I always thought that "Just The Way Your Are", "She's Always a Woman to Me", and "She's Got A Way" were him talking about the same woman. To her, in response to something someone said about her, and talking to a close friend about her; respectively. Of the three songs, "She's got a Way" is my favorite. Maybe because it's just Billy's vocals and his piano? All of them are beautiful love songs!
It must’ve been a different arrangement. I taught band for 24 years. It was a homecoming tradition song when the band stood on the field and they named the homecoming queen. It was definitely tenor, but I bet there were a dozen band versions. I’m such a band geek!
This is called a love song. This was when the songs were really love letters and not sang at or about their partner but to them. Totally different than today.
@@docsavage8640 The album The Stranger was released in 1977 but singles from albums that are released can also be in the same year and stay in the chart long enough to run into the following year (especially if released towards the end of the year) or several singles from an album can be released, meaning some will not be until the following year. Just The Way You Are was released in September 1977 but peaked in the US chart in February 1978 and the Grammy Awards are usually held at the beginning of the year around January to March time, so do not honour music from the same year but instead from the one before. So if Just The Way You Are at some stage charted in 1978 despite being released in 1977, then it was still be eligible for Grammy awards in 1979.
@@mollyprice1485 l bought my copy on a cassette, which I'm glad to say is still OK, unlike many I've had to throw away, they proved themselves to be very unreliable. l bought many of my albums on cassette in those days as they were suitable for playing in a car, l wish now as things have changed and vinyl is popular again that I'd bought more albums back then on vinyl, but hey ho, you live and learn. Going back to this great album, it's quite rare for an album by any artist to be so great from start to finish, but Billy managed it with this classic!
@Keith, sadly I only have a few. Billy Joel, Queen greatest Hits, George Michael Faith, and Little River Band. Even sadder, I have to borrow my son’s record player. He’s way cooler than me!
Yes, Billy's got soul. He's just an all around incredible artist and performer. I was so incredibly blessed to see him live with Elton John. Two masters of the piano and song writing. Gosh. That was an experience of a lifetime. Love me some Billy.
Captain Jack is a hidden gem. not too many people ever mention that one, but it's one of my favs I pull out for people who think Billy Joel is just easy listening music.
Yes it is a saxophone. Love your reaction. You can't go wrong with ANY Billy Joel song, and they are so varied. I don't see how ANYONE could DISLIKE Billy Joel's music, if they do, they have no feelings, soul, or empathy. I LOVE Billy Joel and have seen him live in concert and he puts on a fantastic show.
Jojo!! Lots are gonna tell you "New York State of Mind". It is a fantastic song, but try "Still Rock and Roll to Me". It's gonna give you some perspective on the kind of flavor he can switch it up to, and show you how dynamic he is. 80's Billy Joel F'n rocks
I'll probably be the only one who says to react to Billy Joel's And So It Goes. Beautiful song. Love all his songs. Keep going down the rabbit hole of Billy Joel. He's awesome!!!
I love your reaction. I felt the same way when I first heard it 40 years ago. "She's Always A Woman" has the same smooth vibe and heartfelt lyrics, if a little darker. Check it out Jojo.
Billy Joel is Jewish. The creators of Superman were Jewish. It is common for many Hebrew names of ancient origin to end in -el because it references God. Joel or Yo'el translates to 'Yah is God' (Yah = YHWH = Yahweh = Jehovah). Kal--el or Kalel = 'voice of God'. There is a similarity to the Arabic name Khaleel, meaning “intimate friend” or “close companion.” Khaleel is a common Muslim name. So, up to you to decide whether Superman is actually off-world Jewish.
Oh, I saw the joke; you're fine. I saw it was light-hearted. I just took this as an opportunity to educate others. Most people don't know those details, which I personally find fascinating. I was just sharing something interesting. @@wildj9912
The talent...the ability to play piano and sing at the same time, then also writing the music and the lyrics of each song. He writes from his life, his experiences, and what inspires him. He tells stories with music, lyrics, and his soul. The saxophone on this really emphasizes the deep inner truth of what he is singing. Awesome reaction, dude! New York State Of Mind, Scenes From An Italian Restaurant, The Stranger, Captain Jack, Miami 2017 (I've Seen The Lights Go Out On Broadway), You're Only Human, Tell Her About It, My Life, River Of Dreams, Baby Grand (duet with Ray Charles), Two Thousand Years, Uptown Girl, Movin' Out (Anthony's Song), Goodnight Saigon, I Go To Extremes, Tell Her About It, Pressure, Big Shot, Uptown Girl, Honesty... So many songs to hear...you could go crazy trying to react to even half of his huge catalog of music. Whatever Billy Joel songs you react to...I'm gonna watch. Keep up the awesome work!
He's got a huge library of hits! You've got to react to another great Billy Joel song "The Longest Time" where every sound you hear in that song is him. Every vocal, harmony and snap is all him....no instruments. It's amazing!!!
He's definitely passionate and deep. Loved this reaction too. Grew up with Billy Joel albums. These lyrics describe what unconditional true love..really is. An inspiration.
I had singers at my wedding in 1979, and they sang this song during the wedding service! It’s one of my all time favorites. I love the saxophone player!
I would like to see your reaction to Paul Revere and the Raiders "Indian Nation". I just started watching these reaction videos and I love to see young people react to the songs I grew up with.
Love your reaction. He's legend. PLEASE listen to "Honesty" one of the BEST ones ever !!! Lots of soul in it. You FEEL it in your heart, body, and soul. Love when that happens to you. Almost every time. YOU are a beautiful soul dude.
Every song on every Billy Joel album was written by Billy Joel. And all his albums are worth listening to all the way through. When Billy Joel came out with something brand new. Most didn’t go out and buy the single. They went out and bought the album.
Bro! Your reaction is (just as this song) a 10!! Love it!! Billy Joel is a Genius thru and thru. I've been on a Billy Joel Bender after not visiting his music for many years, and you just put the exclamation at the end!! Props to you bro. Keep em coming!!
So Billy Joel has 20 or 30 songs of equally high quality. You can pretty much choose to listen to any of them and you'll be impressed. Some of the ones I think you will enjoy the most include Scenes from an Italian Restaurant; Honesty; And So It Goes; Why Do I Go to Extremes?; For the Longest Time; We Didn't Start the Fire; and You May Be Right. And for a really emotional one: Goodnight Saigon about Vietnam vets is a true masterpiece.
After the Beatles, Billy Joel is my favorite musical artist. Piano Man is good, but overplayed and over commercialized. This song is great, and is just scratching the surface of the Billy Joel brilliance vault. “She’s Always A Woman”, “Miami (2017),” written in the 1980’s and a futuristic song, “New York State of Mind”, and the list goes on and on. I’ve had the privilege to attend 3 of his concerts, and some of the best I’ve seen. MORE Billy Joel!!
Glasshouse, Bigshot, I'm Moving Out, Only the Good Die Young, I have his first 5 albums. I've had them for 40 years. I saw him in concert in 1978. Love him.
Not a big Piano Man fan...don't go hatin'...he's a slice of Americana admittedly, I love❤ 1. A Matter of Trust 2. River of Dreams 3. We Didn't Start the Fire Just to get a feel of Joel's repertoire...lots of diversity. That's a sax Baby! Great vid JoJo😁
So glad you diggin this great music from one of the best storytellers and performers of all time. And I wasn’t attacking you on how to pronounce his name. Just enlightening you haw to say his name correctly. Appreciate it. Keep up the good job and playing beautiful music.
Fun fact: The sax part on this track was NOT played by Richie Cannata, the regular sax man in Billy's band. It's actually a guest appearance by the jazz giant, Phil Woods.
Always a Woman is amazing! But I still say you gotta do Vienna. It has a beautiful meaning. He was visiting his dad (I think) in Vienna, Austria, and he thought it was really sad when he saw a very old woman sweeping the sidewalk. His dad told him that it was a different culture and how in our culture we tend to think that elderly people are kind of useless, but in Vienna, they are very well respected and revered and always thought of as having a great purpose. No matter what you do, even just sweeping a sidewalk, or how old you get, you’ll always be important. “Vienna waits for you.”
Ya i knew people would bug ya about how you JOEL. Haha, But Hon You have a huge heart and alot of soul . You seem like an amazing young man. You should be proud of who you are. Very perseptive.Billy is a EXTREEM legend...
First off you have a great ear attached to a great mind young man. Billy Joel is a brilliant and diverse artist, check out “Goodnight Saigon” and “We didn’t start the fire” to experience another side of Billy Joel! Thank you for sharing. Just subscribed!
The Billy Joel songs that hit me the hardest were "Goodnight Saigon" and "Allentown" I'm not sure you'll like them, but the power behind those songs punched me in the face the first time I heard them.
TENOR SAX- ultimate CLASSY beautiful instrument to accompany great vocalist singing elegant and moving love songs ❤️👍 Also incredible Jazz instrument, especially solo! (I confess, it’s my personal favorite - listen to Stan Getz playing Desafinado and you’ll know why). Love your reactions 🥰
