Range Rover Classic LWB 1995 Tire carrier

This is the second tire carrier I built for a friend. Using the existing Rover time bumper (RTE). This one is slightly different from the first one I built. But it has the exact same features. But it hold one gas can, uses the factory lug nuts, and has gas shocks to lock the carrier in place. Simple and compact. P-Fab designs. Bay Area California.

Thank you. Yeah I joined a local land rover club and guys started asking if I could build stuff out of metal. I told them yes but I have never done anything to that scale and they trusted me with their rigs. So this was one of many I had built. I have others on my channel. Thanks for subbing to me. These are a little old but great ones to reflect back on time to time.

@@dogsadventures232 Sorry I missed this message. I try to reply to as many comments as possible. I would love to this on any vehicle but with the market they way it is these days there is so many off-road applications for the popular vehicles like Toyota, Jeep, Chevy, Ford and Dodge. Which covers the main vehicles out there. There is a limited market for the ones I didn't list which I could easily build for. I was friends with a large Bay area Land Rover group who saw what I had built for my close friends. They decided to put me on their projects and I took as many jobs I could. I don't make a living off these builds. I have a family at home and my free time is now limited but I make it work. I'm willing to take on more work. If you can deal with my schedule I can put you in my books.

I've updated my build with a better Jerry can holder. If your still interested I can build on my donor classic and you can drive up to northern Cali for the final install. This is a weld on bumper or I can modify your own bumper like in this video. But with your bumper this is done on site since I can't take your measurements by pictures. Unless you ship me your bumper but then that is almost a waste of money. Either way. I can build one here. Hit me up.
@joecuevas8840
@joecuevas8840 4 года назад
What wall thickness did you use ? My bumper is made from 3/16. Thinking 1/8. Dont want it too heavy but I want it strong.
@PFab
@PFab 4 года назад
I always use 3/16" for all my tubes. If you can't find that and have to use 1/8" tube you need to reinforce the sections that have long runs with no support. They will twist and crack over time. There's a lot of moving parts with a heavy tire and gas can. Just think about losing that on a long trial and not knowing if it will last the way home. Sometimes you have to give up weight for strength.

Ever have any issues with that latch opening on its own while driving? And what size square tubing did you use?
@PFab
@PFab 3 года назад
Sorry for the late response. For some reason my notifications are not coming in here. I have not had any issues with that. I use 2x2 inch tubing 3/16 wall mild steel.
@GotScout

You did ALL that welding directly on the spindle? That is how they crystalize so they break later. This was 2012... so did it break yet? For others... sleeve the spindle in DOM and weld that!
@PFab
@PFab 2 года назад
Nope. Still going. I haven't seen or heard any break. Maybe you are buying the cheaper model spindles? Just my 2 cents. But thanks for watching.
@GotScout
@GotScout 2 года назад
@@PFab mine don't break, I only run the SLEEVED 1.75" massive ones from Comp4x4, because so many others from others do break. All that heat you are sinking into the spindle, your only support, is the issue. But happy luck has held for you. But for (others) the future, plug welds to a dom sleeve, and then welding to that, is the safety.

Matthew Shafer thank you. I used the spindles from AtoZ fabrication. I used their "mega" version which is rated for 3500#. It was worth the upgrade. www.amazon.com/AtoZ-Fabrication-Carrier-Hinge-Spindle/dp/B01K6JYWK8

My messages are not notifying me of these messages. Most likely email related since I don't use my original gmail account. So sorry. I'm not sure about your current setup. But these are welded onto a steel bumper. And you would need your bumper to allow for the extra stress and sized correctly.

@PFab
@PFab 3 года назад
So something similar to this would be up to $1800. It all depends on parts versus labor. This was a bumper the customer provided and it was a good platform to build from. If you don't have a good platform then you would need one. Prices are adjusted accordingly. A complete system like this is $1800. I have updated the Jerry can holder to the same style I build for the LR3 and LR4. I'll link it here... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-H-51uByqBJM.html

Awesome job mate, I am from ecuador so pretty hard that you build one for me, but I have some question if you can help me I will appreciate. First I see you weld the hinge sleeve only in one side to the bumper do you think one side welding is good enough? I think is weight and space efficient but not sure how it will hold. The other question is how quite is the bumper in bad roads do you recommend that closing system or do you think is better to put a latch for each side attached to the bumper and the las one which is the thinnest thick of metal sheet you think is reliable for constructing the bumper. Thanks hopefully you can give me a hand this is my car www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/135951-ExPo-70-Series-Registry?p=2086211#post2086211

Wow Felipe! That's great. And thank you. I'm in California so yes you are correct. I think they way I have it in this video would be the safest and strongest. I would not change a thing. I use 2 inch square tubing with a 3/16 wall thickness. I would recommend the same thickness (3/16) for the bumper as well. Any thinner and your just asking for issues later. the bigger tires can do some damage to the bumper if it's not reinforced correctly. You will have a heavy bumper but you will not regret it. No noises while driving on heavily rough roads. I've seen many trials in this and no complaints. the latch is a rated for 4,000 lbs. hope this helps and if you need more ideas please feel free to ask about anything. good luck.
