That is my grandfather on the piano, Arthur Weinstein. Played piano as a young man and continued to share his passion for music until the day he passed away in 2010. He returned home from Korea in 1957. In January of 1958, his wife, Dorothy, gave birth to my father, Russell Weinstein. An amazing guitarist and a human encyclopedia of all things music, had an extremely dysfunctional relationship with his father which has always made him feel disconnected from his own dad. I hope finding this footage for my dad can show him that him and his father have much more in common than he thinks. Music has honesty saved my dad's life. I also enjoy this video because I am a lover of all things vintage and historic, and boy is this woman a groundbreaker :-) She has inspired me since I was a child. This footage means a lot to me in so many ways. Thanks for reading.

it's time to stop. k? Yes, he did speak with her a couple of times. He said that him and all of his army buddies would just drool over Marilyn! They were all so excited to have a beautiful woman there to entertain them and give them a refreshing piece of home in America. She spent a lot of time getting to know the soldiers. She was human just like us. It's hard for people to understand that. She was and still is an idol, but she was not much different than us. :-)

I work in a retirement home for Screen Actors Guild members. Some of the residents who are now in their 90's knew Marilyn. They all said she was the sweetest, most down to Earth person. One of them was a play write and a former screenwriter, who was a good friend and neighbors with Marilyn back in NYC in the 50's. He showed me a photo of her at his apartment, where she had come over to a pot luck he was having. She was sitting at a small table with a small group of people having what appeared to be the biggest belly laugh. He said she was an excellent baker and was so well read. You could talk to her about anything.

Not only she sang her heart out. As I understand from a documentary, the weather was cold. With the dress she wore, it must be chilly for her. Someone had suggested she wore thick clothing, but she said the servicemen would love to see her dressed the way she always did. She went the mile to perform for the troop.

At that time our country was among one of poorest country in the world but now South Korea become 20th wealthy country in term of GDP. We Korean are thankful for the support from Western country, particularly from USA and other Western allies, like UK and Canada.

@onemillionpercent
@onemillionpercent 6 лет назад
Poet Victoria Hunter no no. She was considered plus sized back then. Sure she smoked and drank, like any other person then. Plus yes she got a bit of work on her face (her nose, but not implants, if u compare, and from what surgeons have said), but her body is natural and curvy, the only thing slim about her is her waist, and that’s just how she was built. It’s natural. Yes she did bleach her hair but with dark or blonde hair both she looked beautiful and iconic. Her IQ was definitely another very beautiful thing about her and for me, her intelligence and personality and sweetness, plus that smile and those eyes, will definitely too my list of things I find beautiful about her. Her body comes after that too though.
@onemillionpercent
@onemillionpercent 6 лет назад
Poet Victoria Hunter she is most definitely not my role model but she is still someone I admire and respect because she truly has had a hard life but she still thrived (except her sad later years). everyone and their mother knows she was hooked on drugs before she killed herself - she was depressed. I don’t want to look like her, I’m not white either. Her body is nice for sure though, but I want to be myself. Beyoncé? Ur seriously telling me, a huuuuge fan of Beyoncé (and MJ), that she wouldn’t be respected after death? Honey, she’s respected NOW while she’s alive, why wouldn’t she in death? Also she may have gotten a nose surgery, and who knows what else but it does not take away from her beauty at all, such small things, same w Marilyn. Whitney Houston is also still respected after her death, and same w/ MJ. You could have used a better example because there is definitely a difference between how white and colored people are treated but that doesn’t mean we have to hate white icons. She got work done, but so have so many celebrities NOW, ones people idolize 🙄 all in all, im just saying there’s nothing to hate her about: her beauty, her sweetness, her IQ or her mind. P.S. I love her for her mind too. I wasn’t meaning to come for you, I was meaning to object to the Marilyn slander, but yeah.
@onemillionpercent
@onemillionpercent 6 лет назад
Poet Victoria Hunter (heh that’s all you replied to, aight). I’m not even white lmao nor do I like most white people bc I do have a not so good view of them. Ur life was hard but that doesn’t make any other person’s life less hard. She didn’t know her parents, from what I heard, she had a bad foster mother, she was sad for a lot of her life and was constantly emotionally abused by the men in her life when she just wanted to be loved. She was rich and famous yes but she got there herself using her charms, body, grace, singing and dancing. And she was never really happy. can’t hate someone just cuz they got rich with their own merit. She made bad choices but so did any other person. No one is perfect. Anyway, that’s all I have to say. I’ll end it here bye. :)

She wanted to be a star. But she was destined for tragedy. She was too pretty, too talented, and too nice. She had no idea how high a price they would make her pay for that stardom. However, even if Hollywood was never a part of Marilyn's life, there was no guarantee of Marilyn living a long, happy life as she never appeared to make a choice to confront and deal with her demons - feelings of abandonment and desire to be loved. She appeared not to love herself yet wanted others to love her. She self-medicated with alcohol, drugs and men rather than making the choice to deal with her past trauma. I don't believe that there was no one in her life that could not see the destructive path that she was on and didn't lovingly tell her and try to persuade her away from her soul-destroying lifestyle.

Here she is performing live on stage in front of thousands in the freezing cold with a live band no less and back up singers. Antoinette Jolie - Madame Sade Thanks for your comment... and confirming what I said. You've worked in the entertainment business for years... and you've gotten absolutely nowhere. So you see someone as dazzling as Marilyn and you're probably sitting there wondering how this person with "too much make up and big thighs" made it and you haven't, (as I'm sure you're thinking, judging on your comments). Well listen lady, being a star isn't just about looks; it's about charisma and the way you connect with people. And the few comments I've read from you REEK of bitterness and jealousy. And I don't know why women always cut each other like that. You gals are always claiming men are the sexist ones. But, really, you lot don't have each others backs at all. Particularly if the target is attractive. I've seen this too many times. I wasn't trying to offend you, really. But you absolutely fall into the category of women who see a successful woman and wonder why it isn't you. You WISH you could have this effect on people like Marilyn did - there you are night after night working in clubs / on stage / whatever / trying to make your dreams come true. But you are still in the waiting line. My advice? Enjoy those that can, like Marilyn. And be happy with what you've got. I'm sure you're a nice person. You need to reconnect to that part of yourself and appreciate other women's talents rather than leaving catty remarks on RU-vid, (body shaming??) I get the feeling you're more than that. Take care.

@@kronkspapi4245 No Lana is beautiful, but Mairlyn created her image no producer contributed to her career. She know what both man and women wanted in a star.

Her beauty is different, just like other woman. I guess that’s why she is so liked because she like other woman, has a different aura that everyone prefer. I mean it’s on the person preference on what they like.

Marilyn was determined to entertain the soldiers despite the cold. She was a sweet, good and loving person. Would have been great to see her in an Elvis picture or else sing a song with him. Two beautiful people inside and out. ❤️❤️

Oh how I love Marilyn, I could just watch her all day. Such beauty and grace with a little bit of sorrow. Truly a gem

Miss Monroe gave a lot to entertain men stuck in a lousy war far from home. To say she cheered them up is an understatement.

This is wonderful! In the very first biography ever written about Marilyn, by Fred Lawrence Guiles, it was stated that her performance in Korea was the most photographed event on the planet up to that time.

She was actually good singer and a great performer and I wish she could be heard more - I know they were thrilled to see her, but I wish they could have quietened down a bit and listened to her great performance.
