This made me realize that Home Alone is just a G-rated Home Invasion/Splatter film and now I have to re-assess my entire childhood.

I get what you mean by separating alien and sci-fi. I think alien can fit into sci-fi, but sci-fi doesn't always include an alien. Sci-fi horror can be purely atmospheric in space without ever seeing an actual alien.

One of my favorites is "shit going down in a fancy house". My recs: Would You Rather, The Invitation, Ready or Not. :)

i absolutely hate home invasion horror, i cannot watch them because even though the movies are not scary, thinking about someone breaking into your house is terrifying to me and one of my worst fears

I would say Annihilation is actually a cosmic horror film. Cosmic horror is such an amazing genre.

It's so funny that home invasion movies aren't effective for you. It's one of the only subgenres that scares me...because it's one of the few that can actually happen...and does actually happen 😳😳

Have you seen much South Korean horror? They’re really great at doing fresh takes to overdone genres and are just generally pretty amazing movies.

I would add satanic/cult movies like Hereditary, The Witch, Lords of Salem, etc.

I think another sub genre which would be good to add would be maybe witches...? movies like: Gretel and Hansel, The vvitch, The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Apostle, Suspiria, etc. And then I'm not sure if this could be considered its own genre, but maybe holiday genres? Movies like: Better Watch Out, Krampus, My Bloody Valentine, Cupid, Crawlers, Leprechaun, April Fool's Day, Black Christmas, Holidays, P2, Dead End, Jack Frost, etc. idk, movies that take place and revolve around a specific holiday.

Another “subgenre” I love is family: films like the shining and hereditary

Glad to see "The Platform" getting some love. It was so good. It was one of those movies I couldn't stop thinking about after it was over.

Massively underdone: Lovecraft Horror. Annihilation, Absentia, and The Endless are three examples.

This was really fun. That's why horror has always been my favorite blanket genre, there's so many different branches, something for everyone.

I absolutely LOVE Historical Horror. I think setting the story in a time where there are different values, cultures and traditions to the modern time makes for unique and timely scares. The VVitch for example really uses the witch hunt craze of the 1600s to its advantage. One idea i would really love to see executed is Mesopotamian or Cavemen Horror

I also consider ‘The Thing’ a Sci-Fi horror along w/ body horror. Love that film. I’d even go with another sub-genre called ‘Infection Horror’. That would be most zombie films and my personal favorites, 30 Days of Night & The Crazies.

Imo the descent is one of my favorite horror movies. I also think it’s one of the most underrated films made.

I've a feeling that Dystopian horror is going to become a popular subgenre after everything that's happened in 2020.

Haunted House Genre: "I'm the Supreme Witch; how are you?" But for real though, I'm SO happy you put that in Supreme. It could so easily go into over-played because it has certainly seen its fair share of flubs and cliches, but it's on of my favorite genres too. Great recs! I would have included Cosmic/Eldritch horror, mainly because my favorite horror movie of all time, In The Mouth of Madness, falls under it. And I like that you separated alien and scifi. I think it makes sense the way you explain it.

Alien pretty much defines genre honestly, it is horror, sci-fi, Slasher, invador, haunted house. Like it's the best just the best Horror Movie.

Really great compilation! I would add some other subgenres like Cult Horror (Midsommar, Hereditary, The Wicker Man), Forensic/Murder Mystery Horror (Fritz Lang's M, The Silence of the Lambs, Green Room) and Folk Horror (Haxan, The Lighthouse, The Witch, Valerie and Her Week of Wonders)

I don't know if you know this but Quarantine is actually an american remake from a spanish zombie virus movie called "Rec". Maybe you know that fact but I told you because I think that I didn't hear you talking about it when you talked about Quarantine.
