Re-Editing the Rach 3 Ossia Cadenza!?

Wonderful! I never sat down to fully dissect the ossia fingerings before, will definitely be trying yours out. Bar 371, there’s some missing natural and sharps in the top notes in the third triplet.

Thank you for the huge effort you are putting into this project. In 2018 I searched the whole internet for fingerings for the concerto and couldn't find them anywhere. Likewise, there were almost no analyses or clues on RU-vid on how to play it and such helpful and understandable tips. I wouldn't have dared to dream then that someday someone would make such a series on my favorite piano concerto. What you are doing here is such a valuable decade work and numerous pianists will still be grateful to you for it. And even if for me personally it is not yet in sight that I will be able to play it one day, your videos are a constant motivation to at least try to start with easier parts. Priceless. Thanks also for your numerous and instructive Patreon videos on the subject. The fact that you have opened this account was one of the reasons why 2022 has become a reasonably good piano playing year for me.

Hey, I'm just learning this piece so you obviously know it better than I do, but I think there might be a little typo in m. 365 (f# should be a g). That said, I love your score and thanks for sharing it with us. When can we expect the full edition?

Thanks Josh for the great tips and your edition for the Rach 3 Ossia --- I find it awesome and it is so much easier to read than the published editions available. One small suggestion that I would have is, please consider using cross-staff notations or L-shaped brackets to denote suggested use of different hands to play some notes rather than moving the note and the stem themselves to the different staff. It would be much better if the (editorial) score could remain as similar to the original editions as possible in terms of engraving and voices, as it may have some impacts on subtle voicing or musical interpretations. Some other nitpickings would be that the "8va.." signs seem overly big, and that the bar number since two different versions of Cadenzas would join together (m.342) seems confusing; you may consider adding alternative bar numbers as well (e.g. m.306 in the original v.s. m.308 w/ ossia). All that said, thanks again for sharing such an invaluable score that allows more effective practicing!

9:54 I personally find over-the-octave technique better with 1-2-3-5 1-2-4-5 fingers
