My advice: If you've never heard of this band, give them a fighting chance. You might be surprised.

7️⃣ spins to each album. Super super hard/IMO all 5️⃣ damn good. 4.0 or better each album. I’ll keep listening/ have my rating by 10 AM. Actually, totally, totally, enjoyed this homework assignment. To me , there is no wrong order. Could see any combination and not be one bit surprised. See you in am Jamie *👍💯

I readily admit that SOT was the solution for this type of thinking in my life. Always dug classic rock and 70s hard rock, but readily dismissed anything modern just because it was modern. I never had anyone whose recommendation I could trust, but Pete's enthusiasm and knowledge helped me discover the value of giving new music a chance. From a quick listen to Blood Ceremony, they sound like a band that really appeals to my taste and will become a new favorite. Thanks gentlemen.

I love watching the Ranking The Albums episodes as it gives me a starting point in finding new bands. This channel is alone in its promotion of new and obscure bands, reviewed by knowledgeable and engaging host and panelists. The best channel on RU-vid, keep fighting the good fight, even if it seems like you are preaching to the choir!

"Ipsissimus" was also the highest grade in the 19th century English Rosicrucian fraternity Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, and one of its successor organizations, Aleister Crowley's A.'A.'. I interpret this song as being about Crowley (who had gained notoriety not only within occult circles, but also with the general public). Same with "Oliver Haddo", which was originally the antagonist in W. Somerset Maugham's novel "The Magician", which was a satirical version of Crowley, whom Maugham knew through his membership in the Golden Dawn lodge. Crowley eventually published a critique of the novel in Vanity Fair under the pen name "Oliver Haddo". As for my ranking: 1. Lord of Misrule 2. Living With The Ancients 3. The Eldritch Dark 4. The Old Ways Remain 5. Blood Ceremony There's not much separating these albums for me, and this ranking could always change. I suspect the new one could easily move up the more I listen to it; it's a new purchase and I've only had the chance to listen to it a couple of times. They also did a banging cover of Iron Claw's "Loving You" some years back that was released as a single and is definitely worth checking out.

It's sad that lots of viewers are stuck in their ways and only interested in the legacy bands. I got to admit I was one of those who used to steer clear of new bands for the longest time, but since I discovered Sea of Tranquility two years ago I have been checking out the new bands or bands that have come along in the last twenty years that have been championed by the channel. I've discovered a lot more Prog and have really dived into a lot of the Stoner bands too, which I only listened to fleetingly before. Appreciate this channel for getting me out of my musical comfort zone and proving me wrong about rock in the 21st century not having a lot going for it because it does.

My absolute favorite band of the past 15 years. I can't stop hassling people about listening to Blood Ceremony. Not a bad album in their discography. Great ability to place the right songs in the right order, elevating what is already wonderful material. Without further ado, my rankings..... 1. The Eldritch Dark-(perfectly balanced, over before you know it and you wanna start it right back up) 2. Blood Ceremony-(gets the nod over #3 because it contains my fav BC song "The Rare Lord") 3. Living With the Ancients-(amazing album, could easily be #1 on this list) 4. The Old Ways Remain-(well worth the wait, contains "Hecate" the first BC song I genuinely dislike) 5. Lord of Misrule-(Initially a slight disappointment, grew on me slowy and heavily. Love it!) I wholeheartedly agree with the statement that these albums could all be ranked 1a, 1b, 1c, etc...

We'll get there eventually. For me rankings of bands I don't know is like hearing people talk about their dreams, there's no hook for me, it's just stuff. But when you discuss bands in other areas of the channel, where there's a bit of context, that's what gets me. I'd never heard of BC until they came up in one of your discussions (Squares I think), and that piqued my interest and now I'm here. As for reviews, I only pay attention to reviews of albums I own, I know that's weird, but that's me. So I'd say look at it the other way, instead of "just" 2K views see you entertained and informed 2K people with a couple hours work. You cover a lot of music across a huge spectrum, way wider than my spectrum and I'm kinda crazy. So you're pretty much outside the wheelhouse of most of your audience most of the time. And that's OK. It makes your channel fun.

Very good episode. I always have to watch a day or so after an episode premieres due to the fact that RU-vid does not generate closed-caption when a show premieres live. I often go to the playlist to watch old stuff, just to have the CC due to a hearing loss that I was born with and made worse by many years of loud music. As for Blood Ceremony, I have streamed before, but after watching this episode, I will definitely be buying CDs. I have to say that Jamie is really good as a co-panelist for this. Great insight by both of you.

Pete drops videos daily. I’m subscribed to around 200 channels I think. I watch RU-vid about an hour or two a week. This channel is the one I probably watch the most. But I watch videos that I’m interested in, and usually because I’m searching for a band I want to hear some opinions about. I’ve got some 700 plus subscribers and when I dropped a video about Queen, I got 60 views. An obscure Canadian band from the seventies? 30 views. A thrash metal video? 700 views after four years. I rarely get views over 1,000. But I don’t care because I know there are thousands and thousands of people doing these kinds of videos. Pete has one of the highest numbers of subscribers and highest views of anybody I subscribe to. Don’t complain!
@seaoftranquilityprog
@seaoftranquilityprog Год назад
Not really complaining, more like a frustrated observation. You mention you have subscribed to like 200 channels, yet you only watch an hour or 2 of YT a week...so, basically, the majority of the channels you have subscribed to, you never watch? That might be the 'norm' for most people one has to wonder.

I think both new release day and ranking the albums are vital components here- regardless of how many viewers there are, and important for smaller/newer bands and those of us not just stuck in 1971-76 etc. I will quote one band from each category. Ne Obliviscaris, Elder. Ne, I was kind of aware of but hadn't checked out as extreme/death metal not really my thing and something I have to be in the mood for. Based on the recent Exul review, I got a ticket for them at Slay, Glasgow. Loved them! Bought some merch, but just as importantly, opened me up to two other bands Persefone from Andorra and the young Italian proggy/jazz fusion instrumental trio Asymmetric Universe- both fantastic. Elder are also playing this same venue later in the year, and I will be there due to discovering them on this channel. The good you do measures far beyond individual show views!

I've tried, but few people are ever guilted into listening to new music. I truly don't relate to people who stop, because I can't ever imagine not discovering new bands. The RIYL Tull/Purple/Sabbath tactic on shows featuring that content might be your best bet to promote these videos. I was a bit worried because Alia finished her PH.D. and got a full time job, and it could have been the end of the band. Thankfully she made the time and I like the newest one best so far! 1. I started watching the channel right in the worst of Coronatime, and during those months I think I watched most of the ranking videos of the "big" bands. Its' cool that you did them, and I enjoyed not only hearing your opinion, but learning a little about some of the areas of bands and artists' discographies that I hadn't really delved into (usually the later material). But I'm here to discover stuff that's new to me. it could be old bands, it could be new bands. But stuff that's new to *me*. Sure, there may be fewer people watching the videos about lesser known bands, but I know I'm not the only one. I think statistics on youtube can be a little maddening sometimes. Probably a lot of people come to the channel "by accident" just because of a Black Sabbath video or something. Those guys, maybe most of them don't subscribe, so they seldom end up coming back. I think many of the people who subscribe are also here for stuff that's new to them. I could be wrong of course, but it seems reasonable.

Liked what I heard and probably going to the top choice for both of you. Only sorry that that Jamie's signs didn't make the thumbnail view for the video. Not to mention UK Connection Like Jamie said, I don't get to talk music very often, SoT, in all of its various incarnations fills that gap. I will be listening to this band on my bike ride tonight. I've just subscribed even if been watching Pete and assorted crew guests for a while. In regards to people don't giving a fuss about bands they don't know - the realisation mankind is sheepish and not a lot of free thinkers, they abide to Conformity and to what TV and Radio dictates. My journey started in the 90s with Metal (extreme up to classic) and tape trading in the Global Underground (full of rare gems of ingenuity). It quickly evolved to 70s and 80s prog and hardrock, other styles: postpunk, gothrock, psychrock, psychobilly, darkfolk, industrial, noise-experimental, synthpop, ebm, etc. As you could say about punani... too many bands too little time. In regards to Blood Ceremony, would be great to have a show about this Coven (and others) inspired scene: B.Ceremony, The Devil's Blood, Jex Thoth, Faetooth and other occult rockers I now forget to recollect. Cheers from LVXitania via Albion

One possible issue might be that people have stopped searching. In general. I bet highest percentage of people only watch whatever pops up in the home page tab. Only really interested and dedicated people actually go to the channel and search for content. Which is a shame, really. Anyway, as for Blood Ceremony, astonishing band. In all honesty, I haven't yet listened to all their albums, so I won't be doing any ranking. Just want to say that these guys are phenomenal, one of the finest younger bands on the scene. Great band, dig the latest , i wish they do proper U.S. tour maybe as Ghost opener wishing. Saw them years back at Doomed & Stoned fest in Chicago , they were tight.

Their first album was very musically dense and took a long time for me to get into. It had an old sounding production like it really could have been from the 70s. At the time it seemed to go with other bands doing a similar thing like Witchcraft and Graveyard. Although it was recommended to me because I liked Jex Thoth who's debut came out earlier the same year '08 if my memory is correct. I was surprised when I heard the follow up album and suddenly they were all modern and heavy sounding! My favourite album though would have to be Lord of Misrule because I like the vocals on that one, she sounds different to the earlier records. Haven't heard The Old Ways Remain yet, but after seven years it will be interesting particularly if it's different. Rosalie Cunningham ex of Purson has gone all mellow and 60s now so maybe they have done the same. I seem to remember Lord of Misrule had some really different early 60s sounding song it which always catches me off guard when I hear it.

Shades of Wile E. Coyote props! Haven't heard band yet, but danceable doom very intriguing so will investigate band and possibility of acquiring a reptile gong.

I'm very familiar with Blood Ceremony. They're from my home town and my old band used to play with them quite a bit in the early days of the band. I enjoy their records a great deal, but I enjoy them much more live. They just sound so much heavier and more impactful on stage these days. I do like the last couple of albums but I think a part of me was still hoping they would go *heavier*. Oh well, it's totally cool either way. nice to see Living with the Agents as both your first picks. Not sure why it is but I always felt that album was a little bit left behind in their discography, and I think it's also my favourite. Luckily they still play "Oliver Haddo" live every time!

This band doesn’t get enough press and interviews. How about having them on your show for an interview with the whole band?

Well you can't blame people for not wanting to check out music that they don't like. When you are talking about your southern rock band. I am not going to watch it because I don't like that style of music and not interested in spending my time watching something like that . But I do agree a lot of people are missing out on checking out "new" bands that they probably would like within the genre they usually enjoy. But most people like to "keep it simple stupid" and that's never going to change so be happy about the few of us that want to check out new stuff . *Rant over* 😊

I’m obviously not a content creator, and I won’t pretend to be, but what about doing a little more to promote upcoming rankings and whatnot. I know you always mention them at the end of videos, but I usually catch your stuff during the week on lunch breaks and whatnot when I don’t have the time to watch the whole thing. Maybe make a short video letting everyone know what’s coming up or promote the stuff a little more in the beginning of videos. I’m subscribed, but this episode just kind of came up out of nowhere. I think some would love to know in advance so they could kind of brush up on these bands beforehand. Idk just spitballing.

Well, like almost all the shows here on SOT, the ranking the albums has had its own day and time slot for about a year now (Sunday's at 10AM EST), and I generally announce the band for the next week's show during each airing, and then pretty much every day on various other shows. I'm just not sure that an extra episode each week announcing all the upcoming programming is going to get any more eyes on it than the shows that people regularly watch. My guess is, if people aren't watching the ranking the albums shows, or don't know what's coming up each episode, they likely aren't watching all the morning shows or the panel shows either. It's hard to gauge to be honest.

I remember this band from early on... they lost favor with the online Hellride music store/forums when they were supposed to have signed with Shadow Kingdom Records but instead got picked up by Rise Above! ha. Well, here goes my unpopular opinion ...Screw all of that progressive bullshit (that only means LESS heavy) the first two records are _KILLER_ ...beyond that, however, I can take em or leave em. It's not that I dislike their subsequent records, but that material doesn't have the same niche appeal for me. But _that's_ precisely why they became a slightly better known/popular band - aside from being female fronted - because there's a considerably broader/larger demographic of people who will love their later stuff but probably never listen to the self-titled, if ya follow. This whole retro rock-psychedelic-stoner rock doom LIGHT-fuzzy-garage blues rock stuff (95% of the material one finds in Bandcamp's Doom Metal section lol) plays HUGE because it isn't as heavy and weird as pure Doom Metal, which is like the 1%'ers of the heavy metal crowd. Anyway... 'nuff of my ranting. Blood Ceremony is a lotta fun. My daughter keeps up on all of their releases. Again though, for me, it's all about their first two records.

Instead of doing several re-rating show, how about a single show about those albums who have highly risen or deeply dropped in your ratings after you rated them.
