The tank shot during the bazooka scene doesn't kill the bazooka team it goes over there head and explodes the nearby trees holding the mortar team, they just made it appear in the scene like the two men with the bazooka got vaporized when in reality they were okay.

The hedgerows had been slowly built up since medieval times, and were long rows of rocks that had been plowed out of the fields over the centuries. The rocks, soil, and trees' roots made an excellent defense from gun and artillery fire.

Those "scouts" coming in were on observation posts ahead of the main defensive line. Op's as we called them when I was a soldier, serve as an early warning for ground attacks. It's doctrine for them to break contact and rejoin the main line when faced with a superior force, as well as deter enemy scouts before they can observe said main line.
@MRrealmadridRaul

If you look closely you can actually see the SS uniforms on the Panzergrenadiere! When the German guy got blown out of a tree by the Sherman you can also see a cufftitle of the 17 th SS ( Götz von Berlichingen ) on his uniform, which is the unit that fought with the 6th Fallschirmjäger regiment in the Bloody Gulch. Oh yeah and also the many SS uniforms and camouflage ofcourse

Another inaccuracy for this episode we can clearly see a Jagdpanther with the counter-attacking German forces, however the only Jagdpanthers in the area were in the German 654th Heavy Anti-tank Battalion and only saw combat in the late Battle of Normandy against British units.

The image at 10:46 shows a Sherman with a hedge cutter attachment. During the Normandy campaign in the American sector especially the hedgerows or “bocage” were so dense and German ambushes using them became such a problem that the US army developed makeshift hedge cutters mostly made out of recycled German beach defences to attach to the front of Shermans after Sgt. Curtis Culin came up with the idea and it made its way up to Bradley. The attachment dug up the hedges at their roots so tanks could plow right through them (for the most part anyway) giving infantry openings to follow through. Sometimes bits of hedge could even attach to the front of the tank and become a makeshift camouflage. The tanks with the hedge cutters became known as “Rhino tanks” due to the horns on their front.

Good video. There are people who believe all this happened 100 %. Sure most of the stuff is based on true events, however, it's a tv show, so there are some mistakes and minor detail faults, which isn't surprising. Also, German soldiers here are as your usual german hollywood bad guys, running like chickens, shooting from standing position and advancing with no tactics. It's true that not all the SS soldiers were super soldiers etc, but nobody can deny the fact that German paratroopers were battle hardened and experienced soldiers with tough requirements. It's just absurd to see 'em running on open and shooting like that.

There is only so much they can really do. They are limited by where they can film, how much they destroy/modify, and how many men they can get to fill the ranks. For the limitations they were working with I think they did really well. That field where the 101st destroyed the 88s earlier in the series is now active farm land. Only thing there to mark it is a monument.

I loved this show. But they way german advances are portrayed is laughable. Even in ww1 the german armies movement was well disciplined. Volley fire had long been abandoned, the german army utalised Fire and Movement well in the mobile stages of the war. Where is the Fire and movement here and the proper utilization of cover? It reminds me of the depiction of advances from the Battle of Mons until the Marne. There are sources that argue the germans failed to use such tactics and advanced en masse. This may be true of some inexperienced units but this is not a characteristic we would see across all units like we always do on film.

@maximilienfrobespierre7683 2 года назад
@@georgewashington132 The German policy of "living space" in Eastern Europe was directly inspired by the US extermination of american natives and the american "manifest destiny" policy. US settler colonialism was also the primary inspiration for other, earlier German settler colony projects like the German, West African genocide of tribal people. (The Herero and Nama Genocide.) The German Empire sent German intellectuals to the US with the explicit goal of learning from, and replicating that settler colonial example. The primary German settler colonial ideolog during that period was Freidrich Ratzel who had aquired his inspiration for colonial policy during his travels in the US and constantly referenced the US native policy when presenting his ideal west African colonialization process. "according to Ratzel the white settlement of North America was the best example for both why and how Germans should engage in policies of colonial expansion..." (From the frontier to German South-West Africa by Jens Uwe Guettlel page: 537) The Nazis where also havely inspired by Ratzel, Hausehofer, Turner and other similar 19th centuary German and American intellectuals who where themselfs inspired by the colonial example set by the United States. The very notion of "living space" came from Ratzel's work "Lebensraum: a Biogeogragraphical study" where he uses the US as his primary example for a successful settler colonial project where the natives have been all but eradicated and freed up living space and resources for the white settler colonial population. He built on the colonial notions both of contemporary American thinkers as well as historical ones. He did for example echo Jeffersons ideal of a native population giving way to a self sustaining, white, agrarian, (slave owning in Jeffersons case), yoemanry population. By the 1920s "Lebensraum" ideology was a widely accepted staple of German imperialist ideology. The nazis simply applied these colonial notions on Eastern Europe viewing Slavs and Jews in this region as an inferior native poplulation to be replaced, inslaved and exterminated. The Nazis used retoric lifted directly from the US colonial project to justify their expansion.

You are true to a point. Yet segregation didn't inspire Nazis, rather it was colonialism. Also I don't see how this comment pertains to the content, which is reviewing a historical battle portrayed though a show. Yes, it would be safe to say that the the Army was racist, and pro about it, but you also have to understand. That was the norm, to the point, it was law. Also I don't think the smiley face is appropriate for what you are saying, it's gives me a "... LOL" vibe.
