Dive into the details with us, and don't forget to weigh in on the comments below. Should we greenlight this wild idea or have we totally gone off the deep end? Your feedback will help steer our next move!

ABSOUTELY do it! I've converted my 2016 supercharged L405 into a quite capable offroad/overlanding rig--and I LOVE it. I can only imagine what you'd be able to do. The only real "mechanical" thing I did was to change out the wheels/tires--that's the biggest weakness of the "stock" L405. Smallest rim I can use is a 20" because of the huge brake calipers (not sure if a non-supercharged can go below that). I installed 2" Johnson lift rods, which allows me to run 275/55 R 20 BFG All Terrains. It's a 6" sidewall, basically, plus the additional all terrain treads. The air suspension is amazing; the hill descent is amazing. There's even an "extended" level on the suspension when the vehicle senses it's high-centered. Few people know about it. It raises your rig another 2.75" (70mm) to clear the obstacle--LITERALLY giving you 13.9" of total ground clearance on a stock tire size. A stock Jeep Rubicon's ground clearance: 10.8," and no further help from an air suspension if you get high-centered. I've set it up w a roof top tent (iKamper), a fridge, etc. I've taken it all over the Southwestern US & Rocky Mountains. One of those things that money can't buy: taking your L405 into the backcountry and seeing the reactions of the Jeep, Bronco, or even Defender drivers in "their" territory. Priceless. And to pay for the mods, use MasterCard 🙂

As an owner of a L405 (2020), looking forward to seeing what you can do with this build. These cars are incredibly capable off road. The other day during a flash snow storm I had to climb a very steep snow covered road that was as slick as ice. I was stopped at the bottom behind 2 other cars that could not make it up the hill. I went up the hill without any noticeable wheel slip. It was truly impressive!

It’s not a bad idea. The L406 is a pretty known commodity. The prices are coming down now so I’ll bet the demand will increase. It’s a lot of car for the money, especially compared to a new defender.

Go for it! I’d love to see one of these as built up as one can go and show people what these can really do besides going to the grocery store or soccer games. I’d love to see if a proper bumper could be put on one., or some kind of guard. Lets go!

I'm looking at buying one (TDV8 rather than SC) here in the UK. Prices have tumbled in the last few months, to the point where the 405 is now a cheap option! As such, and certainly with the older models, I think it's a no-brainer. Looking forward to following your progress

I think there is a strong market for these for people who do off-road adjacent things but not necessarily strictly off road things. For example, most of my trips to Colorado anymore are for mountain biking. A semi-kitted Range Rover would be perfect for that, where I have to sometimes hit some moderate trails to get to mtb trail heads or getting my wife to shuttle me to the top of the mountain. Thing is, there is nothing on the aftermarket for these. No skid plates. No sliders. Nothing.

Yes, please. I am driving a 2017 TDI6. My wish list: Front and rear off road bumpers, skid plates (And battery box protection or relocation), rocker protection, a 1.5-to-2-inch lift, needed axle and suspensions improvements to manage the lift. The L405 is capable, it just needs offroad protection to make it perfect. Like I said, wish list, you don't know if you don't ask.

For a vehicle built on a small island surrounded by salt water, the amount of rust that east coast Land Rover products have is just nuts. You'd think Land Rover would be better at preventing corrosion. I've got three of them now, a 2019 L405, a 2012 L322 Supercharged and a 2013 RRS Supercharged, all Cali cars....not one spot of rust. Never thought of modding the L405...but it would be interesting to see what you come up with.

Dual purpose- I am thinking being able to wheel it or tow something to the fun with it. It would be interesting to see a bumper/pushbar on the front. Lower protection for the back rear side. Where is the spare on this? Wheel options would be interesting to see.

I vote yes if it has a rear locker. Larger tires call for a swing away tire carrier mounted in the trailer hitch, including a bike rack and other goodies. Given the panoramic roof, I’d go with load bars instead of the roof rack. Hmm…do J Austin lift kits fit a full-size RR?

Yes, yes and yes....could be the next Land Rover for trail trucks....lot's of late model LR4's don't have 2 speed transfer case or locking rear diff plus this has lots of great cargo room vs. Defender 110...plus who does not like the clam shell tailgate.....also, you guys need a generator and TV for the Land Rover weekends so you can watch some college football...you looked bored in the tent at MAR 😀

@georgecarousos6735
@georgecarousos6735 6 месяцев назад
I'm confused about LR4's not having two speed transfer cases.....I thought all LR3's and LR4's have the two speed transfer case or am I missing something? The biggest issue with the L405, L322 or L320 is their lack of useable interior space given the exterior size of the vehicle. I've found that the LR3's, LR4's and new Defender 110-130 are much easier to kit out the interior because of the boxy shape.
@cltrovers
@cltrovers 6 месяцев назад
2005-2013 all LR3 and LR4's had two speed transfer cases....the last 3 years of the LR4 the two speed transfer case was an option. Since most LR4 owners did not use their vehicle off road many dealers did not spec them for their inventory to sell in an effort to bring the price down.@@georgecarousos6735

Interesting why the ace lines and fuel tanks were so rusty on a 2016? It will drive mint 😊 Do it guys
@Lucky8
@Lucky8 8 месяцев назад
Yeah, those lines are a little bit sketchy. I think it just has to do with moisture, getting trapped above the felt liner. That's why we rip them off on our defenders when we do rock sliders.

@michaelsharman7176

@@Lucky8Wheels and tires should be high on the list I feel. I am considering some 275 x 50x 20” Cooper’s AT3 Sport 2 All Terrain These are 31.91 inches tall and will fit on a RR 1065 wheel. However I’m open to suggestions. You can’t easily fit smaller than 20” on these cars so there’s not a lot of choice. Best get one with rear locker too
