She is the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina wrote and her Grandmother illustrated a book about why she sings barefoot. She was on a trip to Iran where her grandmother is from and met a street girl weighing people for money. Angelina sat and talked with the girl. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, a doctor but that it could never happen. Angelina told her to never give up hope. The girl complimented Angelina on her shoes and Angelina noticed her scarred bare feet so she gave them to her, and the little girl told Angelina she would pray for her every day. Angelina sings barefoot to this day to remind herself (and the world) that there are still children in need. All book proceeds go to charity.

Is my favorite artist, and I consider her the greatest vocalist of all time. You should definitely listen to her sing “Shield,” as well as “Fly Me To the Moon” that she sung while rehearsing with an orchestra, and her original song, “Million Miles,” that she wrote about her grandfather who had passed away. She is a sensational singer, a gorgeous young woman and a remarkable person in general. If you haven’t already, you are about to fall in love with her. I lost my daughter to suicide a few years ago. I instantly went numb and could no longer feel happiness. I lost all motivation in life. Angelina makes me feel things I haven’t felt in a long time. Madam, Angelina is practicing her art and craft since age 3 to 4 years old, weekly for 36 hours!!!!! At 9 years she was on a professional level. At age 10, so a respected vocal teacher said, she could have given master classes in singing. At age 11 in her home country a seasoned conductor of a respected military band asked her for musical advise!!! AT AGE 11. Today musicians around the globe call her affectionally THE BOSS. The barefoot princess/the girl with 1000 voices is absolutely a musical genius. History, she won. Norway’s got talent at the age of eight. She is the youngest published author in Norway, she wrote a book about why she seems barefoot. That story in itself is a tearjerker and shows what kind of heart the barefoot princess has. English is not her first language. She speaks four languages. She plays for five instruments. She has always done her own arrangements to her covers. The rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody, that you saw, queen thought it was so great that they reached out to the barefoot princess, and told her it was the best rendition I’ve ever heard and released the copyrights to her. Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on RU-vid. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. She's basically been a star since she was 7 years old. First and foremost, she is a jazz singer but has the ability to sing any genre. She also does all of her own musical arrangements. Her early influences are Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, and Etta James to name a few. Her love of jazz came from her grandmother playing jazz music around her when she was young. In 2014, she entered at age 7 and won Norway's Got Talent at the age of 8. With her new found fame, she used it to appear on many shows from abroad and help raise millions for the less fortunate children around the world. At age 13, she was invited to participate on America's Got Talent: The Champions in 2020. She shocked the audience and the judges with her rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. She received a standing ovation from all and got the Golden Buzzer from judge Heidi Klum to go straight to the Finals. Her performance went viral and even the group Queen responded on Twitter by saying, " Wow, what a rendition!" Our Barefoot Princess has a story and she published a book at 8 years old about why she don't wear shoes performing ,, at 6 while traveling in the middle east she met a poor girl on the street that didn't have shoes and ( you can read the story) AJ gave her shoes to the poor girl and told the girl when she became a superstar she would never wear shoes performing until every child in the world had shoes,, she is now 17 and still performs Barefoot,, and has helped raise millions for children's charity's as well as giving most or all of her winnings from the NGT2014 show ,, which I think was A LOT of money to help children, and she was part of a large concert where 40million was raised for children, she did those concerts for free and she was 8 years old.

At 9 Angelina was already a veteran. She entered Norways Got Talent at age 7 and won having turned 8 by show’s end. She was only 9 years old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, an American singer/songwriter. He wrote and performed it in 1956 and Angelina based her performance on the original, although she did make some subtle alterations to both lyrics and melody. As you continue your journey of discovering Angelina, you will come to realise that she does her own arrangements of most of the cover songs she sings. The differences may not be immediately discernible on first listening to them, but they are there. There may be a subtle change in tempo or tone, or more inflexion on some words, or a phrase may differ in pitch from the original. My thoughts on this performance. I love this performance so much. As they say AJ don't play. We get the most stunning, amazing performance of a 9 yr old of this Jazz standard ever created. I believe it is going to go down in Jazz & Music history as the best ever for this age and in my opinion the best rendition of this song ever created Screamin Jay included. It will be revisited for Decades and will remain relevant for Generations to come. You will need to go back to 1956 and hear the original singer, the original Shock rocker Screamimg Jay Hawkins and what he did to under stand what Angelina studied to arrange and rewrite the lyrics ,, she also hand wrote her "wishes" for the band to follow, all at the age of 9 years and 2 month old

This was her full-time band hired after she won Norway's Got Talent at age 8 in 2014. At this point she had been working with this band for about a year. She has always arranged her own music. This song is an example as she is discussing the scores with her band leader before the recording. She started singing at age 1 1/2. Her Grandma and she listened to jazz greats which had a huge influence on her. Her first trips to the recording studio began when she was six. She has over 200 covers on RU-vid and all of them are amazing. They all become hers! There has never been another with the combination of talents of Angelina. I believe she is the greatest female vocalist to ever live and has been since she was only 10. She is our barefoot Princess of a thousand voices, the Queen of Jazz. A gift to us all. She is contracted to Republic Records now for about 2 1/2 years but not promoted by the request of her family to allow her to mature in order to withstand the stress of the modern music business. She graduates from high school this month and is about to release an album of all Angelina original songs. We fans (called Angels by Angelina) believe this is the time the promotion will begin. She is 17 and 6'1" tall. English is her third language of 4. She plays several instruments. She is incomparable. Many want to compare her but she is the best ever, no comparison! You have stumbled onto a lifelong influence on your attitude and the way you perceive music. She is an old soul in a young body. Her emotional conveyance is a mystery, almost magical. this is actually HER arrangement and the notes at the beginning were her making changes to the arrangement. Also, there is a back story as to being barefoot....she came across a girl with no shoes, and she gave her the shoes she was wearing...and will not wear shoes until all children have shoes.

Thank you for your first reaction to Angelina, I hope you will do many more reactions to her, as she is well worth every nanosecond you spend on her. I have watched and listened to her in awe since she released her first video on RU-vid, and what has been evident to me from the start is that she sings with total conviction, despite the fact that she is far too young to have experienced the events suggested in the lyrics of the song she has chosen to sing. But it is not only that, for strange as it may seem is the even more remarkable fact that she can convey the appropriate emotions within those lyrics to her listener. Angelina was 9 years and 2 months old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956 (50 years before Angelina was born). She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original. There are many things I found particularly worthy of note in this video. Some I recognised immediately and those I missed were brought to my attention by the more observant Angelina fans (her Angels) and I thank them for letting me know what I had missed. Another Angelina "Angel" has pointed out something else which I had missed, and it is added at (l) below, (a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled. (b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers. (c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it. (d) The smile on the face of the Bass player. (e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine" (f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand. Possibly to remind herself of the last minute changes she wanted. (g) Her unwavering passion throughout the performance. Evidenced by her facial expressions and the way she uses her hands and body to emphasise the direction of the song. (h) The way she takes a breath just before she starts the last phrase (I don't care.....) and that breath lasts the whole of that sustained note. A child of that age should not have the ability to hold a note for that length of time. (i) At the end, when she sings I Doooont Caaaaare, she employs TWO separate and distinct vibratos to the word care, a wide one to start the word and a tighter one to close the word (j) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody. (k) Perhaps the most remarkable is that despite her tender years, she sings with such total conviction that her authenticity is never in doubt. It is easy to believe that she has experienced the events described in the lyrics. It is not only her voice that is mesmerising, it is also her facial expressions, and the way she uses her hands and body. Her stage presence is electrifying. (l) The performance absolutely is powerful and raw but to me, I am amazed that this is balanced by the profound beauty of the ending phrase; the last twelve words of the song. AND… they are essentially sung a cappella! Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

AJ was found singing a Whitney Houston song in her crib, age 18 months. She was given a mic and briefly recorded, in tune but the words, in English, were a bit mumbled, she is a native Norwegian after all. She has not stopped singing since. She competed in, and won, Norway's Got Talent (age 7 - 8) singing songs she selected, arranged and interpreted. Here, a year later, we can see what she can really do as she plants the flag for all in the music industry to see, a challenge that will stand for the ages.
