This song is already great on Pink Floyd's original concept. Nightwish got an already almost perfect song and made something different and still better in so many ways, without losing the original purpose and feeling of the song. Only masters can pull this off, people like Tuomas and his crew.

I think it was Toumas that describes this as a Pink Floyd tribute.. Because your correct, Pink Floyd is a vibe.. Nightwish did not try to recreate the Pink Floyd sound which is why this works so well.. Pivk Floyd song, but a Nightwish sound..

There is a wonderful man on RU-vid, Guylain Prince OFM, who is a friar, a Franciscan friar who loves metal, rock and prog. It creates great reactions, and even better analysis. And I think it was He who created the best term for Emppu - "tasteful virtuoso". I think that's the best word for Emppu I've ever heard - I totally agree!

I love Nightwish and this is a great cover. As you said that you don't know Pink Floyd so well, I'm going to give you a huge gift! React to Pink Floyd "Comfortably Numb" from the PULSE concert. Not only is one of their best live performances ever but in the end of the song you will listen to what is considered THE BEST GUITAR SOLO EVER!!!!

Thank you Tom for showing some love to Emppu. I know this is a Marko showcase (and I love the guy to pieces) but Emppu is as close to a David Gilmour feel as you can get. His solos are so close to the original feel that it is really scary...

Tuomas did a slight key change to make the song more somber and poignant, but other than that it was unchanged. This version was praised by David Gilmour. #TeamMarko You should check out the Hu. It's metal done with traditional Mongolian instruments and vocal styles.

If you want a look at Baby Marko, check out Tarot's first music video Wings of Darkness from 1986, when he was just 20. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VimogVM3i9Y.html (That's his brother Zachary on lead guitar.) Amazing as it seems, Marko wasn't actually born with that epic beard! He always had the vocals, though.

i think, i maybe wrong, but there had been a message a long time ago of one of Pink Floyd, who said that that was the best cover of their song they ever heard. but i can be wrong, but i wouldnt be surprised.

What you're feeling is all the emotion going down at that concert, the last one of the tour, where they handed Tarja the letter of dismissal in 2005. You hardly see Emppu smile during the concert, Tuomas nearly loses it at times, Jukka is suffering, and you can sense Marko's deep emotions. At the very end of the concert there are girls/women in the audience in tears. I chatted with a woman who had been there at that concert, and she said when she read the open letter - which was put up on the Web the next morning - she understood why she'd found the concert so emotionally overwhelming. If you have any empathy skills, even from the distance of the video, you know there's something going on. If you do any more numbers from that concert, you'll notice that all the band are in serious mode, but Tarja is blissfully unaware.

YES! Shows the talents of the guys and proves they were/are a force even without a female singer. Marko used to sing a lot of covers to give Tarja and Anette a rest during gigs.

Great reaction. As you didn't know Nightwish, you don't know Pink Floyd. Only Unother brick in the Wall like most people. Until i found Nightwish, there was no band that could come close to the perfection of a Pink Floyd live show. Do yourself and us a favor and do a reaction on them. You can start with Comfortably Numb live from the Pulse Concert. Sorrow from that same concert is also epic As you like Empu , you wil also like David Gilmour. His gitar work is pure emotion. Oh and please don't forget Song of myself from Wacken:) Thanks for the ride.

The movie you were thinking of is The Exorcist. Mike Oldfield is another extremely deep rabbit hole (I've got 28 of his albums) and you must do Pink Floyd at some point, they are mind-blowing live.

There is a special reason for the intensity of emotion, the guys are together, whilst Tarja is backstage. They are all watching each other, the camera caught the piercing look from Tuomas to Marco, Jukka is in more anguish than usual, Emppu is stoney-faced, no smiles here. Did you get a glimpse of the front row? It hit them hard.

You might want to hear Jarkko Ahola. Live versions of Temple of King, Stormbringer, Stairway to Heaven etc. Jarkko and Marco have been singing at the same band Northern Kings and they are both excellent singers. Jarkkos scale is higher than Marcos, so many of songs where they both sing, Marco clears the path and Jarkko nails the sign, so to say :)

Ahh YES YES when u said how u get so many feelings when u listen to Nightwish I couldn’t agree more, most of the time I dunno if I wanna laugh OR cry they’re just SOO freakin good it’s insane lol and tell me this performance didnt make u miss the shit outta Jukka too right, I mean of course I love Kai too, but still I’ll always have a bit of a soft spot for our amazing Jukka!! :)

Greetings from Finland & thanks for your honest reaction to a great Nightwish tribute to Pink Floyd. You may have been told already that Marko almost lost his singing voice in 1996 when the surgeon accidentally damaged a nerve in Marko's vocal chords. It took Marko a lot of hard work to be able to sing again, but he lost his clean falsetto for good. Also, during this performance he was so sick that Tarja's Argentinian husband Marcelo Cabuli asked Marko backstage how he managed to do the entire "End of an Era" show at Hartwall Arena in 2005.

I was/am a Pink Floyd fan and was never aware of this song until Nighwish did this cover. Listened to PF's original and I prefer Nightwish's version. Compliments to Tuomus and Marco.

Please check out this one: Ayreon - Age Of Shadows [Best Of Ayreon Live 2018] Marko is performing (without guitar, wearing a skirt!!) together with Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian), Floor is coming in also! The guy behind Ayreon is Arjen Lucassen. He likes to include guest singers in his projects. Other amazing live stuff: "Ayreon - The Day That The World Breaks Down - The Source (2017)" incl. Tommy Karevik (Kamelot), Floor Jansen, Hansi Kürsch, Simone Simons, etc. "Ayreon - Everybody Dies (Ayreon Universe)" incl Micheal Mills, Tommy Karevik, Hansi Kürsch, Maggy Luyton, Floor Jansen (and backing vocals by Floors sister Irene)

Marko was not a part of NW from the very birth of the band, he joined in a bit later, and he was front singer in hes old band Tarot, so basicly Marko started out as front singer, and was a front singer, with a diffrent role in NW then being the main vocal all the time. Well i write was, as he is no longer in the band, surely we are gonna miss Marko in NW, and who knows he might return again.. But with that said, Tuomas is also a master to get great music done with what he have to work with, and he proved that very clearly with the diffrent front singers NW did have to, so in a way its also a new challenge for him, that im sure he will bring something new (again)to the NW sound.. so even i do feel Marko is a great loss for the band, im also exited to see how Tuomas deal with this, and what he then bring to the table, cause i know he can do it!! Ohh and Empuu is the only one left now in NW that was with the band from the very birth, as well as Tuomas of cause..

Yes, you must react to While your lips are still red at Wembley Arena 2015 with your lovely wife. And have a box of hankies nearby. Also Comfortably Numb, Pulse 1994 at Earls Court but make sure you watch the full version, just under 10 minutes as there is a shorter one around. Whatever you do, do not pause during the 2nd guitar solo by David Gilmour, as noted by earlier comments this often considered the greatest ever live guitar solo.
