I love how inconsistently they care about biting different parts to not get cooties then trading bites in the same spot passing it back and forth.

I don’t really get it tbh. I only care if someone has active herpes or if they are actually sick. I always drink out of the same cups or just bite wherever with my friends.
@@tweenytwinkies Maybe, but a little exposure to different germs is also good. And i wouldnt want to not do it for such a little risk. Just casually sharing food feels like an important part in a friendship, atleast in my opinion.
Former Five Guys employee, you were right about the fries. Cut in store, water bath to remove all the starch, fried twice (some stores will have whole bags of potatoes next to the free peanuts) Every other veggie is also cut in store, even the fruit for the milkshakes is cut up and pureed, patties are also rolled and weighed in the morning Also, we measure out the size of the fries and then add an additional scoop on top to really fill up the bag. Five guys is veeeery routine-heavy and prides itself in cleanliness, by far the cleanest restaurant experience I've ever had, I struggle to call it fast food despite it being a franchise that also pushes a 8 minute limit on orders. They don't have drive-thrus and all ingredients arrive fresh in the night/morning before open, a lot of prep occurs through-out all hours of the day. It's high quality burger/fries, even if it is a bit more expensive.
i gotta say it was my fav work experience so far, and i worked a lot of part time jobs up until this year. very stressful but you always had something to do + creating fun combinations with your co-workers like the snickers shake and stuff like that really made all the routine so easy and almost secondary compared to the memories we made together .. like prepping for the five guys olympics :')
I worked there too sure its a little pricey but if you know fast food and how it works anyone would understand why it’s that price so many other fast food places use low quality ingredients, some staff do not care at all, theres no real skill and preparation in a place like McDonalds, so there you get what you pay for and at five guys you also do get what you pay for, like they said it’s like a restaurant price except the speed you get the food and style fits in the “fast food” category and someone like me who’s not a big fan or burgers they do have great burgers in my opinion, and usually some of the best employees and they will do anything to make the customer happy, they always offer free stuff if there’s an inconvenience great place to work would never work at a fast food place again unless it was that
@@LucyLoveheart88964snickers shake that sounds amazing I’ve made Kit Kat, Cinnamon Toast Crunch and other cereal and my fav one strawberry banana and Oreo
@@Moneymonkeyman21 i agree with that so much! i would never work at another fast food restaurant honestly, this one really felt more like the good side of the industry lmao. i wouldn't go out to buy five guys as i feel like it's a little pricey, but then again i had it almost every day for a year anyway while working there :') i did crave FG after watching this vid though, ngl. been a while
@@Moneymonkeyman21 strawberry banana and oreo was the favourite of one of my co-workers lmao, she went CRAZY over it. peanut butter bacon is a huge classic though, feel like they should have tried that in the tier list instead of plain bacon
That comment you read was not wrong, i used to work there, and they get potatos straight from idaho, cut them in store and soak them in water. After that, you fry them for 2 minutes and pull them out for at least 1 minute, and then you fry them until golden brown. The real reason you get so much is because they dont want to serve cold and limp fries, so we're instructed to throw as much as possible to avoid waste.
And how the fuck did I have to scroll this far to find this comment?? 😂 I don't even like tomato soup but what rock has he lived under his whole life? Somebody needs to give him a grilled cheese with tomato soup, he's been missing out
As a former five guys employee for several years. Yes potatoes are rinsed and cleaned in-store then cut with a dice block by hand. Then they are spun around either by hand or with a machine, depending on the store to clean out the starch. After that they sit in cold water until they are ready for frying. Wich is done in peanut oil for say 2 and half minutes. ( or at least you get a slight color change and the bubbles receed. Then we would hang them up and let them cook internally for a minimum 5 minutes. Until they are ready for the second fry for a similar amount of time.
Very important to note here that the second fry should be at a higher temperature (about 180°C after a first fry of 160°C). Think of it as analogous to reverse-searing a steak, you're cooking the inside and then putting on a good crust.
@@grimecube I am a Shift Leader at my local Five Guys. In the training, it says all fryers are always set to 345°F (173.33°C), no matter if it's a pre-cook or a final cook. The reason for this is to have a more consistent and equal cooking of the fries. It's also so that the cooking process will take around the same amount of time for the pre-cook and the final cook.
@@burgerking3678 if you have never taken fries and dipped into something like a Wendy’s frosty then I recommend you try it. Sure, it’s not for everyone and you may not like it but just pineapple on pizza you should try it before passing judgment.
ive worked at a five guys before for a short while, im not sure about everywhere else but, the place where i worked at, they had their kicthen, their tables, everything clean, dated, like it was TOP Notch. i felt so comfortable eating what was servered without having to worry about it and it was a plus that it was good food and best fries, so fucking well seasoned
I also worked at five guys for a couple years and you're right, we spent 2 hours at least every night cleaning every single surface in that restaurant. super clean and fresh food too.
@@arandomvacuum9721 yeah, they were strict where i worked at to keep everything cleaned and i respected that, food might be a little expenisve but for me, i think its worth it.
Can confirm. Ive been working at five guys for 4 yrs and its definitely one of the nicer fast food places. They also give there workers free food!! Unlike McDonalds... Wish it wasnt so expensive tho but I get it.
I go to five guys every now and then, and I have never seen it messy. And I see them cleaning almost every time, despite not seeing a thing. It's always seems very professional.
My biggest request for these videos is better audio for the people behind the camera. There's so much good shit being said, and sadly a lot of it get drowned out while Charlie or Matt laughs. Please, please add a mic that catches them just a bit better
@@mathiaswilhelm1902 I was actually trying to remember "interpretation" but couldn't as English is my second language. So I just settled on "reimagination".
used to work at five guys, they dont make a huge profit off each burger. Their ingredients are top of the line when it comes to every other "fast food" chain. They even release a magazine/news paper to their stores/franchises that says the cost of each product per lb to the company. Solid company, still owned by 3/5 people who founded it. edit: plus the price of the burger includes all possible topping options, could get it all the way with every sauce and it will cost the same.
You can really tell who's never eaten at Five Guys when they try to compare a quarterpounder from mcdonalds to a burger thats got 2x as much meat on it
@@cromche id still bet that the five guys burger has more food on it $ for $ and it tastes better Mfuckers will really go buy 3 $5 cheesy Gordita crunches and call this expensive
@@Moneymonkeyman21 sorry for just seeing this. For context I was a shift manager and worked there about a little over a year and my last recorded time after checking my snap memories was like 1:13
Bro hits us with "I like soggy bacon" and follows it up with "I have never heard of grilled cheese and tomato soup". I literally had that for lunch yesterday. Is Charlie an alien??
So chef here, the reason the fries are double fried is the first is a blanching to get the fries cooked at a low temperature with out crisping. The second frying it the actually crisp the already blanched fries.
@@tractorcat6414 I agree I have made so much food using ingredients, they said they didn't like, for friends and my family. Told them it was something else and they smashed the whole meal. I've hears the meat isn't seasoned and it's very low fat so doesn't taste great anyway. Not sure why people would pay a high price for a worse burger. Imo 5 guys is literally for people with too much money. If you can afford to eat there you have no idea what struggling financially is.
@@thatoneguychad420 You already throw your entire point out of the window the moment you say “I’ve heard the meat isn’t seasoned.” So you haven’t even had it but you just got told that that’s what it’s like? You’re struggling to actually make any point whatsoever. They do 100% season the meat because I’ve actually had Five Guys instead of just guessing what it tastes like. And I have 100k in student loan debt, and can still afford it pretty easily.
@West_Out12209 there's a thing called Google with which you can find out information from companies about their products. Well you should he paying your debts instead of eating pretentious burgers 🤣🤣 and yes you are correct saying I haven't eaten there because why the fuck would I? BTW bring in debt and having spare income per month are two very different things. You must understand this. I could have 0 debts but still only have £2 left over at the end of each month after bills and expenses. Or I could be £100,000 in debt, pay off X per month but still have £200 per month left to spend on over priced food.
Working at five guys for the better half of a year, the prices are definitely outrageous but the burger is also expensive cause all the toppings are free. At McDonald’s you’d have to pay an extra .50-2 dollars for additional toppings but not at five guys. It’s practically a waste of money to NOT get toppings. There’s also insane labor cost since we roll and stamp each individual patty in the morning instead of getting them in a big frozen box from a truck.
As one of many people who don't like all sorts of extra toppings, that's such a BS excuse. "Free toppings" is just an excuse to overcharge people who don't get then which ultimately gets them more money
@@KyubiCloaks you could look at it this way, but the quality of the toppings is also superior to most fast food places. I’d say you’re in the minority of not wanting “all those extra toppings”, at least in Five Guy’s demographic. But as Charlie says the extra 5 dollars for a better quality burger is definitely worth it IF you have Five Guys money.
@@dorya.2189Well, you don't gotta. As Matt said, I understand if you don't want to pay that much for a burger, but the extra money you pay is shown in the quality of the burger
@@dorya.2189 ok but if you love simplicity why are you going to five guys? you can get an equally tasty burger for less if you simply cook it at home. if you love simplicity and are unwilling to cook for the special occasion you find yourself craving a high quality burger I would hazard to call you childish, for both being picky and being unwilling to compromise.
Here in the Netherlands, going out to eat 5 guys will cost you an arm and a leg, probably a kidney too. But it is just superior quality fastfood. We don't eat it often, but when we so, it fills the soul.
Their milkshakes are pretty insane. Especially with the prices. But I don't like to go there, since I think their fries are too salty and when I asked for less salt they oversalt my fries. So fuck them. This is the Netherlands, their fries is just on par with Bram.
I'm Dutch too and the first time I got Five Guys I went while high. It was the best burger I ever had (grew up in a small town with just McDonalds)... I ended up eating so much that I threw up then still sat down to finish my fries after 😂
Former 5 Guys fry guy: You see the potato's they use around the store and the type is written on a sign on the wall. They pick a potato grown usually up north in cold environments so they are more dense. They cut them in the store with an industrial french-fry cutter. They wash the fries until all the starch is washed out. The fries sit in water until we dump them into the tray ready to be fried. They use peanut oil to fry them. They kind of blanch the fries with an initial fry and then they let them sit, longer the better. Then they do like a 3 minute fry to finish it off. Fries should have crunch outside and smooth mushy potato center.
I looked up 2 things I would want and it was over $20 😭😭 But I believe it’s worth it, so I’d likely get five guys for lunch on Fridays when I start working (even though 100% it’ll be $30 by that time
I actually really enjoy watching the proper videos after/in addition to the uncut members ones because I enjoy knowing exactly which pieces get cut lol
The fact it took them only 33 minutes to try the entire Five Guys menu is dedication, I love the fact that they brought everything from an expensive restaurant for a video. I hope they didn’t get diabetes after
Former five guys supervisor here, not like... super loyal? I haven't worked there for like seven years lol. But the food is genuinely amazing. To answer fry questions: Fries are fried twice. First time is a blanch, then they cool, and when you fry them the second time they get super crispy on the outside while being fluffy and like "mashed potatoes" on the inside. They also cut potatoes in house and everybody hates doing it. I once caught my thumb in the potato cutter and that was horrible. I could play tic tac toe on my thumb for months. The hot dogs are fine. They slice them in half because they cook more evenly. They don't hold a candle to the burgers, but sometimes a kid wants a hot dog, or like... someone in the group doesn't like them. The grilled cheese slaps. Yall got screwed by Uber eats. Here's a trick - ask for a patty on it. freaking amazing. The shakes are good. I only made them for like, a week, when opening a new store, and quit before my store got them. You can get bacon in them, and it adds absolutely nothing but people do it all the time because "lol bacon milkshake" and they waste one of their included toppings. Bacon is supposed to always be crispy. I prefer soggy bacon. That's all I can really say on that haha Oh, and the extra fries in the bag aren't really extra. They just look like extra because they put a useless cup in there to make it look like there's extra fries. But they're fucking great fries, so it's worth it. In my opinion, the surprise hit is the lettuce wrap. I always assumed I hated Lettuce on a burger, because I never fucking grew up. The Lettuce wrap taught me I was wrong - hamburger grease does something to lettuce I can't explain.
most places that even sell them charge you over $5 for 1. When i worked at a restaurant we didnt sell them, but we had a regular that would always come in and order chocolate milk and a grilled cheese (we didnt even sell chocolate milk either). The owner would charge the dude $4 for each and leave a tip, spending $10 everyday for something that would cost less then a dollar to make at home.
I think they're meant really just for picky children. One of my little brothers staunchly refused to eat a burger until very recently because they didn't like them. I also thought he was insane. This is also the reason burger restaurants often offer chicken strips. I have to assume it's for the situation of a whole family eating but they've got that one spoiled brat who will only eat things that are orange, because if you went to a Five Guys and ordered a grilled cheese and fries by yourself and you didn't have autism spectrum disorder or something similar, people would think you're a lunatic.
[True story] A coworker never heard of the burger restaurant “Five Guys” And his daughter told him “I had five guys last night and I’m not feeling well now.”
@UTTP-Clockworkerno one asked . You have no family or life and are actual dirt . Also guys pls don’t go to their page and click on their videos . That’s how they win and make money. Don’t report them either . Just let them look silly and get no views on their garbage channel lol.
Fun Fact: They call it a "little burger" to exploit people's insecurities so they opt for the more expensive regular burger. Despite the only difference being a single vs double patty. Seems to be working!
i think the grilled cheese is supposed to be a kids item since its literally just two buns inside out with kraft cheese in it. they dont need to order any extra shit they already have it and boom! 11 dollars
I used to work at Fiveguys. They do cut the fries in store. they unpack meat from a box and mold them in store. it is a 3 stage fry, fry for 1 minute 30 seconds sit for 1 minute 30 fry again for another minute and a half or til quality.
It's incredible how little their taste pallete has evolved in over 30 years of life. The only thing remotely accurate in this video is the cajun fries being pretty damn good.
Charlie having never heard of the grilled cheese and tomato soup combo actually worries me. How did this guy grow up having never eaten nor heard of that?
For what its worth Charlie, the first fry on the potatoes is called blanching. It prevents the potatoes from oxidizing while in the fridge. You don't need to do it if you arent storing the potatoes in-between cutting and cooking.
Former 5 Guys manager here, it is true that the fries are dipped twice but they aren't fully fried until the 2nd time, the first time is done pre-cook. This is done for texturing reasons and they are cut and prepped every morning in the back before opening, as is basically every other ingredient, even the meat. The other commenter however was lying about why extra fries are dumped you do definitely get more fries than other places. A little fry will feed 1-2 people, a regular 2-3, and a large 3-4 on average. And you were right about the veggie burger, the only reason it exists is pretty much to say that the store has one. 5 Guys will go out of its way to make something if the ingredients are in the store (like the bacon milkshake) even if it isn't that good (like the grilled cheese which uses mayo instead of butter.) The reason why they call the double a regular and a single a little, officially, is so that way you get more than you expected to show that five guys wants you to have a good and filling experience. In reality it's to trick you into buying the more expensive option.
The fries are indeed doubled fried. It's been many years since I worked there, but the process was as follows: Pull potatoes out of bag, put the bag near the gaint sink. Take out potato, run it through fri cutting gadget, into sink full of water. Rinse fries in water, take out and put in bucket. Repeat until bag is finish or enough fries for a few hours. Leave bucket in back filled with water, so fries don't change too much to color brown. When ready, drain water, take bucket to the front of store and pre fry for a few seconds, somewhere around 30 seconds to 1 min. Then you take the fries and drain them and put them on a rack next to the fryer and wait to be fried again when somebody orders. If you think multiple people will order, you drop them before any order is made. It'll roughly finish around the same time as the burger or whatever they order. I remember having 4-6 baskets ready at a time. You had to mentally gauge and know when to get more fries to pre fry and keep everything ready for new orders. I pulled all this out of my memory from 18 or so years ago... But I think that is pretty much how they did it back then. Oh, also the water had to be cold to keep fries fresh throughout the day.
