Nurture is a massive grower album btw. I remember on my first listen, I enjoyed it but I wasn't super crazy on it. It ended up growing on me massively overtime and now it's my all time favourite album. Even the songs I initially kind of disliked ended up being some of my favourites Also reaction suggestion if you haven't heard it already, Madeon - Good Faith is an amazing album. There's also his previous album Adventure, and Porters previous album Worlds. But those are definitely a bit dated being made in 2014, though they stand out in that era a lot.

Porter is a 2010s EDM legend!! (he co-produced Clarity with Zedd) I really really recommend listening to his 2014 debut album Worlds (go into it with the expectation that it will sound slightly outdated as it is from 2014, especially compared to Nurture). This album was huge and influenced a lot of EDM to come. Also the story of Nurture is that after the huge success of Worlds he struggled for years and years to make something he felt lived up to the expectations he felt his fans had for his music and went through a lot of struggle and depression because of it. Nurture is the story of him overcoming that and learning that if he makes music for himself his fans will love it (this makes most of the album especially the last verse of Trying to Feel Alive hit that much harder.

The "female" vocals are an effect. I love them. They contrast so well with his less processed voice.

This is such a fun watch, I'm glad you liked it! If you need another suggestion, Porter Robinson's previous album, Worlds, is also really great and I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. :-)

It feels nostalgic to that 2010s because this is the guy who was at the forefront that synth pop future bass sound from worlds in 2014

There is a bonus song on the Japanese version of the album worth checking out too! I think one of Porters big draws is in his lyrics and meaning behind songs which I didn’t hear you mention. I love seeing people show mother to their parents it makes them cry for example. You should check out Worlds for sure and if you haven’t already try Good Faith by madeon too!

Really enjoyed your thorough review and subbed, keep up the great work! I've been a fan of Porter since his Worlds album, which was really influential to my own music and got me experimenting with telling stories through my albums. Looking back, Worlds wasn't quite as groundbreaking as what he's doing now, though the threads were definitely there. Nurture is different at first, but I feel much like its concepts and sounds, it grows fast and springs up around you like a dense forest. I hadn't thought of it as early 2010s pop influence, but I get what you're talking about. Some parts of it feel a bit like Clarity-era Zedd (a song Porter actually did background vocals on), so that would make sense. I love all his work in general though, his lyrics focus a lot on mental health and empathy these days, and the sound feels so fresh but also nostalgic and familiar.

im guessing you'll react to Worlds next based off of all the people recommending it. I think if you go into it with the mindset that it was released in 2014, it'll be more impressive. the album really did shift the electronic scene a lot. people trying to imitate his vibe, EDM becoming more melodic and 'nostalgic', people focusing more on composition and arrangement. honestly even outside of electronic music, i believe the album shaped a lot of producers tastes. it was super unique for its time also i'd recommend listening to 'Shelter' alongside the album as it fits into the Worlds era.

okay, thanks for the info about the album! i have a few reactions and videos planned first but the worlds reaction should be out in the next couple weeks for sure.

Easily one of my favorite albums of all time! This was a real game-changer for me. Brought me back into the world of EDM after a 10 year hiatus and I haven't looked back since.

Tysm for giving this album a listen! I dont think he had any female vocals in his tracks, its all his own pitched up

Yeah, I assumed it was some sort of pitch-shift but I've never heard it done the way it was on this album, really liked it.

Love the reaction. Big fan (somewhat fanboyish) of porter Robinson’s discography and how both albums, worlds and nurture, are basically emotional time capsules of the era. Would love to see a worlds album reaction as that “revolutionized” edm forever. Since at the time of worlds creation artists were chasing the David guetta, Calvin Harris, and post skrillex dubstep sound.

fun fact in something comforting at the end you can hear the switch of the effect versus his normal voice. he did this to emulate him having a conversation with himself and his conscious. reassuring himself that he would be able to finish that song and get through his writing block and depression of being unhappy with his work. it’s cool that he did that & was able to make something like that work.

Porter is not just a DJ Producer, he is also a life savior, his music saved a lots of people, including me, this album can guide you through the darkest times of your life. Just went to his Nurture world tour this year, almost everybody's crying when he started to sing "Look At The Sky", we're lucky to be still be alive, and living on this beautiful planet, btw! hope you'll like his old album at 2014 called "Worlds", will be great if you can make another reaction video of that album 💙 it's totally different compared to this album.

Look at the sky and musician really took me to a whole another dimension where its just peaceful. Especially so for musician, its like porter is telling us a story about his journey to become who he is today. Anotherr musician i would recommend would also be Joji, highly recommend Ballads 1 and Nectar too! Love the reaction and have a blessed one ❤

Nurture really grows on you, I liked it from the jump though, I just think Porter Robinson is making music like no one else in the industry and really achieves something special with what he can evoke from those listening.
