MOONBYUL IS SUCH A GENIUS LYRICIST.. absence isn't even about her experience, she made this about the k-drama she watched (World of the Married Couple).. it's about a woman who her husband cheated on her in the end the husband still chose her, but she can't shake this feeling of doubt and all of that feeling bcoz the trust isn't there anymore

"I wasn't expecting a featured artist" lol that was actually the producer, Park Woo Sang! In the making video for the song, she mentioned that she wanted a voice in the song that could give off the effect as if someone was "comforting" her or something like that and she just volunteered him to do it and he just kinda... had to say yes LOL also fun fact: moonbyul couldn't decide whether she should keep the "la la la" part at the ending so she went on vlive real quick to ask Moos which ending they preferred lmaooo
Moon's pretty famous for her flair for the melodramatic. Shes been prolific in her production of songs shes definitely someone you can tell is constantly writing and just has so many ideas she needs to get out. She also is probably the one with the most... direct relationship with moos. She has this sense of gratitude towards them for supporting her and allowing to bloom as an artist. Its definitely important to understand how she had to struggle to find her place because her talents are so nontraditional. Shes someone who wasnt allowed to walk the path she wanted to initially being denied being a singer, having to learn to rap from having no previous experience and finding her voice and confidence from her performance and rap to be able to get back to her original dream by taking her performance and rap and creating something entirely her own Always happy to see your reactions Austin hope your days going well.
Moonbyul's writing style is extremely emo. She is the queen of sad songs. There is no featured artist she asked PWS who helped her film and produce the soundtrack to lend his voice to the song
Moonbyul isn't 'the rapper' of Mamamoo, she is Moonbyul of Mamamoo. Period. I agree with you 💯. Each one of Mamamoo could have debuted solo and smashed the charts, somehow we got blessed and have all four of them together.
yes, she doesn't refer to any gender with her writings. Funny thing is, with Absence, she was watching this Korean Drama called The World of Married. She got inspired and put it in writing. I think based on her fave character of the series. @@latentexistence I think she may have written that to fit the narrative of Crush's song or maybe she wrote that line with the thought that in the story/narrative of the song, the boy in the song says to the girl, "No matter what you do girl". As she has said in their previous interview with Zach Sang, sometimes they write about their own experiences, and sometimes they also write a song or a verse to fit the narrative of the song because writing from their own experiences also has a limit (like her song Absence, it was inspired by a k-drama)...but who knows, just wanted to share my thoughts
In My Room is so angsty and heartbreaking in only a way Moonbyul can write. (She’s known for her angsty/sentimental lyrics and fancafe messages) It’s about being in love with someone and not being able to tell them but seeing them happy because of someone else and the pain of that. The In My Room part is heartbreaking because she’s with that person hanging out but she sees them getting texts and smiling at messages from another person and it hurts her that she can’t make them smile like the other person does but seeing them smile still makes her happy even if it’s someone else who causes that happiness There’s actually footage floating around out there of Moonbyul writing one of the verses live. She’s so talented it’s really unreal sometimes
Flashbacks to when Solar was on WGM with Eric Nam... Okay, I'm not a serious shipper, but circumstances like these really give something for the MoonSun shippers to think about. And Moonbyul and Solar seem to enjoy feeding the shippers. I feel like it's all in good fun, as long as no one takes it too seriously. But, of course we would support it if it were true, too. But as much fun as it is to think about, it's never a good idea to date within a group anyway, haha.

I think a ton of people cried on first listen to Absence. Moonbyul is a genius writer. And thank you for noticing Moonbyul is more than a rapper. Some moos like to keep her in that limited bubble but she can do so much more. Please react to Selfish too. It is a fun song and her first solo album song

I often didnt like Mamamoo reactions because i felt like people always just saw hwasa (maybe solar too) and how good they are. Look at the difference between the views of "Absence" and "Maria". As you said Moonbyul was just the rapper and wheein was often completly looked over. So i love that you take the time too check out other songs and see that they are great on their own. Byul deservs so much more views and love ❤️
Yesss I love Absence so much! Moonbyul is our angst queen lyricist, most credited female artist in K-Pop's 3rd generation. And 4th in Korean female artists overall. (Soon to overtake into top 3) She does not get enough credit for this. What a poet, honestly. I love her so much 😭❤️
Moonbyul is an amazing artist let alone her incredible rapping skills and vocals her writing skills is insane she doesn’t have 66 korean credits for nothing she wrote and composed so many songs for mamamoo she have Japanese credits too .. This is just another example of Mamamoo being one of the deepest rabbit holes in kpop and, despite their success, being one of the best kept secrets in contemporary music. Absence was a mere blip on the musical radar and only flashed for a second on far edges of the Korean music charts. It shared the fate of being ignored like the many Mamamoo's b-sides most artists would have been proud to have released as title tracks. After you finish their MVs and start getting into album listens I think you'll find at least a dozen songs that have a similar impact as Absence. RBW deserves credit for assembling Mamamoo and giving them the creative freedom to develop as artists and release songs like Absence but they have either been unable or unwilling to promote their talent and the many extraordinary songs they've recorded over the years to the extent they deserve.
I like the fact that Moonbyul writes her songs so that EVERYONE relate to it, like.. It’s not “gendered”, if you see what I mean? She is a talented lyricist in my eyes (there’s a reason she is one of the most credited kpop female idol after all). Thank you for allowing me to dig myself deeper into the Byulyi hole I was already in.
Moonbyul is my bias for a reason and that's like.... This. I mean, yes, I have a huge crush on her because she's beautiful, but I also kinda love her a lot because of the talented queen she is. Even though I have not experienced a "break up with my s/o" kind of heart break, I feel deeply her writing, Moonbyul's music makes me feel all the emotions she conveys through her songs as if they were mine and that's just amazing. I just want her to get all the love and recognition she deserves as an artist!

I knew u would like Absence very much! That's currently my most fav song of Moonbyul and it really captured my heart when I first saw the vid. It didn't have eng sub at that time (they just actually added eng sub like 3 days ago! A perfect timing for reacting to this) but the way it was produced and how she interpreted this song with her dance, I felt really emotional and I immediately went to see the lyrics of it, this song made it even more special than before ♡

Park Woosang (who is the "feature" in In my room) worked on many of their songs (be group or solo) and he also directed/filmed some of their solo MVs like In my room, 25, Be calm and so on (if you see PWS in the video then it's him)
Moonbyul is one of the few female rappers that sing amazingly, and one of the few that give you the feels when she does sing, the talent is phenomenal.
Yasss! Absence is so underrated! Her voice sound incredible in it, the lyrics are touching...also the mv concept is so simple yet so hauntingly beautiful, it's the perfect combo. Hopefully she'll get more and more chances to show us her multiple facets.
It is fun to see the videos of In My Room being developed and how well Moonbyul and Park Woo Sang (producer/composer) worked together. It was especially funny when Moonbyul first sang part of the song and Park Woo Sang notes "Oh it sounds good" but that "this is in a male key, how could you sing that well?" One of my favorite tracks from Moonbyul is her cover of Sorry as her version of it has that same feel and suits her style of rapping and singing so well. It was the first time I heard her singing and realized what a talent she is.
Knew you'd love these songs. Glad you reacted on these, these two are my fave Moonbyul solos alongside "Snow" since it shows the color and the emotions on her voice beautifully. We love singing Moonbyul so much and your great reaction too, as always.
My English is not very good but I will tell you that some time ago the other members of mamamoo said that Moonbyul had a lot of potential with her voice and her register, only that she did not have much confidence in her singing. That is why she has trained a lot to gain confidence. She and the other members of mamamoo are artists.
Moonbyul is such a great artist. And yes, she loves her angst. It helps that the producer of both these songs (Park Woosang) is the same way. Put them together and you got a recipe for heartbreak
there isn't a perfomance for it but mirror is probably my favorite song that she has ever written. spoiler: it's extremely sad but also very relatable.

"in my room" is such an emo bop. also, that male voice isn't really a featured artist, it's park woosang, the producer that worked on the song (and a lot of other mamamoo songs). he also directed the mv. it was the second mv he did, after hwasa's "be calm". then he also did the short one-shot for the acoustic version of wheein's "easy" and then later her song "25". he took up videography as a hobby, hwasa found out and begged him to make an mv for her song, then moonbyul did, then wheein joined in for hers... hopefully one day we'll get a solar one to complete the set "absence" was written about characters in a drama she was watching, about getting back into a relationship with someone who cheated on you but never being sure if they're continuing to cheat or not. crazy that she can put so much emotion into it based on that. also, the song was choreographed by kasper, the guy who choreographed "eclipse". so he's now choreographed two songs for female artists... both of them for byul editing to add: oh yeah, byul does feel like she'd be the one most likely to be scribbling lyrics in a notebook in the middle of the night like that. well, wheein too, but for a different reason or in a different way, if that makes sense... (we haven't gotten many songs wheein has written yet, sadly. their ceo says he's got a bunch of them waiting to be released at the proper time. hoping the time for some of them is her upcoming solo album). oh...and hwasa would probably be writing then as well, but mostly because she's basically nocturnal
You’ll probably get to Iljido at some point, and since it doesn’t have subs, I just wanna say that although it sounds happy and quirky, the lyrics are a bit more sad than the song sounds. Some people think it’s talking about a slightly depressive state. The lyrics are kinda tricky, but that’s as expected from our emotional songwriter. A lot of people felt like they could relate to the song, and it’s actually Moonbyul’s favorite track on the album.

just a little more information: byulie is deemed as the most girl crush and boyish member but she is also the most sentimental. this is why she is excellent at writing angsty songs and raps because she knows how to capture the emotions well!!!

My favorite song by Moonbyul is Snow. I love how she can go from a song/mv/concept like Eclipse to one like Snow and still be amazing. Also her cover of Trying to say goodbye is beautiful
Thank you so much for your reaction! I especially love what you said about her songwriting. It's always so poetic, sentimental and relatable. She's also really good at wordplay whenever she's going for a more fun and dynamic rap. I feel like ppl don't hype her writing enough. Even in the fandom most just get stuck at the fact that she's the highest credited female idol from her gen (2nd overall), but don't really appreciate how good she actually is at writing. I don't even think she realizes herself how good it is. Even their CEO once said that he was expecting less in terms of writing from her compared to the other girls. Moon is my bias but I think my favourite solos have to go to Wheein (though Wheein is also constantly coming for that little fraction advantage that Moon has over the other girls in my heart. Her bias wrecking skills are no joke). Easy just never gets out of my head.
It's hard being a fan to choose haha Wheein's solo work is my favorite because I'm a sucker for ballads and I think she delivers them the best out of the 4 (Anymore was just incredible) Moonbyul would have my second favorite though!
The man singing in In My Room is the producer, I believe. There was a video of the behind the scenes of this and I think the producer didn't want to do that part at first but Moonbyul insisted.
Will you be doing full album reviews in the future? MMM has some great B-sides as a group or even as solo acts (Moonbyul's Dark Side of the Moon and Hwasa's María are top notch, I bet Wheein's/Solar's albums would be just as high quality if they ever release one)
wheein has a solo album slated to come next after "travel" (rumor has it that it'll be early 2021). so we've got that one coming, at least. and i seriously hope we get an album from solar, too, and not just because i want her to finally officially release "big booty" and "empty" (i also think the latter would be perfect for the pws-directed solar mv i've been craving to make a full set)

In my room its a super underrated bop, some parts of the instrumentals reminds me to Easy, i assume that the composers/producers are the same, amd i love it.
