Yes. As the war progressed the Germans noticed the Penetration of a PAK 36 round had very little effect on enemy tanks so they invented the “Stielgranate 41“, an HE Grenade, which you could stick on the canons barrel (as shown in the scene). While I do agree that when you shoot someone and they die it's not realistic, it doesn't mean that when someone is shot and they don't move it doesn't mean they aren't injured(I know that probably sounded weird). Sometimes getting shot will knock someone out until they regain consciousness or they bleed out. However if they got enough adrenaline pumping through them they'll stay awake, but once all that adrenaline is gone they'll lose consciousness immediately. It all depends where you get shot. For example all the times in BoB someone getting shot in the throat they're wide awake covering their wounds. But like in this episode when that soldier tried to warn to Lipton and was shot in the chest fell down the others around went to grab him and called for a medic, they did that because they don't know if he is actually died or not. Sorry if this was long I just wanted explain that just because they look died doesn't mean they are.

tbh, Winters does acknowledge later in the episode that this was just a single company rear guard action and that it was too easy. @404Dannyboy
@404Dannyboy 2 года назад
@@Hdbdbdby So, a couple of things. First, if you thought this movie was saying the 101st won WW2 single handedly you are god awful at interpreting movies. Episodes after the Battle of the Bulge even have the repeating theme of how seemingly useless and unimportant their role felt. How you can say they exaggerate their later accomplishments when whole episodes, multiple episodes, are structured around the men dealing with fighting, or more often waiting around, in a war where their role now seems unimportant is so far beyond me that I don't have words to properly express how dumbfounded I am. Second, the size of the armed forces around you doesn't dictate how important your role is. While the Battle of the Bulge involved far more troops, you could also reason that it was a far more important operation than Market Garden largely due to its scale. Your argument here seems particularly myopic and uninformed. Third, it isn't just Market Garden that was dumbed down. Literally every engagement and operation was dumbed down. They had to compress about a year of activity of a pretty active company over the course of an enormous war while still giving characters arcs and portraying complex themes like good media does. You simply can't do all of this very well over the short amount of time you have with a miniseries, let alone the budgetary problems of doing so. Fourth, if you ever thought Easy company seemed too successful... it is because they were. Ambrose didn't set out to write his book, which the series is adapted from fyi, about some company that just got mowed over during the Battle of the Bulge or ripped to shreds during Normandy. He purposefully picked one of the most successful and active companies from within an already elite branch of the US military with an exceptional leader whose tactics are still studied at West Point. The reason E company in Band of Brothers seems so successful is because they were, by luck, by skill, by hardwork, by good leadership, by sacrifice, and probably by luck again they were successful and the power of hindsight let Ambrose pick a company that was so active and successful. They seem so important compared to many other companies because they were selected for that reason. Band of Brothers is a great war series and while it has its problems your criticisms aren't among them. This is particularly ironic given that you are watching a channel providing actual valid criticisms of the series. Is Band of Brothers perfect and 100% historically accurate? Of course not, no media ever is or can be. Is it one of the best attempts at historical accuracy while still maintaining the rules of good film storytelling like thematic expression, character development, and great cinematography? Of course it is. I still haven't seen any reasons to think you got your history from sources beyond youtube.

My father and uncle fought in Italy and Holland. The Germans would have their own positions accurately surveyed for artillery and mortar fire. When you assault and capture their position you have to immediately prepare for a mortar barrage ( a " stonk ", from the sound of the mortar tubes firing ) The ambush on the road was classic German tactics. They would open up with MGs to make you go to cover. Then hit you with mortar, grenades, and artillery if available. My father was in an assault rifle company, and he stated that they didn't take prisoners unless ordered to. To take yourself out of an assault to capture and guard a prisoner would result in a court-martial.

16:03 I think it should be mentioned that towards the end of the war, Germans were equipped with Pak 36s, but since they weren’t effective against American tanks at long range, they used them against infantry. The Germans developed a special multi-purpose round that could be used both against tanks and infantry, and we see it being used in this very scene. It’s called Stielgranate 41, and fun fact: it was distributed to Fallschirmjager units. Edit: I should also note that the use of Stielgranate 41 is also historically accurate as depicted in the scene. It had an extremely short effective range.

Speaking as a surgical assistant with time in Afghanistan that has seen my fare share of actual combat wounds and death, when it comes to rather or not someone dies instantly it really depends. Very few people who die from gunshots die ''instantly". Death from wounds that penetrate your body and organs cause death through a process called hemorrhaging. Essentially it's when so much blood has left your body not enough pressure exist to keep the heart pumping, lower the pump, lower the oxygen. All of this causes you to pass out. So most people dying from blood lost related injuries almost always pass out before they die. The difference is in the severity of the bleeding as to how long this will be. With that said it is possible to damage certain areas of the body that will cause you to die or atleast fall down immediately. Shot's to the head are one that can bring about death instantly, getting shot in the carotid artery can cause someone to pass out in seconds. What's more common however are shots to or through the spine. Often times when you see someone get shot and they instantly lock up and go completely doll physics limp are due to shots hitting the spine. It could be that someone shot you in the chest piercing your heart causing you to hemorrhage to death quickly and the bullet also penetrated your spine causing you to become limp. These are common gunshot injuries that cause this effect.

If you are saying that there wasn't any wounds there was some like when the dog company peeked and one of the guys got shot then he got moved back but most of the soldiers were shot be automatic guns like the MG42 and the MP40, the men didn't get shot once they got hit two or more times.

Somtimes the adrenaline can be so high and the supersonic bullet can be so fast, your brain somtimes isn't quick enough to notice what's happened. I've found, most of the time people just go completely limp like that, it's because they've been hit in the spine.

I always like to think that these movies/series are told from the perspective of the soldiers, as if they would tell it from their memory; so it makes sense for them to potray the enemy as stupid and evil while the own side is super efficient. Ye dunno, just a personal away to justify the hollywood bs :V. But compared to other war movies BoB does a very good job on the realism, imo. At least there are no "murican supersoldier yeeehaw" moments - just the common incompetent german Stormtroopers.

You seem to be really nit picking really really minor inaccuracies. You take everything from a logical approach as well. The combat scenes depicted here don’t always have to make sense and be 100% by the book. The filmmakers are doing their best at depicting combat and honor these men and combat is messy and people do things that may be illogical to you the viewer because their under extreme conditions. But most importantly this is a show so it’s never going to be completely accurate to begin with. Especially the part where Lipton is telling his guys to get out of the open. Two ways of looking at it could easily be the fault of the director who is having Lipton out in the open for no reason other than to nearly get blown up by the artillery for the sake of the story which is a stupid decision or it can be Lipton is too focused on giving orders to his men that he doesn’t realize that he himself is in the line of enemy fire which happens and makes some sense. We just don’t know and who cares anyways. It’s nothing major. This is merely an artists depiction of actual events. I can literally take any depiction of combat and analyze it to oblivion by saying this soldier should be doing this or why did this soldier do that? Why would a machine gunner expose himself? The Germans are like npc’s etc etc. Like Jesus dude we get it! There’s mistakes and it’s not perfect. Do you understand how difficult it is to make a film/show like this? I dare you to take a classic movie like the longest day or To hell and back and list all the inaccuracies and plot conveniences in those and how dumb the Germans are portrayed. These are made to entertain and give the viewer a general knowledge of what happened in the past. You can also do the same thing with real life combat footage as well and question why a soldier maybe standing out in the open of a fire fight. Not everything is textbook perfection. We’re human beings. We make stupid decisions.

As always, Spielberg looses it in the end. We have a promising beginning and realistic impressions before it turns into an indian shooter so that the audience can lean back and enjoy the long-awaited happy mass-shooting of dumb enemies to get a satisfying kill ratio. Same tendency as in "Saving private Ryan" with the happy grenade dodgeball scene near the end.

Every movie, documentary, series or whatever has it flaws. Band Of Brothers is no execptions. But in the end? If you really wanted a real authentic WW2 movie/serie? It would be way to long and most likly boring. You don't want to watch LT.Winters writing papers and planing ahead a operation or whatever. You want to see action and if it's realistic or not? Depends, since this is a WW2 serie. It don't really matter if it's 100% accurate because you could never be 100% accurate on such a thing like this.

Short war the Germans would win, long war the Americans would win. It’s like Germany against the Soviet Union, they lost to the soviets since it was a drawn out war, but the soviets got to hold on for so long instead of folding thanks to American ammunition, trucks and more. Without allied help things like Kursk would have been a German win and there would not have been a Soviet offensive.
