We can't go full electric yet so hybrids are the best bet , their perfection is what will give life to fully electric .

We can go fully electric, it’s just the car companies don’t want us to and got caught napping. Now the likes of Tesla and Rivian and shifting markets and they are getting left behind because they were trying to milk us. Now they’re crapping themselves. Look at what has happened to RR sales and now Tesla is worth more than BMW or Mercedes.

While the low mpg without charging is true, it's not helpful how many road journalists perceive how driving plug-ins are. If you're going long-ish distances, like on country B-road, it is less efficient, almost dumb to exhaust the battery first. Leaving it in hybrid mode when charged will preserve more of the charge at much longer distances while still lightening the load on that engine, thus better economy. You can get +60 mpg in that heavy stupid thing for a long drive on one charge. By just draining the battery first would purposely be running the small engine too hard for no reason later. EV mode's for slow speeds/small distances.

OK so for proper refinement, and only for a maximum of 30 miles, you have to lock out the 4cyl engine.
@georgelurye6274
@georgelurye6274 5 лет назад
No one ever said that, but silent driving is the ULTIMATE refinement. No engine noise AT ALL! You can drive it in the combined hybrid mode and you still barely hear any engine noise. It's a Range after all.

DEFINITELY NOT RR PHEV!!! Read my nightmare with RR before buying one. New 2020 RR PHEV I bought 3 months ago for from Official dealer in GA had orange engine light turned on when I came back home, still turned on after 3 times back to dealer service with changing different parts. Now has been at service 4th time for last month and they said that all this model cars in the world will be recalled for new hybride software that will be ready at the end of September 2020. 3 months after buying a new very expensive car, still stuck to service. Dealer said that JLR refused replacement because any car they replace will need the same software update all p400e models in the world will be recalled. JLR used my car as a lab to find a common defect but still not replaced or refunded.

Major and inexplicable disappointment with this model is that there is no charge mode while driving. So it’s plug it in or nothing. Competition, ie Volvo XC90 will change on the go, so you will always have battery available
@georgelurye6274
@georgelurye6274 5 лет назад
This model uses regenerative braking to add to the battery. The XC90 has to charge on the go because its AWD system depends on it. Without the battery, it has no AWD, so it charges it from the engine. That's not so with the Range Rover. Charging the battery from the engine is inefficient.

Without a far better range these things are inefficient, tedious to charge and expensive. Sure they're paving the way but you'd have to be crazy to buy one. In 3 or 4 years time? yes maybe....
@georgelurye6274
@georgelurye6274 5 лет назад
...because inserting a plug into an electrical outlet is so tedious for a Range Rover. They should just have a butler do it for them. 31mpg is about double of what most people commute on daily basis and 3 times the typical errand mileage, which means that many people will almost never ever use petrol with this car and that means it's incredibly efficient.
@MaZEEZaM
@MaZEEZaM 5 лет назад
@@georgelurye6274 They could have gone with one of the regenerative Petrol/electric models. I agree though, not exactly difficult plugging it in when you get home, certainly FAR better than going to a service station to fill with fuel.

The Sdv6 Hybrid is far better. Much more torque then a silly little 4 cylinder petrol engine which has around 640nm !! My Sdv6 hybrid has 354hp and 700nm of torque it is 6.5 seconds to 62mph. Which is faster then this Phev which is 6.9 seconds to 62mph. Another plus with the Sdv6 Hybrid is that you don't have to charge it, it charges itself 😁. Think I will stick to my old 2015 Sdv6 hybrid. That petrol engine sounds like a little boy racer car !! No good for a range rover !! Let's hope they bring out a new version of the Sdv6 Hybrid 👍
@georgelurye6274
@georgelurye6274 5 лет назад
In the real world, that 60 extra nm and .4 seconds in acceleration don't translate into anything. It's not like you live in a country without speed cameras. You actually don't have to charge this car either. The battery will charge off the engine and off the brakes. Charing it at home every day means you don't have to use ANY petrol for months! Most people's commutes and errand runs are far less than 30 miles, so just plug it in every evening in the garage and enjoy your silent drive!
@rossbrown9539
@rossbrown9539 5 лет назад
The Phev cannot fully charge itself on its own. It can only charge it's self a little ! Plus if you have to charge it every night at home your electricity bill will be sky high !!! It will do about 25 miles max in electric. Then when that baby little 4 cylinder kicks in on its own it will only do a max of 25mpg !!! It's good for city use but for longer drives its useless. I will still stick to my SDV6 Hybrid thanks 😀. Oh yea its faster too He, he 👍
@afcgeo882
@afcgeo882 5 лет назад
I’m all for having your own opinions and feelings, but I’m squarely against lies (the battery CAN fully charge from regen braking, albeit slowly) and it can do 30 miles on a charge AND electricity costs a TINY fraction of Petrol or Diesel. In fact, the full charge should cost you pennies. A 30 miles for something like 30 pence is fantastic! No, it’s not the most economical for motorway cruising, the video mentioned that. How much does your premium petrol cost and what’s the fuel economy on yours? Lets compare it to the Hybrid!

@WaywardAnalysis
@WaywardAnalysis 3 года назад
And what the heck is Sdv6 hybrid, have never heard it...at least mention the full name once before sprinkling this abbreviation in every sentence. Does it require premium gas? Would be surprised to find a pure hybrid (with smaller battery) to have the stated HP and torque. Also, one of the advangtage of 2 liter 4 cylinder engines is that you can use regular 87 octane gas, which is 65-75% the cost of premium gas.

@georgelurye6274 4 года назад
@@neb4587 Awful in comparison? How? You can prove this or is this just your "feels"? Range Rover suffers from a lack of reliability reputation. Tesla had fit and finish problems with the Model 3, and a few early models, but not on the X and most fitment issues have been resolved. I'm no Tesla fan, but I have to give credit where it's due. I love their cars, but hate their company and owner.

Trab Ali In the UK some cities are considering a ban on Diesels - to meet current legislation on pollution. I myself have bought a petrol hybrid after 15yrs of diesels. Diesels are going to go eventually, manufacturers are way ahead of you.
@ce9934
@ce9934 6 лет назад
Pure petrol and diesel power will be banned for new vehicles in 2040, so it's better companies start getting up with hybrids sooner than later, so they can develop them well for when everyone will be buying them
@trabali5168
@trabali5168 6 лет назад
Well i thought the "government" told us about 15 years ago that diesel is clean, and that you will get cheaper road tax, (dpf). All hybrid cars are rubbish at the moment, i wouldnt buy one, i have driven most, the transition from battery to petrol makes a horrible noise and ALL sound coarse like they are struggling. And they are usless on the motorway on long journeys.
@ce9934
@ce9934 6 лет назад
Trab Ali yep so true about the long journeys etc. I hope theyve started early enough to make them good enough for 2040, otherwise everyone will get a shock. Personally I quite like the silent driving, but for me it'd be one or the other: silent battery or standard fuel, and at the moment its diesel because electric cars are just nowhere near good enough, even at the price point of a Tesla
@trabali5168
@trabali5168 6 лет назад
your right, and also nothing beats the instant power/response you get from a diesel or petrol engine, and talk about silent driving, i work for one of the largest car supermarkets, its my job to check and test cars, i recently had a c class hybrid for a week, when your in battery mode (silent driving) you think "this is progress" but when you accelerate just a little the 2.1 diesel kicks in and i swear it sounds like a massey ferguson tractor!! And people just dont do the maths when buying hybrids, the cost model for model, same year. same car, same spec, one petrol one hybrid, the hybrid is 30-40% more, you will never recoup that money back in less fuel costs after 3-4 years ownership!
