Velar may slot in between the Range Rover Sport and the Evoque but can it's stunning looks make it a more appealing choice than either?

Physical switches are much better for cars. Having to take your eyes off of the road every time you want to do anything is much more dangerous.

The strategy for removing switchgear is down to many reasons, mostly for reducing cost and a design lead change. Yes I agree nothing can match switches for tactility and safety, however with most new cars moving to Level 3 autonomy, the users can take their eyes off the road to use the screens. Its also about learning to use them, as the screens are packed with more features, therefore removing the buttons reduces cost and it means interior quality can be improved with more funding spent on materials etc. I can say that in the Velar, the screens are very intuitive!
@DarcersTech
@DarcersTech 7 лет назад
Andrew Malkin You are not forced to use the touch screen while driving. Especially in this car, given there are still dials for some basic functions. Plus, voice control is still an option.

LarryUK another thing that's dangerous is always checking your speed as a young driver, cause there's alot of pressure for us to drive correctly or else face losing our license, it ends up with me glancing at my Speedo every 10 seconds which is very bad

Had the chance to spend a bit of time being driven in one. Wasn't hugely impressed; it has extra toys, but the lower-end engine is gutless and in all honestly, it's really no more luxurious or comfortable than e.g. a Kia Sportage inside. The touchscreen isn't a great idea either for all the reasons everyone's spotted - I am no newbie with technology, but it took me about 45 seconds to figure out where the volume knob was for the radio. It's just not intuitive, and lacks any kind of haptics to boot.
@CTP1111
@CTP1111 7 лет назад
So most land rovers are made so that you can use the control buttons wearing gloves, for those cold days, so do these touchscreen controls work through gloves? Also doesn't look like there's a ton of head room, which is one of the things I liked most about my Rover

I am always scratching my head at all the people claiming that land rover/range rover have poor reliability. I guess people see what they want to believe. But I have a hard time believing that all the commenters have even driven a rover let alone ever owned one. I have owned Land Rovers all my driving life, and have had every model from a Series II to a modern Range Rover. I haven't owned one of the Evoques or Velars but I can't imagine they are that different. I have also owned Fords, Jeeps, Dodge, Hondas, Nissans, and a Toyota. The Ford blew a transmission when the speedo plug came undone after a dealer service. One Jeep rusted in half after six years from new, plus it had cracked the transfer case. The Dodge was a Cummins which blew an injector rail on a major highway, sprayed diesel all over the road and engine bay which needed a hazmat fire truck to respond. I had two Hondas have a ruin water pump which caused the timing belt to slip which caused total engine failure on one and ruined the valves and rockers on the other. One of the Nissans has a CVT transmission which is crap, it actually stalls when cold in a sub tropical environment and the Toyota needed a compleat new frame as it rusted out. But they didn't replace the rusted bumper. All of the Japanese cars I had in a certain time frame had to have their airbags replaced as they randomly blew up, the Toyota was also recalled for a sticking accelerator On the other hand not one of my land rovers or range rovers have ever let me down. They have all had various issues after a hundred and some odd thousands miles but never something that caused a major issue. I have also driven 26 yo Series III after buying it sight unseen, from Florida to New England to Washington state. So maybe I am just really lucky with rovers and unlucky with other cars, but if that's case then it just shows there is something for everyone and we should be glad that's the case.
@nasser-ist
@nasser-ist 5 лет назад
I must say I share your experience as well. And like you said, most of the commenters probably never owned one, they just make excuses to not get one probably because they didn't work hard enough to acquire one. I was a BMW guy once, dealt with major problems with all 7 of them, different models and series. I am on my 4th Range Rover, Velar being the latest one and still have my most reliable work horse off-roader LR3 (Discovery 3) 2007 in my possession and going strong. I ride it rough, trash it, go off-roading and just maintain it as you would like a normal car. No problems whatsoever! And Velar is a treat so far! Loving it...

The reviewer stood mostly on the design (was very enthusiastic about it actually), which is very good, but it's not the whole point. Clearly, he feels about it and presents it like a new Apple product, but this doesn't make the review complete. The only technical information were the shared platform with F-Pace and the V6 of 375 bhp. Still, I have to admit the design of the car is great, but not the only thing to focus on.

So Range Rover have now, perhaps inevitably, reached the point where they are making a sleek, relatively low-riding car which will no doubt never actually be driven off road. I'm sorry, I know this type of car is hugely popular, but this model more than any other sums up why I will never understand it. It's a gold Rolex on wheels: designed purely to pose and show off. And no doubt it will sell in the thousands.

Always makes me chuckle when I read people suggesting Land Rover's reliability is bad, only to suggest a worse brand as something that is 'very reliable'. You are living in the dark ages if you think BMW is reliable. WHile I appreacite there will always be cases where drivers have had zero problems with their 'favourite brand' for years, the latest data (2018) placed BMW last - yes *last* - 24th of 24 car manufacturers with an average of 192 faults per 100 cars. Audi were only marginally better. www.fleetnews.co.uk/news/manufacturer-news/2018/07/11/hyundai-is-most-reliable-car-brand-according-to-jd-power-survey While surveys are always subjective and relate to data provided, the best performing BMW's were entry level diesel 1 Series, often used for as fleet vehicles, with high spec X3s and X5s being the worst performers for reliability.

Front end of that car looks really slick, back end is hideous. The interior is going along the popular meme route of removing all physical controls and moving to glossy, capacitive controls which look worse when covered in fingerprints and are harder to use when moving. If that is the future, then I am not interested.

This is what the vogue and sport should have looked like. I was not a fan when they released them and up to now, they have still yet to grow on me. Loved the previous sport look more

This is such a bad review. Not a word on the interior room, luggage room etc. Thumbs down....

The only thing I don't like about the looks are those huge fake exhaust tips. Otherthan that, it looks amazing

i don't like the tail with the pipes and stuff around them... it looks forced and awkward to me. i see them on the street and can't get over that back view...

Such a good looking car and then they put that plastic crap on the bonnet.

I have to say this car isn't aging very well. Looking at it again, it looks remarkably bland.

this car is more appealing than the Sport, Vogue and Evoque all combined

Why are factory wheels the ugliest part of most cars? Especially modern cars?
