I love how the GSD is like “can you please move this little thing so i can lay down. I’m suppose to move off my place but he is here”. Meanwhile the Mal is splooted out on his place licking the floor and chewing the leg of the place. Such character in these dogs.
This video should be included in high school curriculum & any mandatory parenting classes across the US as well. Every person who has contact with Amy bred of dog or is required to license their dog should be required to watch this TWICE! Great insight and great advice! Words to live by & I love the straightforward, plain- not sugar coated perspective you have! It's soooo efficient 😊
I'm getting a German Malinois puppy and I'm doing what I can to prepare for it by watching behavior and training videos about the the cross breed and its parent breeds, and your channel is one of the only ones that doesn't come across as trying to make me feel like I'm an idiot who is getting in over my head and should just get a golden retriever. You are upfront about the fact that they are working dogs with working drives, but so far I haven't seen a video from you that comes off as chastising or belittling to people like me who may not be anybody like a cop, security, or rancher who needs the dog for work-work, but still are really enamored of the breed(s) and want a dog with that temperament for other things like being a hiking buddy and personal protection, both of which are important to me given that mountain lions inhabit the area I live and recreate in, and I live alone. Thanks for being realistic about what they are without assuming that everybody getting a mal or some cross version doesn't know what they are doing.
💯 agree there's a time and a place for things! But in Minnesota where we can sit at -20°F to -60°F for a few weeks, I definitely play pups-n-robbers at least 2+3X a day in the house. I'm not heading out for an hour of exercise in the 15 second frostbite to let the zoomies out. Nope. But I also take mine out in the middle of the night when it's warmer- if ya know, ya know. I think consistency and a decent schedule eliminates anxiety for humans as well. Being disciplined is not even close to consequences & I wish more humans understood this difference. Thanks, Haz! 🙏
Well said! There needs to be more trainers saying it the way it is like you. I have a 18 month old Malinois and the most important training has been calmness and impulse control. His ability to control his focus has produced a dog that makes better choices and that, in turn, makes for better working potential.
I would love to see a video covering crate training and the techniques you use. I have followed along enough to trust you . Where do you keep the crate in your home? How long do you use the crate? When is the puppy in the crate? I am only about a month out from getting my first GSD . He is a working line GSD and I want to do this right . I also am looking into your online course. Thanks for the great videos.
I got a European Doberman at 8 weeks and she's a chore. My beloved sweet half American and European Doberman passed at nearly 13 years. I knew nothing about the huge differences between both beautiful pups of mine, and I found out too late. Once they're mine they're here forever cause I love them. But my working Dobie is gonna live with me as a baby girl and her antics must be minimized for me to survive. UGH
So wise! I can't stand it when I see a pic of a new puppy online taking over the couch and people think its so cute. You need to teach boundaries once they get in the house. That same rough house behavior isn't going to be cute when they are a lot bigger and resistant to change because they've always done it.
i have herd from trainers its not good to get 2 puppies at the same time. i just think its twice as much work. I got a 4 month rhodesian ridgeback male and a 6 month pitbul female. i do have some challenges. when u train individually what do u do with the puppy that is not training? do u crate it? i do find myself working with both together at the same time on basic obedience and position changes pretty often but my pit has a very high drive and very good engagement. she gets better everyday.
Can you give me some advice? My 3 year old GS mix stopped eating her food because she’s nervous (her kitten brother steals her food). Now she only accepts eating when I hold the bowl. I separate the cat when it comes to feeding but every time she hears him meow she stops eating and looks for him? She’s very energetic, playful, sweet, and social. I’ve never scold her for eating but only when she’s eating the cat’s food or liter... this has been happening ever since I got our kitten. (4 months)
Not sure if you have a video on this or not, but should you use the same language for commands e.g. German, English, French etc. for all of your dogs, or should you use a different language for each dog? I have heard to use different languages for each of your dogs to prevent confusion between them? What is your take on this? Thanks!!
Respect your working dog. I had a German Short Haired Pointer. Very high energy. A GREAT well trained hunting dog. If he wasn't hunting he was in his place or in a kennel. Or we were playing fetch and then back in his place or kennel. On July 4th 2018 I decided to give him a little space and released him from a heel on my our way to the polebarn to "run around a little" and he was promptly killed by a car in front of my house. He was 5 years old at the time and by FAR the best dog I ever had. If you have a HI prey drive dog please respect those instincts don't get sloppy with your control. I did and it cost me dearly.
People treat their animals like people or more accurately like their children. Stop it . They are animals first. Brother you are the best cant wait to get a dog and have you train it.
Had a friend try and tell me to stop telling my mal to behave all the time...like you I except the same from my dog there is a time and place I dont want him in my company's face be seen and not heard
They looking at u like their crazy human talks to himself to much🤣 i wouldnt have a working dog myself. But the training is very important. Have respect and maners thats all i ask anywere and everywere. They behave fine. Bit chowing i see. Ill get them bones if i were u. Put urself into their shoe. Looking and doing nothing while u are an hyperactive child isnt easy trust me🤣🤣
That’s the point of balance. Everything these dogs do is the at the choice of the owner. The boundaries he has set define their life. You’re right, it would be hugely unfair if he didn’t allow for training, or free time in the house, or just playing outside, but he does, and when he does is at his discretion. I’ve had these working shepherds for decades and they WANT structure, they want boundaries. Just like young kids, they have to have boundaries. Without boundaries you can’t know the difference between right and wrong, praise and consequences...and that holds true whether you’re a 3 month old puppy, or a 2 year old little boy.
Yeah, I’ve always been annoyed by “Maigator” “Land Shark” “Fur Missle” etc. They’rejust a dog an there’s literally no legitimate similarities between a Malinois and an Aligator.
