He isn’t married but he did have a partner since 2015 and split after four years of dating, but apparently they were seen together last year (possibly rekindling the relationship?). Either way she was very supportive of Gaga and Bradley at the time and “understood they were just in character” during the Oscar’s performance.
My favorite icon behaviour moment is Julie Andrews thanking Jack Warner for not casting her in My Fair Lady when she won for Mary Poppins. She played Eliza Doolittle on Broadway and was snubbed for the role in the movie because Audrey Hepburn had more starpower at the time. And that snub cleared her schedule to do Mary Poppins, which made her a star and gave her an Oscar.
Top 3 Chaotic Moments in Oscar History - Any occasion when Whoopi Goldberg was a host. - 2003 Oscars which had Nicole Kidman making a plea to stop the War going on at the time as well as another winner who was booed off the stage for doing the same. - The face journeys of Lupita Nyong’o while trying to process the Will Smith-Chris Rock situation.
This girl is too young to remember that. Notice how most of these moments are within the last decade. She didn’t even mention John Wayne trying to assault the Native American woman who was accepting marlon Brandon’s Oscar on his behalf, she didn’t mention Halle Berrys of Hattie winning for Gone With the Wind. She didn’t mention Slumdog Millionaires historic win. There were a lot more iconic moments than a lot of the ones she listed here, she’s too young to remember. There were some pretty iconic performances too she didn’t mention that are very memorable. She was only 13 when some of these things happened. Should probably do some research before posting a ranking video expecting to get paid for this.
I’m personally a fan of Roberto Benigni jumping up onto the seats and up the stairs after winning for Life is Beautiful. It’s chaotic but also very wholesome.
I was actually at the 2017 La La Land/Moonlight ceremony and BOY HOWDY. Let me tell ya… you could cut the awkwardness in that room with a knife. It was palpable. I was seated behind a bunch of people who worked on La La Land too. It was like watching a car crash watching them celebrate and then in real time realize they hadn’t won. OOF. I’ve never felt that kind of palpable cringe in a room before. It was surreal. Also no one mentions this, but it was also SO unfair to the folks behind Moonlight, because instead of it getting it’s time to shine as best picture, the after parties and the chatter the next day in the press was all about the mixup and not the triumph of either of those films, let alone the one who actually won.
Love the videos. A really good one to do would have been Sacheen Littlefeather accepting Marlon Brando's oscar in 1973 and being booed for asking for native american rights
I thought about that one, but I learned that Sacheen Littlefeather faked her Native American ancestry, so some feel differently about her (and that moment) now. I'm not Native American, so I didn't really feel like it was my place to discuss that moment for this video edit: definitely worth noting that it is an "oh my god" that people were booing and so violent in response... Native American people deserved and have deserved better
I was going to say the same thing! Such an iconic moment. It’s a shame she turned out to be a pretendian (according to her own family). She did have mestizo Mexican heritage, which is indigenous to North America, but that’s not the same as having a Native American or First Nations tribal identity and is a very different cultural/generational experience. These issues are also absurdly common: “The Native Scholar Who Wasn’t” from the New York Times is an excellent read on the issue.
A missing moment (which I would add under Icon Behavior) is Michael Moore winning the Oscar for Bowling for Columbine in 2003 and calling out GW Bush for the Iraq War. It was a bit of an awkward delivery, but he used the platform thoughtfully and critically. The audience started actively booing and shaming him (this was months after 9/11, when critiquing government even in California was seen as “antiamerican”). I was very proud of him for speaking up and, I’d say, as time has shown, he was right all along.
My all time favourite moment in the oscars history is Olivia Colman's accepting speech in 2019, the most iconic, chaotic and sincere speech ever, 12/10
Small correction: Chris Rock said she looked like GI JANE not GI Joe. It was a movie about the first female navy seal and she shaved her head. He wasn’t saying she looked like a man, but like a badass female character (which is obviously far less of an actual insult and way less mean than people took it)
I found your channel through the Nepo baby video and just came back for this, I am genuinely surprised how few subscribers you have but I hope it won't stay that way for long :)
Just gonna add Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt the presenting costume design prize and they get into character of the Devil Wears Prada and also address Meryl Streep, who, in like two seconds, chances from Meryl to her character in the Devil Wears Prada It is currently all over Instagram, at least, and is very Iconic imo
One you should've mentioned was Jurassic Park's VFX win where all the recipients started doing their speeches at the same time, it was really sweet and it could've been in Icon Behavior
I was looking for this comment - it absolutely should They were high on acid, dressed as Gwyneth paltrow and JLO and didn't give annnnny fucks whatsoever about winning - apparently you can still hear PAul Thomas Anderson screaming 'NO' when they lost... They also had Robin Williams sing blame Canada (which was nominated). Icons.
I loved this one. When Will Rogers presented Best Director, this was way back in 1934, he opened the envelope and announced, “Come up and get it, Frank!” Frank Capra, who was nominated for Lady for a Day, ran to the podium, only to discover that it was actually Frank Lloyd, who won for Cavalcade. Oh my…
To me the most oh my god moment was when Marlon Brando won the Oscar for the Godfather and he sent Sacheen Littlefeather instead 1. Iconic for Brando for bringing awareness to the standoff at Wounded Knee and allowing Littlefeather to talk about Hollywood's portrayal of native Americans 2. Oh my god to the reaction of some of the people in the audience to act as if they were offended.
I live in Europe so The Oscars take place between 2 am and 4 am, a really awful time expecially if you have to work the next day, BUT am I going to watch it anyway? Absolutely. Last year I was the only one in my group of friends that saw the SlapTM live, you simply cannot quantify the value of some experiences
Ok for me, with the La La Land-Moonlight mixup, that’s the most insane one because there’s literally one purpose for the academy awards and the presenters and the envelope handlers backstage, and that is to announce the awards correctly and they fucked it up so bad on the TOP AWARD OF THE NIGHT! It ruined the La La Land team’s night and it ruined Moonlight’s moment… it was like. What?? So I think I would add two tiers below oh my god. Dead bottom would be the SA tier for Roman Polanski and Adrien Brody. Then above that is the YOU HAD ONE JOB tier for the best picture mixup, and then everything else 😂
Reason why people said JLaw faked the fall the next year is because 1) she thrived off of the fall. It got her a lot of positive exposure and 2) she fell three times the next year. Once getting out of her limo, once on the red carpet that you showed, and once inside the venue.
crazy moment, but in a bad way, was in 2021 when they moved best actor last because they expected the late chadwick boseman to win but anthony hopkins won instead, and he wasn’t even at the ceremony (because of the pandemic) so they just abruptly ended it
Marlon Brando refusing to accept his award for The Godfather and having a Native American accept it for him to protest the treatment of Native Americans should be in iconic
Since you loved the discourse following your Australian pronunciation, as a Missourian, my state is pronounced mi-z-er-y. It sounds very similar to how living in this state makes me feel. I loved the video though!
Idk if someone mentioned it or not already but Chris Rock actually called Jada Smith G.I. Jane, which is a movie where Demi Moore plays a woman going into the military, so she shaves her head completely. Also, my own personal favorite chaotic Oscars moment was in 2006 when Jack Nicholson was presenting the award for Best Picture, and when he announced Crash he mouthed the word "wow" afterwards because he was shocked that the Academy chose it over Brokeback Mountain. You can even hear boos in the audience
I've skipped some years the Oscars due to not liking the front runners nominees. I don't remember watching it in 2006. I'm going to search for that clip asap 😁
@@monicamerle1417 its an incredible moment because he was basically the first person to express what all the top ten worst oscar winner lists have been saying for ~18 yrs now: crash was by far the most egregious and undeserving winner that year
@@nickie083100 I just found the clip. I definitely did not watch that year. I thought "Crash" was a Harvey production but he wasn't the producer...I assumed because he was excellent at buying votes and abusing women: his 2 talents
@@nickie083100 don't get mad but I saw "Brokeback Mountain" the year it came out and didn't like it. The plot is corny and I don't buy Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal as gay lovers. They're too hot and too straight. I wasn't convinced 🙄
@@monicamerle1417 Thats fair! Everyone has their own tastes. Even disregarding it as a potential winner that year, a film like Munich was a much better contender for winner over Crash. And yeah, Harvey wasn't involved with the film at all. A lot of people agree that it's win was basically a double-hit of the academy not wanting to award a movie w a queer lead (bbm, munich) and their historical reverence for big ensemble cast films + films about racism
Aussie here. if you're really intent on sticking with the "oh naur" tier going forward, may I suggest chucking a "mate" in there as well? we don't really say bestie here, and hearing you try out the Australian A sound in mate would be fun.
I feel like the Cats moment was nasty because they attacked the cgi, which is honestly the movie's smallest problem, and was a cheap shot, while THEM, THE ACTORS agreed to be in this movie to make fart and fat jokes! Also that Shallow song is unbearable and that rendition was too cringe, I simply cannot.
2:57 I’m so happy that queer people had the courage to protest when the industry was hostile to them. For crying out, we’re a significant chunk of making entertainment what it is.
For an “oh my god” moment. There’s a moment where Marlon Brando won the Best Lead Actor Oscar for The Godfather and he didn’t show up to the awards and had Sacheen Littlefeather reject the award as an indigenous rights activist. But off stage (and off camera) John Wayne is quite literally being held back by multiple security guards trying to forcibly remove Littlefeather from the stage. It’s a situation that is far far far far far far far worse than Will Smith slapping someone for a joke that he took poorly.
I wouldn't say the joke about the visual effects of Cats is worth applauding. If you do some reading about the film's production, the visual effects team was asked to do too much for too little in too little time, and they became the scapegoat for other people involved with the film. The person who should actually be ridiculed for it is the director, the producers, the decision makers. Also Corden and Wilson's acting and whoever decided they and their roles should even be in the film. I'd say when you're stuck in a crap project, either punch up at the people who made it crap or at least don't punch down on other people who are also stuck in it and underpaid.
a really iconic moment is when the cast of the devil wears prada presents the award for best styling i think (?) (this isnt my first language sorry) and we can see why meryl streep is the best actress in the world
eminem’s performance was definitely iconic behavior since he attended not only to perform lose yourself but also to finally receive the oscar for best song, which he won for lose yourself from 8 mile in the 2003 academy awards but didn’t attend the ceremony because he fell asleep watching cartoons with his daughter.
Thanks for the video, so fun!! I've got to disagree with you on both the oscar streaker Robert Opal and Jack Palance's one armed pushups. Both definitely deserve to be in the icon category as they have stood the test of time and are still talked about to this day! Where as to be honest I doubt most will remember Nicole Kidman's seal clap or the Lady Gaga/Bradley Cooper duet, both of which I would rank as alright. I also think you should have included Robert Benigni jumping up on the seats, walking on the seats then jumping up the stage stairs to accept the oscar for best foreign language flim for Life is Beautiful! Absolutely iconic and chaotic. Here is a link for anyone who has not seen that moment before: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8cTR6fk8frs.html
I can't go let of how they were like "the old people made a mistake" which like no! YOU made a mistake. also Rob Lowe and snow white... I can't find the words, like it's actually hurting my brain to describe it cause I don't even know what that was, I wish I was kidding
Want to add another moment - during the 1946 Oscars, Joan Crawford (who was nominated for best actress for Mildred Pierce) was so nervous she wouldn’t win that she claimed she had pneumonia. She accepted the Oscar while she was still in bed!
Till this day I think Jennifer fell on purpose, it was that time when everyone thought she was sooo funny, so clumsy, ohh she's not like every girl.... So I guess she just had to be hilarious even in that situation...
Vanessa Redgrave's speech when she won an Oscar was chaotic enough. There were even shocks and gasps in the room once she mentioned 'zionist hoodlums.'
This was great and so fun! As for an addendum: it's hard to distill down into a single moment but the disaster that was the Anne Hathaway-James Franco host pairing I think deserves a mention on a list like this
I saw her mention in another comment that Sacheen Little feather actually faked their Native American ancestry!!! So she didn’t include the moment :/ tbh I had no idea…
Yeah it’s really unfortunate that Roman Polanski did all those horrible things, but he did make an amazing movie. The classic conundrum of wether or not to separate the art from the artist
Eminem's presentation is everything but random. Do you not know the song won an Oscar and he was not there so the song was never presented at the show? I think a little bit more of investigation was needed here.
