea can take these fusion metal tones that blow the minds of old school players but properly explain how the tone is crafted. incredible player and super down to earth guy. Love that number 6 pad as well!
Bea is on the way to guitar superstardom, and totally deserves every reward that comes his way. What’s most impressive is that he has achieved an epic and instantly recogniseable sound without relying on his prodigious shredding skills. Love this guy. Looking forward to seeing Toska at the Brudenell in Leeds when all this is over!
Rabea's playing at the end of the video reminds me of Jimi at Monterey Pop Festival. Not so much the tone...or the playing really but more so because it made me set my guitar on fire. Because that was raw, pure, emotive and as a massive fan of That Pedal Show, Mick, Dan and Rabea thank you so much for this. Truly inspiring
David Morisset Sometimes... other times the pedals are an integral part of the “instrument” and without them it’s simply not the same instrument and doesn’t work.
wondering what the dislikes are about? don't like the build? don't like the artist? don't like the playing/music? wtf??? i see the same on Henning's videos, people putting dislikes when they should actually not put anything or a like... not my music, but can appreciate the ability, work etc!
I just started watching and I'm reminded of just how much weight Rabea lost a few years ago. Great to see him keeping it off, dude looks healthy! I weighed probably close to 240 most of my 20s, forced myself to drop down to 170 when I got diagnosed with hips needed replacing when I was 30. It's not easy to maintain, but damn Rab! Once we get bands playing shows again maybe a little love in Portland?
Today someone held the door for me. I said thank you, and they responded, "pay it forward," so here goes: you guys are a wealth of information and experience and you're incredibly entertaining, thank you for all that you've passed along to the reset of us!
I’m glad this video showcases just how colossal, and massive his sound is. I mean he’s defiantly known of course, but I don’t think people really realize sometimes just how good Bea really is. He gets in my opinion some of the best ambient as well as high gain tones of anyone I’ve ever heard, and I listen to a ton of music of all genres. Bea is really something special!
Rabea’s one of those players that feels it to the point of making you feel it in your bones too. If you say you can listen to him without your eyes closed, you’re either lying or you’re doing something wrong in your life.
YES! YES! YES!!!! It's probably not too much of a stretch to say it's a minority of TPS viewers whose main musical love is heavier prog/instrumental guitar stuff, though my own musical tastes do run the gamut. But Bea and Toska's stuff is squarely in my wheelhouse. It's been so satisfying to watch Bea's career blossom over these last few years. He is most assuredly the real deal, appears to be a truly decent human being and has become an incredible tonesmith. Same can be said for Dan and Mick - nice people working hard and sharing their passions = success finding like-minded audiences on the tube. Truly awesome episode - fave line might be Bea's remark about his pedal board resembling a Google server farm. lol Bea, for sure, you're tailor made to write soundtracks and scores for films - I won't be a bit surprised to see your name associated with people like Denis Villeneuve. Grand, sonically diverse music that you compose is perfect for equally epic sci-fi type films. Or even better, you might follow in Mick Gordon's footsteps and compose video game scores. Inevitable.... :) Cheers guys and stay safe....
Yeah, I'm stuck somewhere between 80s hair metal grind and crunchy year 2k full chording rock. My tones could just about all work for metal if played with the right technique, and not too far off of Rabea's core gain tone.
Love the Edgar Allan Poe T-Shirt- “My sense of hearing especially became more powerful. I could hear sounds I had never heard before. I heard sounds from heaven; and I heard sounds from hell!”
I‘ve been stuck in my home alone for the past two and a half weeks now and going batty without any human interaction. Thanks for your videos guys! It reminds me of normal times.
Been listening to Toska for a few years now and no one plays guitar like Rabea. 51:42 until the end is some of the best guitar work I've ever heard. Insane stuff, mate.
The guitar Rab plays is amazing! I hate signature guitars but I'm considering getting one. I'd have liked to have seen gold frets on it tho (Jescar EVO Gold) rather than silver stainless...
34:53 that really gave me goosebumps. This is like seeing Jimi with his first octavia/wah setup and getting music out of it. Bea, to me, is like the metal Jimi. He’s just going out there and creating new musicalities for himself. We can all but tag along and enjoy the changes it brings for the rest of us :) Absolutely love Rabea!
That pedalboard looks expensive, but sounds totally mind-blowing. Rabea suits these effects to a T. If I won the lottery, I'd buy 300 line 6 DL4s! No joke! I kid you not, I'd literally just have a line 6 dl-4 a digitech whammy and a boss tuner on my pedalboard running through a Peavey Invective. If only the line 6 DL-4 wouldn't break so easily. What do you guys think of the line 6 DL-4?
Perfect episode for my morning coffee. Feeling particularly isolated today. Thanks for working so hard on creating this fantastic, genuine content fellas!
Give me patch 6 and some of those Waza-Air headphones. It would be transcendent At about 35:38 I was seeing a jiggly slo-mo of planet Earth in its death throes. The atmosphere, oceans and ice caps cooking off in a ball of vapor. Then the plates slowly coming apart at the seams to expose the molten magma underneath and finally the core exploding under the release of pressure.but he didn't hit that last cataclysmic chord. Damn! I saw Dan speechless. Mick wiping away a tear and Rabea going. yeah I might use that in the beginning of a solo or maybe a for a full measure. I swear, the only thing not understated about Rabea is his playing. FMTT, he slays me
"How do you keep your bottom tight?" Mick and Dan are used to play on vintage style gear with open back cabs and a certain type of speakers. Modern high gain amps and speaker/cabs are made to be tight. Rabea is great and his tone is fantastic but I don't know many "modern high gain" type fellas struggling with the tightness of their bottom. Just a thought
I fully blame That Pedal Show and Rabea Massaad for inspiring me to learn guitar. This episode is like a throwback to over two years ago when I was ravenously consuming back-episodes of That Pedal Show, Rabea Massaad, and Anderton's. I'm really happy to see and hear you collaborate and continue to inspire. Thank you so much!
Another factor that affects the tightness of the bottom end is the quality of one's power amp (it's usually not so much a problem with the preamp). Strong, clean power outputs are what it takes to make the speaker cones move accurately. Quick, loud-to-silence-to-loud riffing demands the speaker cones to get up to speed from doing almost nothing to being out at maximum extension, and a higher watt amp will have more strength to move the cones accurately. To avoid a flubby bottom end, the power amp section needs enough power to move the cones and push the air. It's not as much about how loudly you want to play as it is about moving the air with accuracy. A general rule of thumb: the heavier the amp, the better - (its weight not its tone). More specifically, you want large, heavy transformers and big capacitors because for those, physical size matters.
Rabea has some of the best voicing. Breaks all the divides. If he was playing clean with a swing it would sound like modern jazz. Such great Harmony concepts
When I hear the kind of sounds that Rebea comes up with I feel like my body is hit with an atomic bomb leaving nothing but bones behind like Sarah O’Conner in terminator 2.
Such an inspirational modern day guitarist, a pedalboard Jedi. Toska's album easily sits alongside the best of Tool, Mastodon and Gojira in my prog metal playlist.
Yo I am freaking gay for Rabea man. Had the privilege to attend a guitar clinic by him and Rob at Guitar Center NYC. I nearly pissed myself when I met him. The tone, the feel, the stank, and the bloody RIFFS.. makes pull all kinds of faces. Awesome video and even more awesome pedalboard build! Stay safe you guys and thank you for all you do 🤘🏼🤘🏼
I’ve been a big fan of Rebea for years now starting with his work in Dorje with Rob Chapman and the other members of his current band Toska. He definitely has a very cool style and skill beyond compare. I hope that when this whole COVID-19 thing is over he and Toska can tour in the states I would love to see them live.
Laughing my tits off already, and we'de only at 1:52 "I'll give him a call" (on speed dial) and then SOUND OBVIOUSLY IN THE SAME ROOM! And then... mmmmmm flight cases with twist lock and wheels, I love them, dirty....(Yeah, I'm a flight case pervert) .Then "It's like a Google server farm but..." No, becase A GSF will never create anything, and you will! And finally, watching D&M as Rabea plays, makes me realise yet again how much these guys LOVE guitar, any guitar, all guitar. It's a joy to behold, and joy is a precious thing. Love to you all in these difficult times.
I don't comment much but wow... Amazing tones, incredible playing, and I just loved seeing Dan and Mick react each time Bea casually threw out another epic sound.
