I just found out today that Anthony was not the original featured artist,. He stepped in three days before the shoot, recorded his part and was ready to go. A consumate professional. Eli arranged their cover of Eleanor Rigby three years ago, I hope we don't have to wait that long for another from him.
That wasn’t an edit in the end. It was a live transition where the mirror was pushed forward and Geoff moved to the right and out of the way, plus the transition of lights. Great timing.
That's OK, sometimes things happen beyond our control. I am glad you're feeling better, we missed you. Thank you for another great reaction to Voice Play. As always Voice Play seems to knock everything the do out of the ball park. If you get a chance watch Peter Barber's hour long interview with Geoff. it's titled Geoff Castallucci Flavor Of Bass. It is awesome.
I'm speculating, but I think when all 5 are sitting in a row, Eli being the shortest forms a perfect "V". It's the same on Nothing Else Matters featuring J. None.
Sometimes it is a lighting choice or other practical reason that the featured guest is not in the middle. JNone was not in the middle for Nothing Else Matters, for example. Love how much you appreciated the transition with Cesar at the end--not all reactors seem to notice how awesome it is. I hope we get to see more and more Eli arrangements in the future!
You didn’t miss an announcement, I noticed the same thing, and I’ve wondered the same thing. And…they’ve done a lot with him recently. Not that I’m complaining: the kid is remarkable. I’d be perfectly happy with him. As to Layne’s beatboxing not “matching”: the phrase you’re looking for is rhythmic counterpoint. 😊. You can also have melodic counterpoint. They use both. And that “amazing edit” wasn’t an edit. They did that physically in real time. The other four did a quick scoot out of the way and hit the mirror up.
Pappy, in Nothing Else Matters, J wasn't in the middle. Also just saw Peter's interview with Geoff and I guess Anthony filled in at the last moment when the Feature became sick. That said, Anthony killed it. They all did. Cesar broke my heart. Welcome back!! Great job. And yeah, VP is a big bite to start with. :)
last time Eli was in the middle was in the Nothing Else Matters video. He was placed there due to difficult lighting conditions. This being a similar video (dark room with bright lights) I assume the reason is similar.
Eli did the arrangement, lighting, production. They may have done it for the mechanics of getting Cesar and Anthony in front of the mirror. I love the mirror in this song. By the way, Peter Barber interviewed Geoff today which was a neat event. Good to have you back!
I loved your reaction, but what really got me was your smile at the end. I was so done and over today. I was feeling like I couldn't reach down far enough to pull myself out of the hole I'm living in right now. But your smile made me realize that I can. Your strength and commitment encourages me. Thank you. And I know about things being hectic. Hope they've smoothed out for you by now.
I suffer from anxiety and depression so I have a lot of down days. My go-tos are Boy Bands in Five Minutes which always makes me smile, and I Love Me which serves as a good knock upside my head to remind me not to be so hard on myself. Maybe they’ll help you😊. (I have a playlist just for songs like that.) I would offer my mom’s cheer up expression of “May your days be sunny”, but it’s 109 today where I’m at so that’s a no go 🥵!
The edit was actually one continuous shot. On Tony's cue, everyone else grabbed their stool and cleared the set while someone moved the mirror back in front of Cesar. On filming day in the studio Geoff denied having anything to do with designing the shoot ... but Kathy included in the BTS the clip of her sitting in the chair in front of a mirror while Geoff walked around her, filming and directing her to emote more as she lip synched to the song. Ha! I haven't liked any version of this song, until now. Just want to give them all a hug, especially Cesar. He can be fun and sassy like in Butter and just as easily make me cry like he did here and in I Can't Make You Love Me.
I imagine Eli got the middle spot because he pretty much did everything on this one. Arrangement, lights, etc...........the list is long. :-) And it's incredible.
Love your laughter and reaction. Sometimes it’s best to go head first into VoicePlay. 😅 Usually the guest is in the middle but not all the time. There’s no official rule on that. Eli is in the middle because he arranged this song and everything. It’s been a long time since he last arranged a song (Eleanor Rigby) so I hope he does it again soon. This was so good.
Yes it's Garjoola. :) Those voices coming in behind Geoff's "body" are sensational. This was an Eli arrangement. And he killed it. I'm guessing here but whenever thsy sit in a row like this they tend to put the two tall guys at the end, and the small guy in the middle. It' just looks better, more balanced, Aesthetically pleasing. That's how I see it anyway. You can see the same thing in Nothing Else Matters, where J was the guest. Eli in the middle. Even as far back as Can't Help Falling in Love they do it.
I had not noticed till I read your comment just how distinct the height disparity is when they are seated. When they’re standing there’s the famous apple box or just a different camera angle, but they can’t do that when they’re all seated. Great observation!
Good to see you back. You certainly threw yourself in the deep end by picking this as your first reaction back! Another reactor coming back from a break, that I watch, eased themselves in by doing Home Free's "Might As Well Be Me", that released the same day, as their first - a little more light hearted than this. That being said, this is a phenomenal production! The arrangement and performance are top-notch. I've said it on other reactions that the original and the covers I'd previously heard of this did nothing for me but this cover...... amazing!! Love it.
I suspect that possibly Eli was highlighted and in the middle because this is his arrangement. I believe its only the 2nd one he did for the group, and he knocked this sucker into orbit! That's what I like to think...that everyone told him to sit in the middle because he blew the tops of their heads off. I hope he arranges a lot more! Its pretty damn amazing!
You guys are absolutely amazingly awesome! Can't wait to see your reaction to Geoff's version of Folsom Prison Blues! You guys are great! Thank you!!❤❤
Welcome back and i hope life continues in an upward spiral for you and your family. 😊 Thay definitely took us on a roller-coaster on this one. I loved every moment of it. 🥰 I just wish I could have given them hugs and tell them how they are not creeps and how much they've meant to us. Since I am not going to be able to I've had to make do with giving my dogs and family extra hugs (the dogs liked it better then the family) Looking forward to the next reaction. Again hope life allows you better times.
You are always such a breath of fresh air with your vulnerability and goodness. Love your reactions and also absolutely adore VoicePlay. So excited for baby Jacobsons arrival!!
Awesome reaction as always Pappy. Kudos to Eli for his arrangement of this song and video. The mirror effect was Geoff's idea. The mirror belongs to Cesar.
I love your reactions to Voiceplay! And I'm so happy to seeing you back and looking like you are doing so much better! Thank you Pappy for brightening this old womans day lol ❤
Welcome back 🙂. I enjoyed your reaction so much, as always. 🙂 This song is a masterpiece in many aspects. Loved the arrangement (kudos to Eli), the transitions, the editing, everything. 🙂 And to see you sing (silently) along, and show your emotions throughout it, was beautiful. 🙂 Take care, and see you next time! 🙂
No, as far as I know Anthony has not been offered a full time position. From an aesthetic point of view (and maybe this is why Eli did not put Anthony in the middle), the height of individuals on each side matches.
You mention Brian Justin Crum. Superfruit, which is Scott Hoying and Mitch Grassi from Pentatonix, did a cover of Katy Perry rise. It features Brian Justin Crum Mario Jose and Mary Lambert. All of them are friends with Mitch and Scott and members of the LGBTQ+ Community. The video was done in response to the shooting at the Pulse nightclub. It Is sun with Such emotion and The song being very Importance to them. I would still love to see you react to in the air tonight. If you say right up front that you have seen it then You're not Trying to fool anybody. You can give your feedback about what you liked and what you didn't as the Video plays. I for one was anxiously looking for your reaction To in the air in the air tonight.
