Here is a video i made to help all you Ram owners with the dreaded abs code c0022-01. This was on a 2017 ram 5500 cummings. The complaint will be abs light and traction control light flashing on when hitting bumps or just randomly coming on. this causes abs and traction control to stop working as well as cruise control.. hope this video helps!

Man, you are my hero for the year! On my 2018 2500 RAM Diesel I have lived with the ding, ding, ding and cruise control turning off for about 3 years now. I knew it was an electrical contact problem by the symptoms and code in the OBD (jarring the motor during driving and "ABS pump motor general failure"). I have researched how to fix this for 2 years and your video is the only one I found that truly addressed my problem. Using feeler gauges to separate the pistons during re-assembly is JUST PURE GENIUS. I had to sand both the broad side and narrow side as my one sticky brush as it was binding top to bottom. The other brush had plenty of slop and moved freely. By the way, the brushes seem to be Graphite-Copper composition, therefore no lubrication needed because of the graphite. Thanks.

Soo glad to hear that! Put this video out there just to help people! Glad to hear it has been! It’s relatively a simple fix I can’t believe Ram has “figured” it out… thanks for the comment!

Exactly what it was on my 2018. Tapped the motor when running. Light out. I'll disassemble when time. Thanks bud. Hell of a diagnosis.

Well done! If that is not The issue, it is definitely one of the issues. My 2018 3500 is doing the same thing. I will talk to Ram first but I don't hold much hope. Thanks!

Thank you so much for figuring this out! I could say you saved me a lot of money..... and that would be true, but a replacement ABS module is not even available. I was able to remove the motor without disconnecting any of the brake lines! I then opened the motor (it just slides apart) found that one brush was stuck and causing my Ding Ding Ding. Instead of pulling the brushes out though, I used a Dremel with very small carbide bit to remove the single little piece of metal over the top of the brush holder. I then spread the brush holder (just a very small amount) and the brush snapped forward! made sure it would move freely and tested the motor. Spins like a champ and put it back in the module. Fired it up and all good. Been driving it for a couple of days with no more issues! Getting the motor back into the hole with the two plungers was going to be an issue I though, but your feeler gauge method worked perfect! Thanks again!

I did mine today. Went ride around hitting bumps and pressing the brakes hard sometimes to see if it would kick back on but never did. I’ll do and update in about a week or two. Thanks Cheeseman1!!! One of my bushing was fairly moving and the other was really hard to even get it out to sand it down. I’m more than certain that was the problem. I did it one the truck without taking it off. It was hard to get it back in but was well worth it. I definitely did not want to bleed the brakes.

Glad to hear that! If i can help one person it was worth it! Keep us posted on how it goes! It’s been two months and still no issue for the truck I did so that’s awesome!

Did mine today and it fixed mine. Mine was older and took a minute to separate. I couldn’t use air but pried a flat head under the three tabs slowly to separate. Also putting back together you may need to lube that gaskets. Great video and it helped me. I had one side ticking and was able to put it back in without removing the HCU by my self. It takes a min to line the shims up and get it in. Take the tire off becuase you will get frustrated. The little extra room is worth it. I used 5 minute epoxy to resecure the slide holders in. Make sure you don’t get epoxy in the winding or in the slot holder to prevent it from moving. Wasn’t a bad job and no more lights. Thanks for the video it was very helpful.

So you took the motor off without removing anything else from the truck?
@jordanstaal7238
@jordanstaal7238 5 месяцев назад
@@baraklee263there’s an internal torque bolt behind the brake lines on the right side and left side behind the bracket of the motor that needs to be removed.
@cheeesman1
@cheeesman1 5 месяцев назад
Yes that is correct! Then you won’t have to bleed the brakes at all!

I removed the wheel, and wheel well plastic but other than that you can get the motor off without having to remove the whole assembly!

I just dealt with Chrysler Fiat today and was told so sorry, we aren’t going to help you. Because you see it is NOT A SAFETY ISSUE, they will not recall this. Since I haul a 16k pound 5th wheel with my almost 9k pound 2018 Ram 3500, I struggle with this not being a safety issue. Not sure what to do next but they don't care. Leaving it to be dealt with by the lucky owners.

Awesome video. I have a 1500 with the exact same symptoms. I'm certain is the same motor issue so I'd like to remove it and perform this repair. The problem is on the 1500, the motor is attached completely different to the HCU rather than the two screws. It also looks like some of the lines might be in the way. This repair is all over the heavy duty forums, but I can't find anything specifically for the half tons other than replacing the whole assembly. As anyone attempted this repair on a 1500?

Hello Clint, I watched your video and I found it very interesting, I have a 2018 RAM 2500 diesel with the same problem in the video and I followed the instructions you indicate and I had the same problem with the brushes. I'm going to mount it to see how it turns out, was the problem completely corrected on yours???

great video , thank you do you need to disconnect brake lines or bleed the system after it goes back together since its the brake system
@RippinRootsLLC
@RippinRootsLLC 4 месяца назад
As long as you did not disconnect the brake lines and just removed the motor you do not need to bleed the brakes since you did not introduce any air into the system! Hope this helps!

I wonder if you can put power to the ABS connection on the motor to see if it works after you sanded the brushs ??
@RippinRootsLLC
@RippinRootsLLC 4 месяца назад
I don’t see why not, we would test, blower motors and actuators by using that method. Probably be a smart idea to use a a fuse or meter source just in case the motor is bad. But that would be an easy way to test, whether or not the repair is working.

Did you have to do a computer brake bleed when you put the module back in or only bleed from the calipers?
@RippinRootsLLC
@RippinRootsLLC 2 месяца назад
I bleed at the and module. It was a trick we did in the shop. So once together bleed the two lines from the master by pressing brake and holding and loosening the line from the module just enough for the air/brake fluid to bleed out. Close them up then let the pedal up. Do that again till no air and then do it to the others. You can do a computer bleed if you have the ability but once i did the bleed like that it was totally fine! You can however do it without removing any brake lines from the module.

I would recheck that the brush mounts got reattached right. It’s also possible there is another issue as well. These trucks also have abs module issues as well

How you get that cover off
@cheeesman1
@cheeesman1 5 месяцев назад
I am assuming you meet the motor cover? I lightly put the shaft in a vise with a rag to protect the shaft and slightly pried on the metal housing as the rubber grommet around f the motor is all that holds it in. Hope this helps!
