Ranking the DBD DLC Trailers 

Actually a fun fact about Freddy. This trailer made much more sense with his OG power before complete rework in patch 3.1.0, where he actually had to put Survivors to sleep manually to be able to even hit them and Survivors to be able to see him. Well it was ultra weak, but much more fun in my opinion.

Fun fact. Canonically according to Capcom and DBD lore, when Rebecca was taken, she was immediately put into a match with the Oni as her first killer

Here are my top five favorites. Admittedly, it's mostly licensed chapters lol. 1. Halloween - Every frame was handled with slick and precise intention to really invoke that blood-freezing fear of impending doom in the shape of Michael on Halloween night. Striking in simplicity. 2. Silent Hill - The darkened colors and pacing coupled with the growing siren in the distance effortlessly catches your attention. As the sound of scraping wire pierces your ears, Pyramidhead rises like some ancient deity. So many jaws dropped when he was revealed and for damn good reason. Atonement awaits. 3. Saw - I love the perfect cruel irony of it. As Tapp repairs the gen, trying to save everyone, he is unknowingly condemning Dwight. The ticking of the trap and Amanda silently watching him let's you know he's a goner. The sound of butchered flesh combined with the Billy puppet giggles at the end is nothing short of haunting. Who wants to play a game? 4. Huntress - the sound design is so crisp and clean. The rain, the thunder, the Entity's noises and her lullaby compliment the climax of her throwing a hatchet at you. It's like she knew you were right there all along and you are about to be hunted furiously. 5. RE - I love how the Project W trailer ties into the first one. Rebecca rescuing Meg after Jill and Leon thought she was dead and left. We get to see all of the RE characters react to being plunged into the Realm without knowing it but they are all determined nonetheless. Fast-paced and dramatic, like the franchise itself. I think the legion's trailer actually represents them quite well, not in terms of gameplay mechanics but it shows how they are the most human killers in the game, they are basically just 4 teens with knives, so the trailer represents how they are (at least at the time) the only killers human enough to be able to blend in with the survivors

Fun fact in the bill trailer he is actually in a recreated room where his body was in left 4 dead before swapping the model to a different map… I find that amazing attention to detail ^^

Shattered bloodline is sooooo Grudge inspired. The hair appearing behind Adam, and just Spirits design overall screams Kayako.

Whenever I see the Pinhead cinematic, I wonder what happened to the poor killer chasing Dwight after it chased him down into the basement only to run into Pinhead...

one thing I LOVE about the one for Cursed Legacy is how Yui doesn't really falter at all, she goes down from her bike, looks at Oni and is like "oookay... so, what's the deal?" and even after he shows to be a real menace she remains like she's ready to fight back regardless of how futile it may be.

My favorite trailer is actually the spotlight trailer for Forged in Fog. I like the way it shows the duality between Tarhos and Vittorio.

So I know I’m a bit late to the party but I wanted to put in my 2 cents about the Sadako trailer. Although I may be biased towards her and Yoichi, I personally think that they should’ve been ranked as highly as Meyers and Laurie. Both are similar trailers in that they both don’t feature other survivors and both bring elements of the game (Haddonfield for Meyers and lockers/ flashlights for Sadako). Personally I would’ve ranked this S, on top of the fact that if you waited on the loading screen or 7 days after her purchase you got a version of her Tape video that includes the survivors from DbD.

Btw,the Sadako trailer does have dbd things in it,there was a Medkit in the backround and a Flashlight on the table

i love the oni’s dlc trailer his reveal was great the way they show his face when in his power and then having a different type of trailer compared to the others eg: a motorbike scene and then oni’s reveal also halloween was S tier like you said as michael is such an iconic horror character as that’s what brought a load of people to dbd to make the game more popular last one id say SAW i love the way they show gideon meat plant and then revealing amanda young’s power with the reverse bear trap killing dwight in the process

You can see the moment Yui gets taken by the entity, it’s such a goated cinematic

I think I am one of the few people that actually liked the Nightmare reboot. I enjoyed how much darker and serious it took the story. The characters were all very active and interesting. I also liked how they changed it enough to make it feel like it's own thing but still had enough ties to the original for fans to enjoy.

Big agree that the sound design and score is one of DbD's biggest strengths. From the sound effects in matches and menus, to the individual terror radius and chase themes for the Killers, to even smaller things, like how the RE Survivors have their own menu music-Michel F. April goes so hard for this game. It wouldn't be nearly as scary or exciting without all of the solid work that goes into audio. (And my favorite smell is old books)

As a Freddy main hearing you start to find him fun makes me happy! People don't utilize him right most times to make him fun.Tired of hearing him being described as boring.

I think the original concept for the Legion was the one shown in the trailer (I mean the chapter is called: Darkness Among Us) and I guess maybe it didnt work that good in the game because friends could just call out where they were and completely counter his stealth mode.

i'm a huge hellraiser fan and i can confirm that yes, the moment dwight picked up the lament configuration i almost _screamed._ it got me so excited, esp. since i'd been waiting for the hell priest / pinhead to be added since i joined the game. his demeanour in the trailer, being very calm and showing no emotions, is also really accurate and actually kinda chilling. i love it, it's so simple but it's easily one of my favourites

In terms of doctor's trailer, they didn't change his race between trailer and game, but during concepts, a lot of people wanted a killer based on a real Asian "doctor" who's been torturing his patients to help with addictions to video games. So they took it and changed things around in development including his race

I like playing the doctor a lot but that trailer didn't really do him any justice. I just love that his whole thing is psychological horror, driving the survivors insane feels great!

i think my favourite of the trailers is trickster's! the difference in art style works well and has a lot of charm and the transitions between murder times and onstage are really clean. plus the colours are really really nice! i do wish yun-jin was there though, that would have elevated it.

Going back and seeing your favorite franchise and how it originally started is not only a breath of fresh air but you can also find a hidden gem. With that being said some of these trailers are really goofy, some intentionally and some not. I find it odd considering this is a horror game but they made me smile so I dont mind (especially the ghost face and the one with the voice actor, those were pretty funny).

Ash's trailer was such a nice change of pase,it's in my top 5 for all the trailers My list btw: 1.Resident evil chapter 1,2.All-kill trailer,3.Ash vs evil dead trailer,4.Strangerthings trailer,5.Ghostface trailer

Alright, I must admit that the Resident Evil trailer is absolutely top notch

Tbh, knowing that Hag was followed by huntress and Doctor shows how good BHVR is. They followed a lackluster killer with 2 amazing and unique characters

Fun fact, The Leather Face paragraph has a full trailer. The Xbox Leather Face Trailer has 3d model Bubba In a corn field.

Honestly my top five are: 1. Resident Evil Project W 2. Ghost Face 3. All Kill 4. Silent Hill 5. Stranger Things I love voice lines and the addition of voice acting really made Wesker and the chapter feel special specifically (even if I’m new to resident evil) The character of Ghost Face really shone in the trailer that I just had to be excited for it I’m bias towards All Kill but I love the different animation they did and the music for the trailer really popped and out stood the other trailers in its own way, also the added little lines near the beginning of the trailer really sold it for me I may not be a fan of Silent Hill, but I really love the introduction of Pyramid Head with him dragging the weapon, I would have loved it more if it had a poster like teaser for the ending I recently got into Stranger Things but I already knew who the characters were and it motivated me to watch Stranger Things actually, but I love the reveal of Nancy and Steve at the end

While I liked weskers trailer I was so disappointed when Carlos and Sheva weren’t in the trailer. Carlos is one my favorite characters in al of RE, and it makes me more upset that they could’ve done it since both Claire and Chris were in the original trailer despite also being skins. I guess because they’re skins for Jill and Leon and not the current new survivors. Still a shame tho

A nice citrus smell is really good, because I'm fruity. Put like lemon lavender and a hint of peppermint Also I would have put the spirit one higher, I like that Adam's in there and the fact it kind of uses spirits power and the power sound effect Also also I think ghost face should have been marked down for not having Carl as a survivor and the store in the trailer not being a map :(

Pinhead cinematic is S tier to me because it feels exactly like Hellraiser movie when frank first opened the box

Well then again with the sadako trailer, if you look on the desk with the photos as the phone rings youll find a dbd flashlight 43:47 and at 44:02 youll find a dbd locker in the background so it kinda ties with dbd a bit

I love the smell of petrol Edit: Also supposedly most of the killers look the way they do because the Entity is torturing them, not just Oni. Because Deathslinger was coined "Deathslinger" when he was alive the Entity found it amusing to make him undead. And the Doctor didn't actually do that to himself but the Entity did it to him along with the Blight being the Blight. Nurse having the bag on her head (because she killed the patients by suffocating them with a pllow. Trapper with the hooks. Hag forever hungry. The Spirit remaining broken. Victor being infused with Charlotte, Artist with the ink hands instead of giving her back her normal ones. Now I don't know if this is actually true but it would make a lot of sense. And some of these are most certainly are true. Oni and Hag, possibly Trapper too. So pretty cool imo that the Entity tortures the killers too so that it can gain more nourishment? Amusement? I won't pretend to know what it wants.

10:40 I’m not sure if anyone brought this up, but for Leatherface’s trailer, after the “You” is revealed, it cuts to a scene of Leatherface in a cornfield, revving up his chainsaw and lifting it in the air as he releases his iconic scream. I’ve no clue why not a lot of reaction videos include that version into their list but maybe it could be a copyright of sorts? So there is a bit more shown but you would have to actually find that version 😂

For the sadako one, you can see a DBD flashlight on the table in one of the shots.

So i came into dbd a week before wesker came out. He was also the first killer i played as before pyramid head now he and Wesker are my mains now I also screamed when i went against wesker for the first time since it was a stealth Wesker.

Oddly enough, I think a good concept for Skull Merchant would have been a sleek but more cyberpunk-influenced design, like if Sombra from Overwatch was reimagined as a horror character. Skull Merchant looks like she's halfway there already with her tech and the half-fashionable/half-industrial outfit. If it leaned a bit more sci-fi, that might have sold it better.

My favorite smell is the blast of spices you get when you walk into a really good Indian restaurant. I can confirm, from the perspective of someone who hasn't actually played RE, that the RE trailers are awesome. In fact, I would probably place them at the very top of S-tier for their effective storytelling and showcasing of the characters. The sound design really does carry a lot of these trailers, and honestly the game itself. BHVR's sound designers are *brilliant.*

So I now have a theory that Robert hates the artist (I know he probably doesn’t just let me have this) Here why the artists trailer is high A tier probably low S tier. Jonah has all of the artist pictures behind him as well as the yarn on the white board. He was investigating coordinations that he couldn’t solve that led him towards Carmina aka The Artist. When he looks at one of her paintings he wasn’t taken into the realm it’s just a transition, to show off the artist. In lore he was taken when he was in the grave yard of the towns coordinates. But this trailer is actually showing where the eyrie of crows actually is, it’s inside the painting. That’s why is eyes swirl when he looks into it, he’s literally looking at a living painting. Don’t believe me, why does the ink flow up on the eyrie, because it’s in a painting. It’s an amazing trailer. Sound is great like always, visuals are some of the best, and the massive lore dump for the Artist and Jonah. Yours truly Biased Artist Main.

I feel like realistically Legion or any future characters never could be like that. This game is constantly played with friends. It'd be too easy to say “hey there's a survivors coming by me is that one of you?”

Just a man standing outside, stalking you without any reason, approaches calmly and then kills you in a ruthless way. He ist indeed one of the most popular horror Icons 🤙

Idk why, but the Legion trailer thing is a SUPER common misconception (or at least partial misconception). Yes the trailer did release before the chapter (obviously), but by the time the trailer came out, the chapter had already been in PTB for over a week (trailer dropped December 6th, PTB released November 27th), so everyone in the community already knew fully well what the killer was. I'm guessing the people saying the trailer misled them were probably new fans at the time and decided to try out the game based on the trailer, and didn't know about the PTB. They did release a teaser image before the PTB though of Frank looking in a mirror, with the mirror reflecting the rest of the Legion members, which lead to speculation at the time that the killer would have multiple personalities. TO my memory, I don't recall the idea of the Legion blending in with survivors existing until after the PTB had already been out for a while.

Legion's trailer may not reflect their gameplay, but it perfectly reflects their lore, and the horror fantasy that "The killer could be any one of us." The horror of Legion comes from the fact that they're regular humans, similar to Ghostface's themes. A Darkness Among Us.

I joined during the all kill chapter and it's actually hilarious because I waited forever for my new horror game to download for the first thing for me to see was some dancing anime boy, I then skipped it so I didn't even see the actual scary stuff 💀💀💀💀

Don't like neither Feng nor Doctor in game but I'd put their trailer in A tier because doctor is hands down the scariest killer out of all of them and this trailer is the only ACTUALLY scary trailer of DBD. If we consider (just consider) that DBD is a horror game, this trailer is actually a gem (but yeah Halloween and Bill trailers are ofc more epic, that's why Halloween is S and Bill's trailer is also an A, but a higher A for me; and then there is Ashe trailer which is just the best sh1t ever SS tier - Bruce Campbell is a fecking legend). Edit: yeah I also 100% put the Saw trailer into S but that's more bc I'm a Saw fangirl.

With the legion … I think you don’t have to rank it down … the trailer is great imo. But it would have been cool to have a killer that has the expected blend-in with survivors kinda aspect.

They probably did plan for legions power to be something like people were thinking (one little bit of evidence is just looking at the power we got when he released realizing it is a fairly boring concept and still needed to be changed plenty though-out his life) However they probably changed it because of how weak it would be, if legion were to blend in with the other survivors he would be very easily countered by swf

My top 5 trailers are probably the Skullmerchant 5th, the dredge at 4th, the Oni 3rd, 2nd Halloween, and 1st place for me is The Trickster's. It's the reason i bought DBD after all😂😂 Also my fave smell is fresh baked cinnamon rolls😊 Hope everyone has a great day🤗

Hm. The Last Breath: C it's okay Halloween: A I'm not the biggest fan of Halloween, even though this was what got me into DBD. Of Flesh and Muc: B I really love this one, because of the sounds Left Behind: C wasn't too special for me. Spark of Madness: B I like it (He originally Chinese or Korean and his Name was Mu Yi. But as far as I remember there was a Chinese Doctor who did experiments to unbehaved children I believe with elctroshocks and all. That was a bit too close probably so they changed it. I could be wrong, though.) A Lullaby for the dark: B+ It's very short, but I love Huntress, however, it's not good enough to be A tier. Leatherface: D. I don't like the trailer at all. A Nightmare on Elmstreet: D, unfortunately not the OG Freddy. Saw: A, I really like the head trap. And Tapp is productive and doing a gen. We love Gen Rush Teammates Curtain Call: B, its nice, but it is also Clown. Shattered Bloodline: B, I don't like how Adam looks in the trailer. No matter how much I look at him, it won't go away, and I don't know why it bothers me so much. Darkness Among Us: A+ I love that trailer. Especially since we see David! Demise of the Faithful: A. It is Plague, so of course it's going high. Everything Plague related will be high. Ash vs. Evil Dead: Hmmmm A? I'm not the biggest Ash fan, haven't seen the Movies or the TV series, but it was funny. Ghost Face: S, I love how he throws the money at the end. Stranger Things: B+ It's cool. I like Demo. Cursed Legacy: S. I love the Oni, and the transition from the bright neon colors to the dark, foggy Area is nice. Chains of Hate: B, I like it, especially how Deathslinger cracks in his jaw. Silent HIll: A+ Pyramid Head looks awesome Descend Beyond: A, I wish we would have seen more of the Body Horror. I like that. A Binding of Kin: A, yeah, it's pretty cool. Very eerie. All Kill: S+ My absolute Favorite Resident Evil: S Tier, I have no clue about RE but I love the trailer. Also props for Claire for healing Chris. Finally a team mate that does something. Hellraiser: B, looks cool, poor Dwight, but I like him without glasses. Hour of the Witch: C, looks good, but I don't really like Mikaela. Portrait of a Murder: B, I like Artist's appearance. Sadako Rising: A+ really cool, I like Sadako. Roots of Dread: B, I want to see more of Dredge, I don't really care about Haddie. Resident Evil Project W: S Tier again, even though it has Rebecca in it. At least she's helpful. (I despise you demon! Had more than one Rebecca bully me in game) and Ada actually stuns the killer. so good on her. Forged in Fog: S tier. I love it, because we get a crystal clear shot of my darling Vittorio. The Knight and Companions are 4 to 1, so they just want to play. But I also like how Vittorio picks apart the totem, can we have this as totem cleansing animation, please? Tools of Torment: A, Yeah, the design choices are odd. But overall I like the trailer.

I really hope the new anniversary killer is an original one and not a licensed one

The race thing with doctor may be that the real life man Doctor is based off of is asian.

I feel like the Ghostface and Stranger Things trailers don't tie into dbd at all but you didn't mention that for those whereas you did for the other licenses afterwards. All I'm sayin is, Sadako trailer easy S tier.

Personally I think you're putting way to many into S tier. I understand its opinion based and all that, not a problem, but to put many things into the top tier leaves little wiggle room as well as suggests that for example the ghostface trailer is on par with everything else in that tier, which I can't say the Stranger things trailer QUITE meets that level of quality and cinematography. That's not to say it's bad at all, but thats what the A tier is for ;P Been loving these videos btw. Keep them up ❤😊
