There’s not a chance an entire league will start up in a few months. It just won’t happen. There’s no chance they could properly organize every team, coach, player, jerseys, travel, scheduling. They likely couldn’t even find enough available ice in time. These venues need to be booked well in advance.
@@MikeBartner yeah it's not his finest moment. Felt like UrinatingTree's sponsorship with Established Titles (although credit to both for recognizing the issue as soon as they caught wind of shadiness)
@leifopstad2972 I mean, I always thought it was a gag gift. If you're dumb enough to buy a square yard of land on Scotland so people can call you Lord, you're kind of a dork anyway.
If this is real, NHL needs to take it seriously. Everyone in golf laughed off LIV at first but money talks and plenty of hockey players will take more money over a faint chance at the Cup. Look at how many pro soccer players jumped to the Saudi league and the absurd wages they’re getting. Sounds like they haven’t worked out arenas yet so I’m not getting my hopes up. But if they get their shit together this could disrupt the NHL, especially around the draft
As someone who doesn't know much about this, could someone tell me what would be the incentive for Saudi Arabians to create an unprofitable sports league in North America? I don't understand why they would do that
I think the top candidate to go to this league is Alex Galchenyuk. Basically not allowed in the NHL anymore and maybe wouldn't want to keep playing in Russia since its so far away. Also his personality issues while controversial could bring attention to the league.
Sounds fake, or really dumb. I'm not driving 30 minutes each way and pay for parking so I can watch a 40 minute 3 on 3 game with players I don't care about.
Steve Dangle has since deleted said video and put out a tweet saying he received several concerning reports. Whether that means the league is still a go idk but he’s distancing himself from it it appears.
the moment saudi arabia was mentioned...i just about lost all interest should have a league w/ a smaller rink and have it be 2v2 w/ a goalie like one of the best hockey games ever made...NHL open ice
I'm sure if it isn't funded by Saudi's it'll be funded by jerseys littered with advertisements. Cool option for echl players to make some good money though. not sure why any AHL or NHL player would want to partake
I just dont want the talent to be watered down between two leagues. The pool of high-end hockey talent is not as deep as other sports due to the high costs associated with the sport. Most kids cant afford to play competitive hockey.
