Yes, Michael was the star period. But his brother's were and still are stars in there own right. When today's hard core MJ fans say negative things about his brothers, I invite them to check out all the historical video. They all had talent.
Let's differentiate between 'star quality' and talent. The Music biz had no doubt that they were all talented beyond measure; that's the secondary reason they were all there (there was a tertiary (third-level) reason, and that's because family groups were the in thing at that time. If there was a fourth reason, it had to be Joe, who was the only reason his kids even got to be where they were in the first place. BUT, after they were established as a group, the primary reason the rest of the brothers were there--Joe knew it, the Music Biz knew it, and, somehow, I think all the older brothers knew it--is because Michael was there. No Michael, no drawing card. Any fan or casual observer of J5 at the time had to see that Michael was the standout. Now, Michael needed the group at the time; he needed the recognition that came with being the front man (boy?). The brothers were catalyst, like thrusters to a rocket. Michael was going places, and he benefited immeasurably from the talent in his sibling backup band. All the notoriety that Joe and the brothers achieved was through the reflection of Michael. He was the youngest, and most innocent, which was all the more reason to love that he could dance the dance, walk the walk and sing the song. Whether Michael could have gone as far as simply part of the setup, in imitation of, say, the early Commodores, we'll never know. He was never destined to be simply a member. His talented brothers were not imbued with that 'star quality' that came together as a whole from all the parts of Michael Jackson. The family was indispensably one of those parts. Without Michael, J5 would be another footnote in musical history. What 'star quality' really means, we can duke that out ourselves, I guess, but it was Michael's blessing. He appealed to millions, and his family promoted that. That's just the way it was.
Suzanne De Passé has been telling extremely fascinating stories in recent interviews about her time grooming the Jackson Five, as well as, finding Lionel Richie and the Commodores that she promises to include in a book she plans on writing soon. I can’t wait for that book.
I believe all the Jackson brothers were talented musically ! A lot of the focus was put on Michael . I believe the other brothers should have been given more solo parts in the songs !!!!! I so believe the stress put upon Michael caused his autoimmune diseases...Vitiligo and Lupus ! He is all of 12 in this video. That means Marlon is only 13, Jermaine is about 15, Tito is about 17 and Jackie 19 !!!! Look at the tremendous pressure on these young kids. And they also had to be tutored in school . (VDH)
mayhem mayhem His autopsy said nothing of Lupus, only confirmed Vitiligo...since vitiligo is a skin disorder its not far fetched that he suffered from occasional rashes as well...
Mike was funny he took the mike pointed at her she made cat scratch at him so adorable that just shows even as a kid mj knew what he was doing and wanted to always have fun
Kind of makes me wish I was born in this generation I was eight when he passed away so I didn’t get to experience him in all his glory he was definitely a very talented person from the day he was born he was brought into this world to do what he was meant to do ❤️
The universe is mysterious and magical, growing old sucks but is also important, who knows.. when we die we might be able to come back and experience the 60s again if we choose.
This is a very unique clip of the Jackson brothers preparing for a show with Johnny Jackson playing the drums, Ronnie Racifer playing the otgan, Tito on the guitar, Jermaine on bass, Jackie playing the cowbell, and Marlon and Micael are singing and dancing there heart out! This is the last show of the first tour, right? The brothers are very talented!
@SofiatheMoonwakingArmy I think marlon was playing the woodblock and Michael gurio Toriano gibson es 345 tdc Jermaine Gibson eb 0 Ronnie Farfisa professional 222 Jackie cowbell Johnny just regular jackson 5 drums and Jermaine Acoustic 360 amp Tito Acoustic 260 amp
SilkySlim , Yeah! your spot on with that! "Grown man" style is Joe's influence. Boy's, offstage we dress like men! the world is watching. Sadly, nowdays we got grown-ass men dressing like teenagers! go figure!
I'm crying michael was being a annoying lil brother and tried to snatch jermaine's cards(?) that he was shuffling and jermaine forreal smacked michael dead in the face he looked so annoyed I'm crying 0:01-0:14
BaByLaStrAnGe LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I have two sisters, and I am the youngest I know what having siblings is like. I wasn't actually crying, it was more like crying with laughter jesus, if you read the comment properly you would had got the tone right on the first read. ANYWAYS
BaByLaStrAnGe why would I try harder for strangers Idc about or idk who will probably read my comment?? why would I stress myself for your irrelevant self?? make some sense lmao bye
+BaByLaStrAnGe When she says she was crying, she was probably implying that she was crying of laughter. That part was a funny, brotherly moment. What's so hard to understand?
+BaByLaStrAnGe Ridiculous. There's no reason to insult someone. There was absolutely nothing wrong with her post.Black people say "crying" means they laughed so hard they cried.Yes, it was funny, because she can relate with having an annoying little brother.Sheesh.
+Le Rosa Dol if mike was 12, Marlon is 13, Jermaine is 16, Tito is 17, and Jackie is 19 at the time.... - Jackie is two years older than Tito - Tito is a year older than Jermaine - Jermaine is four years older than Marlon - Marlon is one year older than Michael or Starting from Michael Michael is one year younger than Marlon, who's four years younger than Jermaine, who's one year younger than Tito, who's two years younger than Jackie... That's how I do it... 😂
Yours is the best statement on this (and other Jackson 5 posts) post. I witnessed the Jackson 5 in these early days, and my friends and I would leave the concerts in total awe of Jermaine and Tito's musical prowess. Just think, in this rehearsal they were just 16 and 17 years old respectively. This outfit was competing against the dynamite bands of James Brown and Sly & the Family Stone. And these kids held their own on a world class stage. This would be unheard of today.
Vegans Rock Thank you for noticing. We all know Michael was a child prodigy and maybe the greatest entertainer of all time, but too many people on these posts dismiss the Jackson 5 members. They had otherworldly talent and it should be noted on these posts. The problem is, everybody tries to view the Jackson 5 through the lens of today's manufactured "boy bands" or the hip hop foolishness. You must look at the Jackson 5 through another lens: the lens of Motown & Stax, Sly Stone, Jackie Wilson, James Brown as well as the rock acts of that day. And this is not to mention the Civil Rights zeitgeist of that era.
Juan Leonardo Have you listened to young black radio today? Young Thug, Gucci Mane, etc. That is foolishness compared to Rakim and KRS One. And compared to the Jackson 5, young black radio today is idiocy. History will bear this out as fact in the distant future.
Everyone seemed to be on their grind including a very young Ms.Suzanne Depasse, because she was very good friends with Diana Ross before she worked with Motown, and she was definitely hustling between the Jackson Five and the set of "Lady Sings The Blues" to get the respect she needed from Berry Gordy and the Motown Company around this time.
@@mariahyohannes the Jackson Five was her first project with Motown. She was their everything: Stylist, Road Manager, Choreographer, Manager, and etc. She stayed with them until she discovered the Commodores in 1973.
Self taught, and fueled by a dedicated father. The greatest boy band of my generation and the pride of Gary, Indiana The Jackson Five, featuring Johnny on Drums and Ronny on keys.
Remember this time, when I thought , " He sure is short !....only reacheas Jackie to his chest."........we were ALL into this 'Little Mikey' thing - even myself, who was littler than HE was ( 9), when I had that awesome priviledge of seeing them in 1971.
PURE LOVE and deeply RESPECT to Jackson five and Motown family GRATEFUL FOR the GREATNESS OF YOUR INNOCENT CREATIVITY that is a GIFT TO GENERATIONS TO COME TIMELESS
this when real music was made & performed live in concert this is the way The Real talent showed not like today,s technicians they can electronic sounds to appear like they are really singing & performing it,s rare that Performers singers use real Drummers singers
I was watching this on You/tube the other night about one of the tours rehearsal for The Jackson five because there was special Of twenty five year celebration Of Micheal Jackson Moonwalk the rest of those earlier years before he was a pop star he was about ten years old in this clip we grew up listening to The Jackson 5
I don't care what anyone says about Joe Jackson. He may have been harsh on them but he drew out the talent in those kids. They wouldn't do it but they have it in them
@@alazjaw.8968 We all were abused back in the day. Remember "Spare the rod, spoil the child?" well, I seem to recall my friends in my diverse neighborhood when I was young, and all of us talking about getting spanked, whipped, beaten, board of educated (paddled) belted, etc. Those were my black friends, my Spanish friends, and just everyone got hit by their parents in some way. It was Universally cultural, shall we say!! Some kids were more sensitive. Usually, it wasn't something that happened too often, and I would say most of us grew up to be good and somehow empathetic people.
I love watching any rehearsal material. The ones I find difficult to watch are the This Is It videos - but I'm sure you all know why. MJ for ever and ever.
I sure hope that there is hours and hours more of this somewhere that will soon be officially released in Super Deluxe Editions of all of their studio l.p.s!!!
I kinda get now why the older brothers went off and married early as soon as they turned 18. The brothers had to listen to so many people: their parents of course, Berry, Suzanne, the writers, producers, tour managers, choreographers, arrangers, photographers for photo sessions , tutors etc. geez. Being child entertainers was NOT easy at all.
I went early to a Jacksons concert in May 79, because l thought they would do a sound check like this. I was able to witness their arrival in the limo in the back of the theater where they were performing. Those kids would go from five ordinary kids to five sticks of musical dynamite when the music started to play.
I saw this concert in Chicago (when I was 4) and I still remember being annoyed that my father kept letting the teenage girl in the row behind us borrow his binoculars. We only had the one for a family of four, so it was already hard enough to share lol.
We new the jacksons sound on the jacksons music videos Electric guitar sound on drum sad sound on they want their own RU-vid channel 1000000000099 likes sound affects feet sound on
somebody make me a time machine and beam me into this video right after I get all my money out the bank PLEASE lol little Michael see me pop in from outta nowhere sayin' "who da hell is YOU"
I actually prefer these practice sessions more than the live stuff lol. This is the period when Funk was at its initial early stages Sly and the family stone was the biggest act in the world in 1970, Isley's biggest albums haven't dropped yet. Marvins landmark album "what's going on" would drop a year later.
It's weird to me that that drummer and keyboard play were never acknowledged regardless of the fact that they were there since Gary Indiana since the very beginning
