Does anyone else remember when Howie Long said that the Raiders' coaching staff, Tom Flores, et al, and Al Davis and the people in the head office actually had expectations of the Raiders going to the Superbowl? Does anyone think Josh McDaniels or Mark Davis are ever expecting that?

No, we are certainly not ok. I've been helping to build Raider Nation since September 23, 1967 when I watched Daryl Lamonica take his first snap u der center as a Raider on opening day. Hope that establishes my creds. That being said, we haven't had a GOOD team since we lost the Super Bowl to Chucky, and yes he did use his knowledge against us and no, Callahan wasn't smart enough to change up the scheme even though he was facing the guy who built the team he was coaching.We currently are fielding in my opinion, arguably the worst team in Raiders history thanks in no small part to Coach McNumbnuts. We have some stellar players but 3 or 4 guys can't carry the team. They axed DC4 apparently because he wasn't capable of putting up 30 or more points per game and the "genius" wasn't utilizing some very basic strategies that my pee wees can comprehend. So he pissed off the best WR in the league, screwed over the best RB in the league and offered an end of career DE to help Maxx and then hired a QB who has had one healthy season in nine years.Where does that leave us? The Las Vegas Patriots. They can kiss my red skin ass. Fire Mark!

The offensive line decisions on this team make me so mad. Dylan Parham played great at right guard during the pre season, and Alex Bars is an absolute turnstile who shouldnt be on the team.

The reason we had so many draws on 1st and 2nd with 2 high safeties was because Devante Adams was lined up at receiver. Credit where credit is due. Adams and Jacobs put defenses in a bind where they could align to cover one or the other and Carr would check into the best play. The predicament of having two #1 players at RB and WR made the Raider offense work.

One of my best predictions last offseason was saying the Raiders would be below 0.500. I thought that because I didn’t have faith in the O-line and especially not in the defense. And I think the numbers you gave might undersell how bad the defense was. Bottom 5 in terms of yards and points allowed per drive, bottom 3 in TOs and sacks. So they couldn’t stop anything and didn’t make big plays to make up for it. That’s not even mentioning them getting a ton of penalties for the millionth straight year. And I honestly doubt any of that changes this season.

Also we played ‘cover 0’ every play on defense cause our secondary can’t turn their heads to find the ball so they just run alongside wide receivers until they see them make a catch then they attempt to tackle. Can’t believe my high school has a waaaaay better coached secondary compared to my raiders.

I’m 23, guess how many times I’ve seen this team win more than 6 games in my life time. It’s been tough but I wouldn’t trade it for anything else. I just hope I can see them win true big one w my pops.

Carr’s contract forced their hand early. It was Dave Z fault for Carr’s contract extension which gave him the no-trade clause a month before the season. If the Raiders didn't cut Carr by the third day of the new year then the Raiders would have been on the hook for over 40 mil guarantee.

The problem with this current Raiders team starts with making the playoffs in 2021. It gave the organization false hope that the formula was repeatable or that we were a couple pieces away. That’s why the chandler jones and DA moves happened. Feel like Davis was sold a dream and when it failed now the team is trying scramble and save face. Which is why as fan it’s so confusing, are we building to future or trying to win now? It feels like neither

I don’t know what’s the “mystery” here. There is no way the Raiders will do anything but regress with Josh McDaniels still coaching the team.

Carr’s contract was re-done before last season. It gave the Raiders a 1-year out in case it didn’t work with McDaniels. It was imperfect, but they chose to extend him because they didn’t want to deal with optics of Carr playing on last yr of contract with no injury guaranty while Ziegler was handing out monopoly money (see Waller/Renfrow contracts). Chandler Jones contract is disaster. Davante deal is no good on re-building team also forfeited 1st and 2nd round pics on depleted roster. Raiders are eating over $30M in dead cap this yr for players who are no longer on team. Jimmy G is bridge insurance. Davis doesn’t want to fire coach or he will be on his 6th coach in 10 years. In summary, it’s a disaster. Oh yea, and Mahomes is in your division for another 10 years.

Raider nation have been okay since the week before the Superbowl of 02. We were almost good until Carr broke his leg that one year. Nothing about this has been okay.

I think they've drafted well the last two years, but whether or not JMD can put it all together remains to be seen.

It’s pretty clear that they had absolutely no plan once Brady retired, they panicked and signed Jimmy because he’s gonna run the system the way McDaniels wants. Let’s ignore the fact that Jimmy hasn’t played in this since he was on the Patriots and he even came out and said “it’s like relearning French” so he doesn’t know what’s goin on either. We’re doing great over here.

The Raiders have to be the biggest mystery in the NFL - they're trying to slowly build a talented roster... but they also need to win now to sell tickets in their shiny new stadium, and in order to not waste the last great years of Davante's career. The roster has serious talent gaps, but they were there last season... and then you have to consider that if they didn't blow all those leads, they were actually in with a shot of winning 15 of the 17 games, and the defense gradually improved. But then you also have to consider they let their best TE, best CB, best DT, best LB, and best Safety leave in FA. The front office seems to make moves in the anticipation of things happening, that don't then pan out... they let Carr go, assuming they could trade him for picks and get Brady - neither happened. They signed Meyers in the anticipation they could trade Renfrow and get out of that silly deal they signed him to - no one bit and they're stuck with him and an insanely expensive WR room. The floor and ceiling for this team have the widest gap I've ever seen... If Jimmy isn't fit, if Josh holds out, and if the defense is just Maxx and a bunch of nothing, if the change in long snapper wrecks the best kicker/punter duo in the league... then my floor for this team is 2 wins. If Jimmy stays fit, If Josh repeats last season, and if the defense really comes together under Graham - someone shows up as a legit outside corner, and Deablo becomes a top 10 MLB... then my ceiling for this team is 10 wins.

They did not want to win any more games, they wanted to send a clear message to Carr and the league that it was over - Look at the contract, this was always going to be an option. Addressing your questions on the whole Jimmy/Carr stuff. Imo I don't think it was a panic move tbh. There is certainty an argument for it but I don't see it that way. We moved on from Derek cuz his play didn't really justify his contract. In Jimmy you are getting almost the same player for a fraction of the cost (with hopefully more comfort in the system). Even before they changed the contract, it was pretty team friendly to begin with. Maybe they were counting on Brady, but I think the jimmy move was the front office's way of saying we aren't tanking, we are rebuilding but giving our team a chance to be competitive and maybe a playoff contender if everything works out perfectly. That is reflective in our free agency and draft. Ziegler has been preaching all offseason about building a team through the draft and supplementing with free agency (which they should). That's why we didn't go free agent chasing with huge contracts, that was the last regime's mistake. If you are always counting on free agency to fill out your team, your team is never in a good place. I think everyone on the staff knows they are being given time to build the team the right way, as long as progress is being shown year to year, but this group is also trying to win now.

There is no team with less enthusiasm than the Raiders. Wasting Davante Adams, Max Crosby and Josh Jacobs is a damn crime

As a raiders fan I’m more excited about this year than i have been the last 3 barring last year with the addition of Adams. DC has been on the decline in numbers the last 4 years. I’m sorry but 3400 yards and 20ish tds with 15 plus turnovers a season just aren’t some godly numbers that are irreplaceable. I think Jimmy G assuming he stays healthy (unlikely), could easily replicate those numbers, with less turnovers and better efficiency in the redzone. I’m sorry but i can’t help but to feel we win a few of the big blown leads we had if we would have had jimmy last season. Realistically this may be Jimmy’s 2nd best offensive skill group he’s had in his career behind last years 9ers squad. I fully believe Josh jacobs will play. Rb shelf life is just too short to pass up a 10million dollar payday. The former regime set us up to have this frail core that we had, terrible contracts and even worse drafting the last 6 years. I’m not surprised we are sort of feeling the effects of that catching up. I can see us going anywhere from 5-12 to 9-7 this season. Really depends on if Jimmy G can stay healthy and if our defense can make any sort of improvement in the secondary from being ranked 2nd to last.

I'm disappointed about Mack leaving. It wasn't JUST the Run game. He was one hell of a gunner on special teams. For the money as well. He could have had so much success with JImmy G with short route size mismatches. He was basically hybrid. And Dave Ziegler just did an interview where he spoke about a player who could add value in more than one role. SO why not hold onto Mack? Did it have to be Meyers or Hollins?

I'm surprised you didn't mention or factor in that Josh Jacobs has not signed the franchise tag yet. Last I heard, he and the raiders aren't even talking, unlike Barkley and the Giants. I know there's still time and I know you made this vid weeks earlier, so maybe you assumed he would sign. But I don't know if that will actually be the case. So right now, no starting QB and no starting RB. Should be a good year.

So...this may be a late response but I hope it provides clarity from someone who follows closely. The best way I can describe the Derek Carr breakup is to remind you of Russell Westbrook in the NBA. Incredibly talented, plays hard, plays through injury, and gives the fans hope, but inconsistent bad decisions (aka doing too much) kept him from being a winning QB. TB12 was media rumors and driven by Gronk and Dana White playing GM in a podcast the year before. Never really on the table. Darren Waller is talented but more Jimmy Graham than Gronk and the fact that the coaches demanded he do the dirty work Gruden let him pass on drove a rift between them. He told them to fine him instead of getting treatment in the bye week and disappeared. It was clear he didn't wanna play for them. Each of the guys they brought in Epps, Spillane, and Garropolo they outspent the market to get. The steelers and eagles didn't want those guys leaving and while the league was out on Jimmy G...his red zone performance, record, and the fact the the 49ers couldn't keep 1 QB healthy lead me to believe he'll actually be healthy and run a consistent on schedule offense that functions in the redzone. Also, yes, Tillery is IDL and seemed like the reason Chandler Jones had a good final stretch of the season. With adding Marcus Peters, hearing Bennet is likely outside CB2. Meyer is likely TE1. And the rookie DTs are impressing... Overall, I'd raise the floor and ceiling +2, but I'm clearly biased.

I've never despised a Raiders front office more that this one in my 35+ years as a fan. Mark Davis is a weak and ineffectual owner second worse only to Daniel Snyder. Josh McDaniels is one of the worst NFL HC i've ever seen ( id put him in the same league as Rich Kotite and Urban Meyer) Dave Ziegler has no clue what he is doing and would probably be more suited to selling used cars. If this team does better then they did last year, it would be almost as a amazing as winning the superbowl

5 games lost where we had a double digit lead at half. Unless Jimmy G is a bust we should be mediocre solely due to the stars we do have and accounting for a less turnover worthy QB. 9-8 is probably the ceiling tho unless they really get going or hit big on any of the players they drafted or added in free agency. Carr was let go because he was at a crossroads with Mcdaniels and Derek wasn't willing to give us anything. More-or-less because why would he give them anything especially from the team he's going to.

As a Raiders fan… what really upsets me is the organizational standard. If you aim for playoffs then you aren’t making it, and that’s what the Raiders have been doing since 2019. They made it once in 4 years, and twice in 10. This was a team who has won 3 SB’s in its history and not the Lions. That should override any talk of bad coaching or Derek Carr being betrayed.

Hey Brett, can you do me a favor & go back & grade Derek Carr’s performance Vs the Patriots in 2022? Something is majorly OFF with PFF’s grading & I’m not sure why? You quoted Carr’s Big Time Throw percentage which is why I mention PFF. PFF graded Carr at 47.6 for the game Vs the Patriots, his 2nd worst game of the entire season & also I believe didn’t credit him with any Big Time Throws in the game? I have Carr with 3 Big Time Throws in the game. 1. Mack Hollins TD perfect ball placement between 2 defenders, Carr threw it low, so the WR wouldn’t get blown up by the help defender & placed the ball right in front of the trail Defender’s outstretched hand. 2. Down 7 points, 1:54, 4th Quarter, 3rd & 10, ball thrown from his own 10 yard line Carr threw it to opponents 35 yard line, 55 air yards. Hits Hollins hands, who also broke stride at the last second, when he saw the defender, or else it would’ve dropped right over Hollins shoulder, excellently thrown ball. 3. Game tie TD pass to Cole, from 35 yards out, with .32 seconds left in the game. Carr had 1 INT in the game, but that I wouldn’t downgrade Carr for, he executed the play as designed, the only thing that would have stopped it from being a pick 6, is if Carr didn’t execute the play correct. It was obviously something Belichick saw on film and coached up the defender, “if you see this, then just go, break on the passing lane & you will get a pick 6”. The reason this is important, is it shakes my trust in PFF’s grading. I rarely disagree with the grading in any meaningful way, but the grade on this game is SO ridiculous, I need to explain it? It could be me, maybe I’m seeing things, but I really don’t believe I am. Heck, Carr’s following week Vs the Steelers a 1TD 3 INT game was graded 58.3, much higher than his 3TD & 1 INT game Vs the Patriots. It doesn’t make sense & makes me wonder, “what else did they miss this badly”? I reached out to PFF, but I didn’t receive a response. Thanks!
