This is the first in a series of videos in which I scour the internet in search of good sci-fi. As I’m sure you know, there’s plenty of good sci-fi out there but there’s also plenty of crappy sci-fi as well. Throughout the series I will look at some current sci-fi pieces and figure out what makes it good. I’ll be talking about themes, tropes, and concepts of science fiction both good and bad. I’ll probably keep it to one series/film/franchise per episode but we’ll see. I’m gonna break these down into what I consider some of the core mechanics of what makes a good sci-fi narrative. Today we will be talking about “Raised by Wolves”.

Show literally has put me to sleep on several occasions... I don't know if it's not good or bad because I fall asleep everytime when I watch it... I think it's the music and color scheme something about it makes me sleepy. Makes me wanna start using heroin again. Spike my vein... very sleepy show.. I'm tired.... I'm tired

I hate this style of writing where they try to keep the audience on their toes so much that characters do stuff that makes no sense, and there’s no point rooting for anyone because they’ll let you down by doing something completely out of character. There’s also a million plot holes from both a scientific and common sense standpoint. The intro is beautiful. The show is mostly boring.

The first episode of S1 was the best, slowly declined but still worth watching until ep5 (totally lost me) and beyond, then it just became ridiculous and grating with only the bare minimum of reasons to continue watching. I cannot be bothered with a S2, when the latter half of S1 was already so convoluted and disappointing.

I love this show...it reminds me of a 60s sci-fi novel cover by Phillip K dick, espeically how the Androids look when they orginally land on Kepler.

My favorites scene! It's a shame they didn't stick with the set and costume theme. The caps they wore had a retro future flight crew vibe. The complete lack of detail on the rocket inside and out was a vibe I hadn't seen before on screen.

Is it good sci-if? No. It’s terrible. It has all the typical Ridley Scott inconsistent universe rules where stuff just happens because that’s what the lazy writer wanted. The show had a lot of potential but Scott and whoever else had a hand in this couldn’t decide what direction to take it in so they went in all the directions. I won’t spoil anything but the season 1 finale into season 2 opener is utterly insulting to the intelligence of the viewers.

Raised by Wolves is very good scifi - easily the best in a decade or more. It has very good dialogue unpolluted by social justice themes, stunning visuals, an enthralling story and awesome acting - 10/10 score.

I agree. It's diverse sure and here it makes sense. If you were to send of 1000 people to a new planet you would pick as different people as possible race wise. It would increase genetic diversity and reduce how quick inbreeding sets in as the genetics of future children will be very mixed. It never gets preachy and shows both religion and atheism in good and bad lights. It shows how God and the though of him comforts the mind, specially in contrast to the atheist nihilistic world view of death as final. But it also shows how religion can drive someone mad and how the thoughts and voices in your head aren't always god. I really liked the show overall. Season 1 was overall very good. It's hard to rate as there isn't much like it. It's pays homage to Ridley Scott's history in sci fi but it's is own thing. I would say its a solid 8.5/10 overall and totally worth watching. Some go the episodes were a bit slow but they still contributed to the story here and there and I'll take slower pacing any day over underdeveloped characters.

Only watched the first episode and wow it really ramped up to 11 by the end. Hooked, now I just need to find the time to enjoy it.

Too much jump-scary stuff. The concept is good, but it sometimes feels like Ridley is trying to fill in conceptual gaps he left when making the new Alien movies. I think they drag some of the mystery out way too long. Why did it take 9 episodes to learn about the hexagon worshipper weirdos?

the children in the show are annoying but i guess thats accurate and it does fall in line with some of themes in the show and human flaws and they do have there moments ngl maybe its just me but the show over all is great weird complicated but i think thats the point its a weird ancient religious alien world and alien tech and as long as they tie it all together well enough it will be great show in lines of maybe BSG. also its an original IP so thats great
