@@jimtom4878 ive always had a code reader but one day i didnt have it with me and i was out on a vacation with the family and i contacted onstar just to make sure it wasn't nothing too serious but they told me they cannot read codes i was like then why do they tell us at dealer you can.. lol
Took my 40k mile ‘18 in for the brake recall, couldn’t really tell a difference. But my wife’s 70k mile ‘14 showed a noticeable improvement in brake responsiveness. Only took about 45 minutes with an appointment.
So glad you did this video! I have a 2018 Chevy Z71 also w 20 k miles now and got the range back when you did your video on getting yours .... So happy to know what to do now if my engine light comes on ! I’ve been very happy so far with it ! I also haven’t received anything about the recall ....
Do you remove it when you take it in for service? I’m interested in buying one for my 18 but I’ve read that you should take it off when taking it in for service.
@@giovannizapien1990 yes take it off because they can be a**h**es about it and void your warranty! If you know ahead of time that your going to the dealership at least remove it a few days to a week in advance. Plus if they have to do a diagnosis or if your taking it to the yearly inspection, it takes the computer time to refresh after removing the range, kind of like reconnecting the battery.
Ok...when you call Flo or whoever...you're actually calling an answering service that works very hard to make it appear like you're talking to who you called. Example: the answering service set us up with a test drive on a pickup. We got there and NOBODY knew we were coming or why AT A HIGH VOLUME CAR DEALER. They were completely lost and turned on us. "What the hell were you thinking?". "We just did what your answering service told us to do".
i just bought a CPO 2016 LT Z71 and the brake pedal effort recall is just reprogramming the brake control module, a software issue. Its a quick fix. Hope all is well with the flashed Range device. I want to get one of those and am glad I saw this video and know you can have the Range company do that for you.
Strange. I remember I got my Range just after you did. I noticed today with the range unplugged it was staying in v4 even when starting to pull hills but no engine light.
Next time you are at the gas pump, add one to two ounces of TC-W3 Outboard 2-Cycle Engine Oil (ashless) per every five gallons of gasoline to your gas tank, then drive it around on cruise control when possible at 44 miles per hour (you must first bring the speed to around 48 mph to get it into a higher gear then let the speed fall back to 43-45 mph) and you will be able to enjoy 35 - 40 mpg fuel economy consistently if traffic is flowing (not bumper to bumper). When at the gas pump, first add the 2-cycle oil to the gas tank, then fill the gas tank with regular gas, that way the gasoline will mix with the oil as it falls into the gas tank (do not fill with gas and then add the oil). I also purchased my AFM Range Disabler about 2 years ago, and all is well, the truck runs on all 8 cylinders, except when the engine is off :) I do my oil changes every 5000 miles, it makes me feel better. I have added strong magnets (2) to the outside of the motor oil filter also, which can be removed and placed on the new filter on every oil change, to retain inside the filter as many metal fillings as possible instead of having them flowing inside the engine.
Truck looks sharp bro. I would black out the side view mirrors. You can vinyl wrap them. I did that to my Tahoe it’s also white black out the back side pillars. And running on 22 all black.
The brake pedal recall only needs to be taken care of if you have the problem. I had the problem not every time I braked but a few times,the brake pedal just doesn’t work like it’s supposed to because there isn’t enough vacuum. Got it fixed, I’m not convinced that just returning will help but we will see.
had the brake pedal recall done on my 17 silverado. Didnt notice anything before or after and they were able to do it as they were servicing the truck at the dealership so it was pretty quick to do it
Brent Crowley my dealer recommended not to do it due to how many trucks were coming back with the booster pump failing. Guess their trying to get that recalled aswell.
Bro I have the same problem, just turn on the truck rev it then turn it off 3 times back to back it should take it away. I usually get the engine light under harsh acceleration so it could be nothing serious.👍👍
I'm sure that your range had the old firm Ware on your range disabler. They told me that 8.6 was the latest version when I purchased my range disabler. I'm sure that your issue was the disabler and you didn't have the latest firmware. Hopefully you won't have anymore issues with it. Please keep us updated if you do or don't. Thanks for sharing!
Killer truck man. That's the reason I didn't go with a z71. I really liked the look, but didn't want lifter failure after 70k miles like I keep reading. I saw the bypass options, but I really didn't feel like it was a good idea to have something "trick" the computer. I ended up going with a Tundra. I still enjoy your channel though. For your truck, I think a matte black vinyl roof wrap would set it off.

my father has a 2016 blackout edition with the same chevy 6 speed trans and he had the lost communication to trans control module as well.. you have to take it to the dealership and they have to pull the trans and replace the module.. trust me thats honestly exactly how it went
The 6l80e transmission in the (14-18) Silverado and Sierra actually does have a problem with the torque converter and the trans will eventually go out.
About that brake recall, the brake peddle will get hard at rolling speeds in a parking lot and its hard to stop. My 2014 finally done it. It isn't a recall, it is an extended warranty to 150k miles. Well they connect to the obd port and do a simple adjustment. That will get you by until the 150k warranty runs out, then one day it will happen again. Then you'll need the brake assist vacuum pump replaced. They know thats the real issue. After a very heated argument with the dealership, they told me its the pump, they are faulty and will eventually fail, I had to replace it, but the truck was at 160k miles so I was looking at 12 to 1300 dollars. So they are putting a bandaid on a future problem. I got the pump off amazon for 90 bucks, it was 300 at the dealer. Took me a full day to replace, didn;t have a good tool set and the 4 bolts are a pain to get to. Be clear you want the pump replaced not just a program temporary fix before you hit 150k. I confirmed this with GM and filed a complaint with NATSB or what ever its called. Go back to the dealership and say it's doing it again and you want a new vacuum assist pump. They tried to tell me I would kill someone with the faulty pump, I said no Chevrolet will kill someone, its a safety issue and there should be no mileage limits. Don't panic if you can't stop, use the parking brake.
I've been using one of these in my 2011 Tahoe for about 6 months. Once in a while when I try to speed up slightly, it will downshift really hard. I haven't had a check engine light, and I figured it was because I have 182k miles. I wonder if I should look into an update? Other than the occasional downshift issue, it's made my truck run a lot better and also got rid of my "catalyst below threshold" codes.

I have a range in my 16 z06 and when I removed it a week ago for the yearly inspection, I got a check engine light the day after and stayed on the code was p0430 which is the cats. Not the first time this happens. A few months back I removed it and had a check engine light. If I plugged in the Range device it would go away. Not too sure why. So my car is at the dealership right now and they told me I need a new catalytic converter at 12k miles which is odd... (under warranty) I hope the range device isn't messing around with the sensors of the car because if so... I want my money back! However about a year ago when I took my car to the dealership for special service on the radiator, I unplugged it and she stayed there at the dealer for a few weeks with no check engine light. So yeah either the range is causing this or the actual cat was defected but the range was hiding away the check engine light?? I don't know 😑 so I sent out the range and just got it back right now, apparently it was corrupted? Which I have no idea how that happens..??
I've been using the range for 3 weeks now and haven't had any codes. My transmission actually shifts better and i notice a smooth downshift instead of a clunk.
I bought this AFM disabler and as much as I hate the V8/V4 switching, I have to say that the truck runs better without it. I was having misfires and hesitation with it plugged in. The moment I unplugged it, the Tahoe stopped tripping.
lmfscrew what warranty the dealer laughed at us when we complained about putting a quart of oil in our truck every 800 miles. They said it was normal. Just think how many live that was lost over their key switch
GM vehicles have no warranties anymore. I'm keeping my 2002 2500hd! 320k miles, original engine, tranny, and rear end, and still running strong! No afm/dod crap!
If it makes you feel any better my 2016 LT Z71, just threw a code P050D (Cold Start Rough Idle) I plan on running some high quality gas in it and seeing if the CEL goes away, if not I guess it's to the $tealership
Update: After 8 months now of dealing with my truck being stupid I finally took it in since my CEL would go on and off within days, the verdict was a bad #6 injector🤷♀️

Sorry bro you do have to buy the service it 14 bucks a month. I paid for it from day one. When I bought my 2018 Tahoe. Believe me I was glad I got it. Cause I had problems with it. And I had to get a lawyer lemon law. So I used that service with Onstar and they were able to diagnose it. And their emails where my proof. So I won my lawsuit got all my money back and they payed for all the lawyer fees, Cause I’m in California. So I got myself a new 2020 and it’s running great.
my silverado app is how i found out about the recall, a month ago maby less.... it sends me emails every month (diagnostic report) that gives me information on the tire pressures/abs/transmission ect..... 2017 Silverado
I have an 18 Silverado and I get emails if anything goes wrong with my truck , but I have gotten an Email Abt a brake pedal recall, I even have the app on my phone that starts my truck and give me all the updates, and still no recalls
I have the Range AFM delete on my 2018 GMC sierra . Keeps it in V8 mode however it has a mean (harsh downshift 3-2 or 2-1) when slowing to stop. Once removed the downshifting returns to normal.?? Range customer svc has no idea why ???
Same issue I took mine out of my 2019 Camaro 2ss because it was shifting harsh in 1st 2nd and 3rd gear. Felt like my car started riding harsh after maybe 5 months of having it in. Took it out cars driving smooth as ever again…
The breaks where the vacuum pumps on the 14 Chevy an gmc 15-16 Tahoe an suburbans this fixes all that in the new year mine just blow up in mine not fun to replace
Haven’t received a brake software recal of any type but I did change my own vacuum pump out before I got the letter stating that brake pedal could get stiff from the vacuum pump failing You guys may have got a different letter then I did who knows lol That clicking noise as you are backing up at the end of the video sounds like a dry u joint you might want to check out Keep the vids coming !!
Had the same issue with my 2018 Silverado suspension so I took it to the dealership and told them my truck sounded like an old man. They replaced spring pads and torque ubolts all covered under warranty. Sounds like you figured it out, will be looking for the video!

Kind of a misleading title. Your check engine light has absolutely nothing to do with the Range afm disabler. In the video you more or less speculate that it might be the cause, but probably not.
This is why the first thing I do when buying a GM truck is to cancel the Onstar crap immediately. Once your trail expires it's hell trying to cancel it, you'll be on the phone for 30 minutes repeating yourself that you don't want the service. It's pointless. $200 a year for voice navigation & emailed tire pressure/oil diagnostics? gtfoh with that.
don't do it you will never recover any amount saved on fuel compared to a cost of a replacement of the engine.6,000$ if you want something with better MPG get a prius not a v8
Just found out about AFM after I bought my first truck lol. It’s a 2014 Silverado Z71 LTZ 5.3 and wanting to do some mods to it. How does the range handle doing 80/90 mph on the freeway and do you guys recommend that black oil separator Etc ?
Just got a 2018 silverado z71 lt and when even before I put my afm disabler i think it's downshifting really hard when I break. Is there a recall for that?? I thought it was because it was going from V4 to V8 but it's still doing it.
@@fl3x903 Nope, its been pretty much the same. I have 24K miles on it now. I checked the transmission fluid, it's lost some of its pink color since I bought it, but its not dark by any means. I will drain and fill it at 45K like the owners manual says. But overall I dont think its a problem, just crappy GM transmissions.
@@ericzhu2953 thanks I took mine in and the dealership says nothing is wrong with it. This was at 19,000 miles. Now I'm at 29,000 and I have another appointment next week but I might just cancel it and deal with it like you said.
@@fl3x903 Yea just keep up with maintenance and keep an eye on your fluid conditions. I always have my transmission fluid temperature displayed on the dash. My old 2006 Silverado had a transmission failure and had to be replaced, but that was partially my fault for driving like a maniac. I bought another silverado because they look good, not for reliability haha.
So I wanted to paint my Chevy emblems and z71 like your truck however I’m not sure how exactly you did it. I bought plasti dip and I also have the white gloss enamel but I can’t remember how you ended up doing this and how much did you have to sand it down?
